Ghosts of Saltmarsh (cbaer8) - Campaign Thread

The dark wolf leaps and tears the throat out of the old woman. She goes down in a bloody heap on the stairs.

With one hand, the red-robed man conjures a ghostly blade out of the air which slashes at Bokowolf.
Ghostly blade vs Bokowolf: 7. Hit: 7 force damage.

With his other hand, the man in red pulls a radiant flame down upon the direwolf:
Boko must succeed on a DC11 Dexterity saving throw or take 1d8 radiant damage.

Scraggly-Beard takes another crack at Gerrard with his two-handed longsword swings:

The other scraggly-bearded guard rushes up to fill the hole left by his dead compatriot.

Dwal finds it strangely difficult to focus upon the yellow priest.

Dwal's Wisdom Roll: 13

Overcoming the odd resistance, Dwal blasts the yellow priest with a quintet of glowing darts. He shouts in slow alarm, his voice low and drawn out. Five serious wounds can be seen through his burned robes.

From behind the table, the stringy-haired acolyte pulls down another radiant flame upon Gerrard. (Make a DC12 Dexterity saving throw or take 6 radiant damage.)

"The Chained One shall feast!" screeches the old man as he races out from behind the table, his scimitar held high. (He ends the turn just behind the guards and in front of the yellow priest.)

Gerrard is up next!

Gerrard:

"Ha!  I told you they were cultists!" cries Gerrard.  "For the brave souls who fought the minions of Xolor in Saltmarsh!  We will avenge you!"

Gerrard launches into another series of attacks against the wounded guard in front of him, trying his hardest to break through the crunchy front line and sink his blades into the cultist leaders.  Tellingly, he is no longer striking nonlethally...

Gerrard scores a direct hit upon the guard in front of him, but it's not nearly enough to fell this tough old fighter.

"Beeegooone!" shouts the priest in a deep, drawn-out voice. He swings his spectral, floating mace again at Gerrard.

Peri is up next!

Peri:

"Ha!  I told you they were cultists!" cries Gerrard.  "For the brave souls who fought the minions of Xolor in Saltmarsh!  We will avenge you!"

Peri groans. Of course they won't retreat. "Lord Arvoreen protect us, be we heroes or fools!" he shouts, then rushes into the fray. He taps into his Ki to use the Step of the Wind technique and leaps over the edge of the stairwell, caroming off the far wall above Boko's wolf form, into a tumbling roll between the legs of the guard facing Gerrard. As he rises behind the guard he slashes the spear across the inside of the man's thigh in an attempt to hamstring him. 28 for 11

Boko wolf dex save: 12

Boko is no longer a wolf. She is an injured humanoid. And she is very, very, pissed off.

Peri drops the unconscious acolyte and vaults into the fray, slashing the scraggly-bearded guard on his hindquarters. The man yelps in pain and alarm, and the old man gasps in surprise at Peri's sudden appearance.

Boko and Kei are up next!

Kei 

The ghostly mace swings again at their leading man. "I've had about enough of you!" Kei shouts at the yellow robed priest. "Gerrard! Never forget why we're fighting these scum". His words filling the nobleman with gusto. He sees Gerrard's chest swell, filled with (Bardic) inspiration.

A quick flourish of his hand and a yellowish [Tooltip Not Found] flies towards the robed figure. "See if your spectral weapon can block this".

BA - Bardic inspiration to Gerrard (d8)

A - Attack: 7 Damage: 10

(Plus the rider for Arcane Bolt - 10ft pushback on STR save failure)

The yellow-robed priest squirms as Kei's translucent bolt narrowly misses him.

"Your time is done here!" intones the dour, yellow-robed man.

Boko is up next.

The dapper swordsman whispers something and makes a gesture toward Peri, but nothing seems to happen.

The red-robed man's ghostly blade swings toward Peri.
Ghostly blade vs Peri: 10. Hit: 4 force damage.

The man in red pulls down another radiant flame down, this time upon the halfling:
Peri must succeed on a DC11 Dexterity saving throw or take 6 radiant damage.
He then backs away, behind the other table.

As Gerrard mitigates the assault upon him, and Peri is deftly dodging arcane flames, Boko lands a pair of solid kicks upon the new guard; one in the knee, the other in the thigh. He stumbles, but then centers himself.

Dwal, at the top of the stairs, may act next.

Red Robed Guy - on the right, behind the other table - wielding a ghostly blade, pulling down sacred flames on party. Uninjured. Protected by a sparkly field?
Guard #2 - the scraggly-bearded guy on our left, opposite Gerrard - quite injured, has had some suspicious luck.
Guard #3 - the other scraggly-bearded guy on our right, opposite Boko. Dual blade wielder.
Stringy-haired acolyte - bottom left, next to the swordsman - also pulling down sacred flames on the party. Uninjured.
Old man - behind the guards, next to Peri - weild scimitar. Yells a lot. Uninjured.
Priest in yellow robes - next to Peri - wielding a spectral mace. The others seem to be protecting him. Hard to focus attacks on. Fairly wounded.
