Kei watches as Dory falls limp as Gerrard lands his final blow and the shadow hound dissipates. Dory is down, finally. He pauses for a split second before releasing the 3 dark energy blasts. "For freedom" he s******s as the blasts hit home.
((Retcon of the scene not necessarily his actions. The Hound disappears though as Dory is at 0 hp))
His hope of rehabilitating Mister Dory dashed, Gerrard lets out a small sigh and says, “I hope you made the right call, Master Kei. He did seem pretty far gone down the path to abomination.”
The young noble moves over to examine the equipment left behind, especially that rapier. He is irrationally pleased that Mister Dory collapsed into a pile of jelly like a sea monster, not reverting to his human form in death—as if that confirmed his true nature.

Kei
As Dory implodes Kei looks around as if expecting something to happen. All is still save for Gerrard moving through the office. As the noble searches what's left of their host, Kei does his best to look through the desk and its contents. "He was too far gone. I fear even his death won't stop what he's set in motion. We should see about the cult I guess but first I think we need to rest. No point taking on an entire cult in our state".
The ship is quiet except for the subtle sounds of water escaping from the bottom of the leaky hull.
Dory's rapier is finely made, if ordinary.
Examining the desk, Kei finds several crumpled sheets of soggy parchment covered in notes.
One, seemingly addressed to Mr. Dory, reads:
The catch again indicates a disturbance beneath us. We cannot locate the cause but fear THEY may be in the water near you. Praise Tharizdun! He rests and awaits! The Whisperer anticipates renewed Lantern Ghost harvests — the young one must be fed. This is how you will serve us. The harvest must increase, for the young one grows in both size and appetite. Find someone to resume the Lantern Ghost’s task, and bring the candidate to the temple, where we shall appraise its worth.
Other notes on the desk and the table are either horrid examples of disturbing erotica written with a shaky hand, or various letters that implicate Dory in foul crimes. Still more scraps of parchment contain scribbles and crude drawings of tentacled monsters. (You immediately notice a similarity to the drawings on the walls of Jarme’s cell.)
The mahogany box on the desk is unlocked. Within it is a velvet purse containing six rubies. The box also contains a tattered book with a florid spiral design.
Taking the rapier as a backup weapon and putting it into his bag of holding, Gerrard looks at a few of the papers and says, “There is more than enough here to implicate Mister Dory in the Lantern Murders as well as the darker evils of this cult. You were right to end his life, though I would have preferred he answered for his crimes with a public trial.”
”Let’s grab all this and check out that pit out back in case Mister Dory was lying. If that is clear, we should get these incriminating papers, then go to rest in your hidden shelter,” Gerrard suggests, adding, “And perhaps you can tell me if this Shortsword has any magical properties once we are in a quiet place.”

Satisfaction creeps across Kei's face as he reads the incriminating letter. "This indicates to me that Dory was not the head of the snake but perhaps that of a hydra. There seems to be at least one other that gives the orders. We should be careful of who we trust with this information. Thornwell. Yes, we should hand this over to Thornwell. Seeing she brought me back from....wherever it was, I'd say she's the best bet". He hands all the papers to Gerrard and grabs both the purse and the book.
Stepping into the pile of muck that once was Dory he begins to shuffle the slime around with his foot as if looking for something. "We should find something that can identify Dory. As proof we have disposed of him" he says. Then, quickly, as if he trying to qualify his statement. "You know, so she doesn't think we stole or forged the letters". He grabs any ring or pendant that may help identify Dory, cleans the much off with the sleeve of his shirt and places it in the purse with the rubies.
Kei responds to Gerrards idea of checking out the pit with "I don't think we should look so closely as to stir up what lies beneath. At least not without rest. Perhaps a cursory look is in order though. As for the shelter I've provided before I'm afraid that magic has left me. Ever since my time trapped in the Shadows, well, as you have witnessed, my magic has changed. Ordinary lodgings is all I could provide now. Maybe Thornwell would be able to offer secure accommodation for us."
”Thornwell made it clear we were not welcome again at her manor due to the trouble I brought her—though you were, ahem, not yourself at the time,” replies Gerrard, “A sealed package delivered securely by a third party would certainly be possible, or perhaps Constable Jute would be a good contact, as she has been trying to solve the Lantern murders and would be the official channel for law enforcement,” he adds, showing his signet ring and fishing out the block of wax he uses for just such a purpose.
”As to the pit, a cursory investigation, perhaps by our friendly air elemental here, would suffice. And for a place to stay, I was thinking the hidden flophouse from last night, not any magical spell,” he adds.

