Unless you have any further business, you bunk down for the night behind the Fog and Frog. In your fatigue, you are able to ignore the stained, funny-smelling blankets and old, half-scrubbed bloodstains on the floorboards, but the bugs are somewhat harder to ignore. You wake after a long rest to a humid, late-summer morning under overcast skies, with bug bites and itchy new rashes (but at least they're not blue.)
Getting cleaned up as much as possible, Gerrard sorts himself out and packs up, glad to be done with the bug-infested room. He heads to the common room for breakfast and orders food and hot beverage, quietly waiting for the others to arrive so they can make their plans for the day.

Before the group beds down, Boko casts conjure animals, manifesting 8 fey spiders. She directs them: "you will hunt and eat well tonight. Your job is pest control. Clear these rooms of insects, and prevent any others from bothering any of the people. Do not bother the people yourself."
There are some fuzzy blue, actually rather cute, tarantulas and jumping spiders that then spend an hour clearing the rooms of vermin and then guarding for the next hour, roving around outside if they run out of prey. She tries to sleep more comfortably than she has in some time.
She rejoins Gerard in the common room in the morning. "Will it just be us attempting this? Perhaps it should. I do not want to force the others into another difficult, dangerous endeavor. They have been through a lot. And while no one is excited about the idea of attempting this, least of all myself, it seems they wish to retire or change vocations. You have known them longer. What do you think?"
Peri wakes up irritable and itchy, and grateful for Boko's spider army making it better than it would have been otherwise. It occurs to him that just a few weeks ago he would have accepted the squalid conditions as a matter of course. His time as a (relatively) wealthy adventurer had... well maybe not softened him, exactly, given the number of nights they'd spent sleeping on cold, hard ground, out in the open. But it had led him to expect more from an inn when they were fortunate enough to find one.
He was in an introspective mood this morning, and not of the joyous variety. He'd steeled his resolve the previous evening to tell the group that he was thinking of leaving. It had been every bit as hard to say as he'd imagined. He'd left shipmates behind before, but this felt leagues different. And then that damned wayward bard had sent him a message, and now he supposed he was obligated to go find the fool. Well he wasn't obligated to be happy about it!
He gathers his gear and considers stripping the bedding, as was customary in certain decent rooms, but he suspects the bedding won't get washed anyway. He makes his way to the tavern room and finds Boko and Gerrard in an intense discussion. Too early for all that, he thinks grumpily, and finds a seat a bit away to order breakfast. He could go for a plate of eggs, ham, and toast, but suspects the breakfast of the day will be of the porridge variety.
”I grew up in comparative luxury and dreamed of a life of adventure and meaning beyond dedicating beet fields and playing at swordsmanship. I have come to see my growing capabilities as a responsibility to help those who would otherwise suffer, especially since the noble citizenry I belong to seems to have little empathy or desire to help the common folk,” answers Gerrard.
”But there are other folk with other dreams and motivations—who’s to say which is better? Master Fenwader wants to Captain his own boat, and now he has the means if not a full crew. I don’t begrudge him the opportunity to chase his dreams and avoid the nightmares set before us, though I would keenly feel his loss if he were to go a different route now,” he continues.
”Mayhaps I will someday understand dwarves, but Master Qivys and Brother Fiercehammer both seem to approach problems very differently than I do. I have learned caution and preparation from both of them, yet I get the sense that throwing ourselves between the people and the oncoming death beneath the waves makes less sense to them unless we are expecting to be well-compensated, defending family and clan, or both. Truly, it does take some level of recklessness to even contemplate taking up this life. Still, Master Qivys is not one to shirk from a fight if needs be—but I don’t feel right trading on our friendship to get him to do something he doesn’t want to do, so I hope we can come to an understanding,” he adds.
”As far as Master Thwack goes, you have known him as long as I, Mistress Alcor, and I get the sense that he is quite capable and just wants a place to belong. If the group splits, I have no idea which way he will go, but I am sure he will be upset,” finishes Gerrard.

Qivys wakes, washes up a bit, and then collects his gear. He heads down to find the others.
Qivys will just nod to Peri as the halfling comes out of his room and heads downstairs. Walking in on Boko and Gerrard in conversation Qivys scratches his beard and face for a moment then walks up to them and slams the glaive on the ground. "Talkin' and makin' decisions without tha rest of us eh?" he says. "I told ya before I was goin' if Boko was goin' but not until we have some sort of plan ta face these things. I don't fancy dying again." he finishes the last part gruffly. Qivys watches Boko and Gerrard for a moment. "So, you got some plan instead of rushin' in ta play tha hero fer folks that offer ya nothin' fer puttin yer neck on tha line?"
Unaccustomed to fancy accommodation Thwack uncurls himself from under the bed in his room. He gives a quick dog-like scratch before stretching. He looks around the plain room. "Long way from swamp" he says to himself out loud. Quickly grabbing his meagre possessions he scampers down to the common room hoping the others hadn't left him.
Thwack is overjoyed to see everyone still there, although not all together. He waves at the trio but heads towards the isolated halfling. "Hello Peri. Where we go today? Saltbush? Or other fantastical place?" His exuberance contagious, but perhaps not so to his sombre friend. It doesn't occur to him that this was the first time he'd got the monks name correct.
Boko turns to take in Qivys' arrival and gauntlet throwing. She blinks slowly, calmly. "No planning. Yet. I was asking Gerrard if it was fair to expect you and anyone else to attempt this, given all you have been through. We have been through. It does seem reckless. The only reason I am leaning toward taking a look is what might happen if we do not. As for the plan, I am open to ideas. I was going to just go scout it out in an inconspicuous form after arriving with this town's small flotilla. Then, depending on what I found, I could open a whirlpool on top of the wreck to occupy or take out enough of the undead and whatever else might be inside. Or I could find little there and depart. Or I could find too much to handle, and leave with a report for some entity more capable. I am as always, more than open to ideas. Most would be better than mine."
"Don't sell yourself short, Mistress Alcor. Your ideas have merit. My only addition is that I would be willing and able to accompany you as long as I won't slow you down. With my Mariner's Armor and your Water Breathing spell, I should be able to tag along unless you are going very quickly...or decide to create a massive whirlpool," responds Gerrard, "I especially like the contingencies based on the power of the threat we find."
"What do you think, Master Qivys?" adds the young noble, ignoring the dwarf's gruff tone.

