With his new found understanding, Qiv walks forward with a javelin drawn and head held high. Not skulking at the back. Not hiding. "Sanbalet! Do you recognise me? If not, you will. I am most likely the last person you'll see in this life." He lets that thought hang heavy in the air before continuing "If you have a deal to broker I would do so quickly, my temper runs thin". He plants the tip of his javelin squarely between his feet ready to throw on a heartbeat.
A mote of comprehension blooms on Seth's battle-crazed face as he pivots and lunges at Sanbalet instead.
With a word and a gesture, Sanbalet hurls three rays of fire at Seth. Ray #1: 11. Fire damage: 9 - Miss. Seth twists and dodges the fiery blast. Ray #2: 13. Fire damage: 7 - Miss. Seth's chainmail deflects the second ray. Ray #3: 22. Fire damage: 9 - Hit. Seth shrieks as the arcane flames envelop him for a moment. He's seriously injured, but still alive.
"We'll have NONE of THAT," Sanbalet admonishes Seth.
Qivys may exercise his readied action if he wants; otherwise Seth may go.
Seth takes a wild swing at Sanbalet with his longsword. Attack: 15. Slashing damage: 7 - Hit. He gives Sanbalet a nasty slash across his arm and shoulder.
Upon hearing the conflict Dwal will enter the room. Seeing the battle, Dwal will target Sanbalet. Dwal will spit in his hand, the spit appears to glow. Dwal will throw the glowing spittle at Sanbalet, casting Firebolt.
Seeing the situation falling apart, Peri will run up and hold his sword to the mage's belly. "If Sanbalet knows what is good for him, Sanbalet will allow Seth here to tie up Sanbalet's hands and come along peacefully." Intimidation15
Dwal's fiery spitball sears Sanbalet. He shrieks again in pain. "Stop it! Stop this right now!" he bellows. It's difficult to read his reaction to Peri, but Sanbalet definitely seems like he's getting nervous.
Farley freezes, unsure what to do.
Butter staggers in and fires a wild crossbow shot. Attack: 9. Piercing damage: 11 - Miss. It hits the back wall with a sharp crack.
Missy hesitates, debating her options before making a decision and speaking to Seth, trying to get through to him. "So I'm all for just getting rid of this guy and I'll follow your orders. But haven't we been cracking down on smuggling? If he knows something and is willing to talk, don't you want to hear what he has to say? How do you think the rest of the guard will react if you bring back valuable information and we can snuff it out once and for all?"
She will ready her own fire bolt if Seth indicates they're not going to hear him out.
"Not such an easy battle this time, is it mage?" Not waiting for an answer he continues "I've asked twice now. I won't be asking again. Perhaps we should just let the Guards take care of you. I could care less what they do with you."His threat empty, of course. Qiv DID care. He wanted to make Sanbalet suffer for what he'd done. With his new found enlightenment though, he knew that Sanbalet would suffer a fate worse than death if he was to betray the smuggling ring. With that he launches a javelin at the ground in front of the injured wizard.
Attack 8
"Next one won't miss"
(Don't know if a roll is needed as I'm not attacking him directly, but thought it might be used to see if the threat seems real)
"Yes, yes, you've got me." He puts his hands up halfheartedly and gives a forced smile, which looks unnatural on his shaved head. His green eyes twinkle in the torchlight, as his wounds begin to bleed through his robes. "Let's stop and talk."
But Seth won't stop. He seems determined to kill Sanbalet.
Longsword Attack: 16. Slashing damage: 7 - Hit. Seth's sword makes another nasty gash across Sanbalet's chest. He's quite seriously injured at this point.
"Somebody stop this lunatic right now!" shrieks Sanbalet again.
Farley gawks at this spectacle with his arms dangling at his side.
Baffled by the assorted reactions by the companions. Some want to kill the mage/smuggler. Some talk about avenging dead companions but, want to talk things over and some just stand around. Dwal will stop and see what transpires.
Suddenly a thought crosses Dwal's mind "This mage is an illusionist, it seems. Doesn't that make him prone to deceit?" he thinks to himself.
With that Dwal will take a, closer look at the scene.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Peri:
Peri also has no idea how to act. The magician was giving up. Even if it had been a ruse, Peri's sword was pressed to the man's belly and surely the others had their weapons trained on him as well. Seth seems to be overcome with some unreasoning fury, attacking a defenseless prisoner. But he's the leader of the band of Town Guard here, so Peri can't just knock the man out.
He lowers his sword and pushes between the two men, turning his back on the wizard so he can face Seth. "Hold, man! Stay your sword! You've got your man, now take him back to Farbern and claim your reward!"
(I don't know if I need it, but if I do here's my Persuasion: 10)
Peri's words (maybe "reward"?) seem like they might be piercing Seth's battle mania, as he looks at him and pauses briefly.
Butter takes another drunken potshot from across the room.
Heavy Crossbow Attack: 18. Piercing damage: 11 - Hit. With yet another extremely lucky shot, Butter's bolt strikes Sanbalet square through the eye. He's dead.
"Hoo-rah" slurs Butter, flatly.
The dragon fades away. Dwal's investigates the scene, but comes to no new conclusions; there seem to be no other illusions here.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Peri:
Peri flinches as the bolt whooshes over his head. He turns in time to watch the wizard crumple to the ground. Hearing Butter's "Hoo-rah" he whips around, half raising the sword before catching himself. You are feeling frustration he tells himself. Frustration leads to rage, and then to destruction. Breathe. Accept where you are without dwelling on how you got here. Only when your mind is calm should you act. The tenets learned in the monastery keep him from lashing out, and he walks silently out of the cavern, focusing on his breath and relaxing his muscles one by one. Seeking a task to refocus his mind, he searches the bodies of the two attackers in the corridor ('Stache and the archer) for any useful items or clues. Investigation12
Neither Mustache nor the archer have anything on them other than their poorly-made weaponry. Peri notices something in the smoking remains of the hobgoblin, however – an unusually finely crafted set of scale mail that was undamaged in the conflagration. The scales look more like fish scales than traditional scaled armor. It is decorated with fish and shell motifs.
Seth turns to Peri as he begins to saw off Sanbalet's little finger. "You said there's a bounty on this guy? Easy money!"
Dwal finds that Sanbalet has a long, delicate, wooden pipe with a bowl made from a smooth river stone. He also has a set of masterfully crafted gaming dice, and an ordinary-looking iron key.
Stunned at the fact Sanbalet is dead, he turns to Butter "what have you done? We could have used him! Now all he's good for is fertiliser. What answers can we gain from fertiliser. You drunken oaf."Qiv storms over to the body of Sanbalet and kicks it. "Why'd you have to kill my friends. What did we do to deserve that. Look where it got you...."His rhetorical questions trail off as the memory of Kas and Omen come flooding back. He falls to his knees, the earlier strength provided by his vision now gone. The stalwart dwarf shaken by the whole experience.