Upon close examination, Kei and Gerrard find nothing upon Mr. Dory in the way of his own signet ring, jewelry, clothing, or other immediately-identifying personal object, although his rapier is styled uniquely enough that it might be recognizable to those who know him well. (Or perhaps a lock of his very thin hair?) The other incriminating papers have his name written upon many, and he signed two of them himself. There's also the tattered book, which upon a closer look is handwritten in a combination of Abyssal and Infernal, both languages which Kei can read. Flipping through it, it seems to contain prayers to Tharizdun, There's also a folded scrap of parchment tucked inside the front cover.
Kei chuckles at Gerrards comment. "So you're happy to stay in a safe house these days? Looks like you're on your way to a brigands life My Leige " he jests. "I thought you meant to stay close to the pit. Ru's would be a much better choice, definitely safer." He hands the book to Gerrard once he's removed the slip of parchment. "Here, put this in your bag, who knows if it's magically tracked. If we intend to infiltrate the cult, it might come in handy. Its full of evil teachings and prayers". He unfolds the slip carefully and looks at its contents.
"Well, even given the mountain of evidence against him written in his own writing, we did just kill what was left of the most powerful councilor in the Styes," responds Gerrard with a wry smile. "I think keeping a low profile before we go after the cult tomorrow at sunset is best. Perhaps we just pay a runner to get this package of incriminating papers to Constable Jute? Also, if there is any magic that can shield our minds from the Whisperer or any substance to which a deep dweller may be vulnerable we can load into this shortsword, we should do that."
Gerrard calls to the elemental, "Mistress Alcor, can you check out the pit for us?" He gives one last look around and prepares to climb out of the boat, putting away his Wind Fan before he does so.

Boko, who has been trying to ventilate the ship and send out bad air to bring in the good, tries to catch up from the next room. She is happy to check out the pit (we’re talking the pit outside?)
(Yes, there is supposed to be a pit out behind the building. We haven’t been there yet. Gerrard is not sure if there are other warehouse areas yet unexplored too, but he is pretty beat up).

It reads, "This book contains all the invocations and prayers you’ll need to learn the truth, Mr. Dory. The dark god’s faithful are wary of new converts. But learn the words, and they should accept you soon enough. Seek their pulpit in the evening shadow of Frother’s Lamp. Praise Tharizdun!"
You have all witnessed the large swath of soft, deep mud known as Hemlock Pit, both from its shore as well as from above. The muddy flat is large – perhaps 300 feet across, fed by a handful of stinking canals and studded with a few industrial piers.
But now it is night – a black, stifling, humid night filled with noxious, stale, city air.
(Sorry, I though there was reference to a different pit)
”We should get moving soon, perhaps to the flop house, or perhaps to the priest we rescued upon arriving here—now that we know more, he might be able to help us prepare for the battle tomorrow,” suggests Gerrard as head heads out of the ship and along the gangway back towards the warehouse.

Kei is quick on the heels of his noble friend. Once over the rickety gangway and his concentration is no longer needed just to walk Kei speaks of the folded paper. "As suspected the book is like a manual for worshipping Tharizdun. It mentions that the cult gathers near Frothers Lamp of an evening. Perhaps we rest, gather more information and pay them a visit tomorrow."
”Agreed,” says Gerrard. “Let’s go to Refrum’s place. He is a priest of Procan who suspected cult activity behind the Lantern murders. Staying with him tonight might be best if we wish to learn more about the cult before we attack tomorrow evening.”
Heading inside, Gerrard looks for any rooms they may not have investigated as he goes by.

The party takes what they wish from Mr. Dory's office and makes their way out of the foul, suspended vessel, across the slippery, rotting walkway (steering clear of the small octopus still haunting it), past the crane, and down through the darkened warehouse. Everything is quiet.
(So you are headed to Refrum's cluttered home, not Ruothild's safehouse, correct? They are both in this district, neither very far.)