"I got more questions than answers," Qivys says while stroking his beard. "If'n I was back in tha Army I'd have more troops ta move around and get things done but, it's just us an' I ain't sure tha halfling's heart is in it anymore." Qivys pauses. "An' I ain't sure about tha kobold either." Again the dwarf pauses and then says, "We got too many factors hanin' in tha darkness an' less than what's needed in resources. These folks believe tha Styes are more capable in handlin' things, Yes? Then tha first order of business would ta be ta go there an' see fer ourselves. Then access and make plans off of that." Qivys has a seat and seems to be deep in thought. he speaks again but doesn't look at anyone in particular. "Goin' off ta scout things out is fine but, makin' an attack without knowin' how big tha force ya face is an' not havin' a plan ain't wise. If'n tha Styes can offer ta help or even take care of it themselves, that would be a better option. It sounds like they got an army an' navy that can handle things." Qivys goes silent. He stares at nothing, lost in his own thoughts. Without moving his head he says. "Either way I'll be goin' with ya."
“I would not object to going to the Styes first. You are right, they may have more resources, information, and support. And they may have some compensation for doing this task, as we do not have much in the way of resources, and have seven lost months to account for. So should we go there first?” Boko says in response, after nodding thoughtfully to Gerrard and Qivys.
Breakfast is surprisingly good - fresh fruit, fresh bread, fried (if unidentifiable) meats. Sour breakfast beer (an acquired taste, evidently.)
Plenk is in a particularly foul mood, speaking in mostly one-word responses. The tavern seems to have no other guests. The weather is uncomfortably humid.
Finally, Plenk mumbles, "Boats ready in an hour. Where ye' goin'?"
Looking across the room at Peri and about to engage him in the conversation, Gerrard responds to Plenk instead, “We are bound for the Styes to take them out warning and plan about assault on the shipwreck. Who should we seek out when we get there to give the warning?”
Gerrard also looks for Janore, hoping the priest will accompany them to recite the details of the threat.

Listening to Gerrard, Qivys shakes his head a bit. "I think yer going about this all in tha wrong way," he suggests. "Yer noble born an' know all sorts of things from that world that most folks don't understand. Why not use that upbringing ta set tha tone fer yer entrance into tha Styes?" Qivys pauses a moment then begins: "I know ya had yer eyes open ta tha real world and it has hit ya harder than ya want ta admit but," Qivys pauses to let it sink into Gerrard's brain. "But, yer noble born and should start actin' as such. Take what ya have learned and let it shape how ya present yerself. Yer a noble and folks need ta understand it. So, when we get ta Styes, present yerself as an envoy. Once folks understand, they'll hop to an' break their own backsides tryin' ta please ya." Qivys takes a breath. "Once we get there, announcer yerself ta some head watchmen, then check inta tha best inn there an' wait," he says. "Have 'em come ta you. That will make a better impression than runnin' here an' there lookin' fer someone ta listen to ya. An' if'n they don't come, you don't make a move. Tha rest of us will do some leg work and get their attention. That way, when they realize what yer bringin' to them, they'll provide more aid than they would with you comin' in with a ragtag group claimin' tha sky is fallen."
"Not a bad approach, Master Qivys, I suppose I could summon up a bit of noble arrogance, assuming there is some local aristocracy to be suitably impressed," responds Gerrard, "But if I were to look at it from the perspective of the Styes rulers, I would wonder what hard evidence we have of this shipwreck being the source of the undead fought on Firewatch island, and what size of force might be needed to augment these adventurer's capability to eliminate the threat."
"Perhaps we should reconsider at least some cursory scouting on the way to know what kind of aid we should request once we get to the Styes," suggests the young noble.

At the mention of scouting first he shakes his head. "You can scout it out if that's what you want, but I'm headin' straight to the Styes to look for Kei. Besides, if they're like the Salmarsh Council they're not gonna do anything to help if you brought Orcus Himself back from the wreck. ”If I understand you right, Master Fenwader, you think getting the Styes leadership to help is unlikely. I merely propose that knowing some detail of what we are up against may help us know what to ask for and make them more likely to help,” responds Gerrard.
”However, if you have news of Master Kei and perhaps other allies willing to join us in the Styes and come fight the undead scourge, that would be welcome news indeed, and perhaps a reason to go straight there,” he adds hopefully.

Boko is fine with going to the Styes.