(When Qivys is finally revealed to be the hobgoblin killer, I really want Sanbalet to say "I can't believe it's not Butter!"
(That's what I've been thinking too hahaha)
Missy
Missy watches Seth run in and rush at the dragon, half amused, half embarrassed for the guy.
"Seth... that's an illusion. Your sword isn't going to do anything."
Qivys
With his new found understanding, Qiv walks forward with a javelin drawn and head held high. Not skulking at the back. Not hiding. "Sanbalet! Do you recognise me? If not, you will. I am most likely the last person you'll see in this life." He lets that thought hang heavy in the air before continuing "If you have a deal to broker I would do so quickly, my temper runs thin". Qivys
Resisting the urge to impale Sanbalet, Qiv stands motionless for now. "Your deal mage?" He says questioningly.
Seth takes a wild swing at Sanbalet with his longsword. Attack: 15. Slashing damage: 7 - Hit. He gives Sanbalet a nasty slash across his arm and shoulder.
"Call that this cretin off!" shrieks Sanbalet.
Peri and Dwal may act next.
Dwal
Upon hearing the conflict Dwal will enter the room. Seeing the battle, Dwal will target Sanbalet. Dwal will spit in his hand, the spit appears to glow. Dwal will throw the glowing spittle at Sanbalet, casting Firebolt.
Hit: 11

Missy is up, then Qivys.

Missy hesitates, debating her options before making a decision and speaking to Seth, trying to get through to him. "So I'm all for just getting rid of this guy and I'll follow your orders. Peri and Dwal my act.
Dwal
Baffled by the assorted reactions by the companions. Some want to kill the mage/smuggler. Some talk about avenging dead companions but, want to talk things over and some just stand around. Dwal will stop and see what transpires.
Suddenly a thought crosses Dwal's mind "This mage is an illusionist, it seems. Doesn't that make him prone to deceit?" he thinks to himself.
With that Dwal will take a, closer look at the scene.

Dwal
Dwal will search the body of Sanbalet.
"There has to be some clue to all this madness. Some reason for all this." Dwal tells himself as he searches.
