Peri looks at Boko with surprise. Was that humor? "Oh sure, but when has that ever happened? Although, if we had a way of summoning that horror... Kei, you released it -- entirely on your own, with none of us involved -- do you have a way of callin' it?"
Pleased that Boko has the capability to allow him to breathe underwater, Gerrard says, “Truly, Mistress Boko, that is wonderful news! You are a marvel!”
”Other than seeing in the dark if the complex is unlit, we have the issue of the chill of the water for those of us not used to it. I would also be glad of a projectile weapon that is designed to function underwater,” comments Gerrard as they discuss logistics.
Turning to Oceanus, he asks, “And how does one effectively communicate underwater? With the ability to breathe underwater, can we speak intelligibly?”

Commander Clay appears on the stairwell. She slowly and carefully descends it, eyeing your group.
"Farbern wants to know what you need for weapons and supplies if you're doing this thing. I can fetch it for you, have it loaded on the keelboat in the morning."
”In addition to standard seagoing supplies, I expect we will need piercing weapons to work well underwater, both melee and ranged,” replies Gerrard to the Commander’s query. “Dim lighting that works underwater as well as some kind of protection from the chill of the water would also be good. We want to be stealthy, but we need to be able to see where we are going inside the tunnels and not freeze in the process,” he adds.
”What else, Captain Fenwader?” asks Gerrard, deferring to Peri in his area of speciality.

Peri nods in agreement. “Heavy crossbows for those that can use ‘em. And an underwater light would be good, but a way to see in the dark would be better. Maybe Brinehald or that wizard who lives in the big place can cast a spell on you, or we can borrow a magical whatzit. If you have some thin’ we can put in the water to knock a bunch of ‘‘em out, that’d be useful. Although I guess it’s best if we get out without ‘em ever knowin’ we were there. Anybody else?”
Boko pulls out her goggles of night. "These can be used by someone else if I am in octopus form and have blindsight. Cold resistance would be helpful, though it should not be a problem if we are quick. Though if we are forced to wait for a clear path to proceed unnoticed, quick may not be an option."
She turns to Oceanus. "Are we to handle the back door? What assets can you bring to this venture?"
Clay pulls out a small wooden tablet and begins to scratch notes into it as you speak, with an ancient stylus. "Six spears, six heavy crossbows. Poison. Insulated swim shirts. ...Ain't got magic. No magic lights," she responds.
Peri thinks about correcting Clay's count of spears and bows, but it'll just lead to endless discussion. Let her bring 'em all and we'll grab what we need. He waits for Clay to depart then pulls out the magic gloves. "Courtesy of Captain Xondros and the Quartermasters of Iuz. They're supposed to snag arrows out of the air. I don't need 'em -- fast hands already -- and Gerrard and Qivys use both hands to fight, so I guess that leaves Kei, Oceanus, and Boko who can use 'em. Unless you've got naturally fast hands too -- I've seen your moves, and some of 'em look familiar." The last addressed to Boko. "She donated a coupla potions too. Who wants 'em?"
"Nope." Qivys says. "I got my own ways. I will take a crossbow an' bolts. Better ta hunt with underwater than what I got with me now." Qivys takes a crossbow and bolts. He'll try and fit them in with his gear."
"Oh" Qivys says after a short pause. "Dwal gave this to ya." He hands Folding boat to Peri. 'Says he held on to it fer tha group. Said somethin' about "Now ya got yer boat" ta pass on to ya."
Unless you have further requests, Clay departs, retreating back upstairs to the meeting, promising to deliver the supplies to the waterfront by daybreak.
Oceanus turns to Boko to process her questions. "Back... door... handle?" Then he says a few more words, both in Elven and what you presume to be Aquan.
Still amused by the reaction of the council he pays little heed to Commander Clay. When Boko questions Oceanus and gets a cryptic answer in broken Common he translates her question into Elvish.
Oceanus nods at Kei's translation. He responds in Elvish:
"There may be at least one submerged entrance – the lizardfolk's original entryway. I am prepared to be part of the underwater scouting team. I have no magical tools, nor tricks, nor surprises. Just my eyes, my trident, and my crossbow. My sisters and brothers, too, although they will be part of the main assault force."
He pats Oceanus on the shoulder in thanks and nods to him. He relays the sea-elfs words to the others and adds "I can join them underwater and provide total cover for 2 of the 3 of us, for an hour at least." He ponders his own words. "That'll leave you lot of sword swingers without much magical support though. Hmm," he scratches at his bearded chin. " Otherwise, Peri could head down below with that hat he's got and I can stay with you two, again offering the cover of invisibilty to 2 of us. Id prefer to stay close to whomever is covered by the spell. Hate to lose my thought process at the wrong time." He seems quite undecided as to the best course of action.
”If there is an obvious front entrance, I say we bypass it and go to the original, submerged entrance instead. We should stay together, start out with our underwater kit and spells in place,” suggests Gerrard, “They are probably expecting any threat to come from above the water, so hopefully that will give us an advantage. There are also the potions of invisibility and gaseous form that should allow us to approach undetected should we use them to do so.”
Tuening to Boko, he adds, “And Mistress Boko could do some initial scouting of their exterior underwater defenses as an innocuous sea creature if she wishes.”
Commander Clay reappears at the top of the stairs.
"The Council is ready for your response. Farbern asks your commitment for a morning departure on th' mission. The lizardfolk recommend a daylight landing at th' river mouth. It's a long sail."
”I am with you, Captain Fenwader. Let those of us who are ready to embark on this mission join us inside,” says Gerrard. The young noble starts up the stairs to follow Commander Clay inside.

"Yeah, I'm not keen on bein' in their domain, but at least bein' underwater gives us the chance to sneak up. I'm not sure what we'll be able to do above water. Although, I could climb up the wall near the gate; up against the wall they probably couldn't see me from the island. And if Boko wants to turn into an octopus I could carry her up as well and the two of us could try to figure out the gate."Peri laughs dryly and looks to Boko. "I think that gives you a list of a dozen things to do for each of our one. Sounds like you're the most valuable member for this mission, so you're probably makin' the calls here."
"The Council is ready for your response. Farbern asks your commitment for a morning departure on th' mission. The lizardfolk recommend a daylight landing at th' river mouth. It's a long sail."
"Sheela's shiny bloomers! You want us to try this in the daylight?! We're outnumbered at least ten to one, in an environment totally favoring our enemies, who have no doubt fortified and trapped their position, and you expect us to do it with the sun shinin' down! Not that it ever shines in this accursed land, but still!"
Boko thanks Kei for translating. All she knows is druidic and primordial. She agrees that the group should probably stick together. "But I would be willing to scout ahead, as a small octopus perhaps. Even better if I could be invisible. Then, after returning with more information, we could all go in."
"If you do not want the gloves, I will try them. I've heard this can be learned, but I did not advance far enough in my studies to do it,"she tells Peri.
"I will take a light crossbow, and a spear, and an insulated shirt if I need to change out of wildform,"she tells Clay.
Unless you have further conversation in the entry hall, the party rejoins the chaotic crowd upstairs in the crowded Council chamber. They are discussing obtaining sufficient dried fish rations for Seaton's nautical forces, when they stop in Saltmarsh just before the strike.
Farbern spots the group reentering. "Friends," he addresses you, "Can we count on your services tomorrow at daybreak? Do y' have any further questions or requests regarding th' mission before we adjourn? Saltmarsh - indeed, the whole southern coast - is counting on you."
