Seth barges through the front door, followed by a wobbly Butter, a vacuous Farley, and a reluctant Missy. The rest of you peer in from outside.
The front door opens onto a musty, dirty entrance hall. To your left, a corridor leads into the west wing of the house. The walls are bare and bits of smashed furniture lie upon the floor. Ahead of you, another corridor leads toward the rear of the house. A staircase on the eastern wall climbs to the next story, reaching it at a balcony that overlooks the entrance hall along its north and west sides; the stairs appear safe to climb, though the balcony rail is broken in several places. Under the stairs at the north end of the hall, a third corridor leads east.
(It's already on the map. Qivys had gotten a glance of this room before, but hadn't seen the balcony or staircase from his previous vantage point.)
The house is quiet, except for rain softly pattering on the roof, and water dripping through many leaks.
"The entrance to the cellar is from the kitchen. Down that hallway at the back of the house." He indicates to the hall across from the entrance. "We didn't get a chance to check the second story."
His mind is not focused on the cellar though. He knows that the path would take them past the room where his friends hopefully still lay.
"Farley - check the left corridor. Missy - check the right. Butter - check upstairs."
Farley dutifully heads down the western corridor, his crossbow out. Butter makes his way upstairs, leaning heavily on the broken railing for support. The stairs creak ominously but hold.
He slips through the doorway and edges along the wall to the left (west) far enough to look around the corner after Farley goes through. Then he very quietly tells Seth, "Y'know, sir, Butter doesn't appear to be at his peak performance. Maybe he should keep an eye on our horses. Not that I'm tellin' you what to do, just providing input to the commanding officer so that he can make the best-informed decision, is all." He eases his sword from its scabbard.
Just as Peri finishes his suggestion, there is an enormous crash as Butter falls through the collapsing ceiling. Part of the balcony has given way.
Butter flounders in the air - 6 - and plummets to the floor in front of you. Damage: 1. He is bruised, but in pretty good shape, considering the fall. (Perhaps his inebriated condition helped soften the blow.)
Fortunately, nobody is injured below. There is now a seven-foot gap in the balcony above.
Missy heads down the right corridor as ordered. She doesn't have a weapon so she grips her arcane focus in preparation as she peeks into the first room. When she hears Butter fall she whips around but seeing he's relatively unharmed will go onto the next room, and presuming there's nobody in either room will return to the group and tell Seth it's all clear. (On the off chance that she does see somebody she will tell him that instead.)
The only thing of note in the first room is a clump of tiny red mushrooms growing around a fireplace in a semicircular formation. Otherwise, the room is bare.
The second room, as previously described, is empty except for a sizable pile of plaster that has fallen from the ceiling.
Farley wanders down the other hallway and surveys the room at the end. Empty, he reports.
"Arright. Show me the basement," says Seth to Qivys after Farley and Missy return. "Let's go!" he commands, and strolls down the hallway into the kitchen, swinging his sword in the air over his head again. His feathered plume sways and bobs as he leads the way.
You hear a high-pitched shriek from Seth as he enters the kitchen. You rush in behind him to find a horror scene. Sitting atop the two half eaten bodies of Omen and Kasimir are four massive centipedes - several feet long each. They stand on their back fifty, hiss, and lunge at you.
(BTW - Although I'd rather not get into grid squares and coordinates and the like, this is a rather confined space, so do specify your position with some precision. The creatures (and their meal) is in the center of the kitchen. Seth is just inside the room, the rest of you may enter, or not, in initiative order. Those in the back may have limited options.)
At Seth's shriek Missy pokes her had into the kitchen. The sight makes her pale and she has to swallow back bile. Sill, she has a job to do. With one had wrapped around her arcane focus she lifts the other and points a shaky finger at the closest centipede and casts fire bolt.
A mote of fire flies from Missy's finger and sears a few tiny legs off the nearest centipede. It is lightly injured, but still quite dangerous. It wiggles its antennae and clacks its jaws at her. (Where is she standing now?)
Seething with rage befitting a barbarian that his friends bodies are being defiled, the words seem to come from somewhere else, the gestures made without his understanding. Qiv casts Frostbite at the nearest centipede. Once cast, he moves into the room and to the left (west) of the creatures (drawing his hammer if it's allowed by action economy)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
With an arcane word and gesture from Qivys, frost begins to form on the creature Missy had struck. The creature tries to overcome the numbing cold - 17 - and succeeds.
Qivys then moves around the creatures on the side near the cracked and discolored stone sink, and draws his hammer.
Peri sees Missy and Qivys fire off spells into the next room, and Qivys charges in. He darts into the doorway and sees the half-eaten corpses and the giant centipedes, and he decides he's close enough. He points to whichever centipede he has the clearest line of sight to, and barks "Pilear!" A blue beam of energy leaps out toward the centipede.
A beam of crackling energy streaks from Peri's outstretched hands toward the uninjured centipede attacking Seth. It hisses in pain and appears to be badly injured, but it is still up.
Butter blunders through, elbowing Peri in the process, and stops in the south end of the room, between Qivys and Seth. He takes a wild, sloppy swing at the same centipede that Peri zapped (we'll call him "#2"). Longsword Attack: 8Damage: 9 - missing completely.
Farley runs forward and fires off a crossbow bolt from behind Peri at the first centipede (#1), narrowly missing Peri's ear. Heavy Crossbow: 17. Damage: 9 - obliterating the creature. One down.
Seth swings at Centipede #2 with his longsword. Attack: 16 Damage: 3 - cutting it cleanly in two. Two down.
There are two remaining creatures; both uninjured and currently engaged with Qivys.
Dwal may act next. He cannot get through the crowd in time for a melee attack, but if he moves up behind Farley, he might be able to slip in a ranged attack (Seth, Peri, and Farley are all in his way, providing some technical cover for the creatures.)
Dwal moves where he can see the target. His dragon blood rises as he fires Magic Missile.
Magic Missle gives you three simultaneous darts. Roll twice more! Do you want all three to hit the same target, or do you want to split them up?
You create three glowing darts of magical force. Each dart hits a creature of your choice that you can see within range. A dart deals 1d4 + 1 force damage to its target. The darts all strike simultaneously, and you can direct them to hit one creature or several.

Qivys
"The entrance to the cellar is from the kitchen. Down that hallway at the back of the house." He indicates to the hall across from the entrance. "We didn't get a chance to check the second story."
His mind is not focused on the cellar though. He knows that the path would take them past the room where his friends hopefully still lay.
Seth nods vaguely at Qivys.
"Farley - check the left corridor. Missy - check the right. Butter - check upstairs."
Farley dutifully heads down the western corridor, his crossbow out. Butter makes his way upstairs, leaning heavily on the broken railing for support. The stairs creak ominously but hold.
Peri:

Missy
Missy heads down the right corridor as ordered. She doesn't have a weapon so she grips her arcane focus in preparation as she peeks into the first room. When she hears Butter fall she whips around but seeing he's relatively unharmed will go onto the next room, and presuming there's nobody in either room will return to the group and tell Seth it's all clear. (On the off chance that she does see somebody she will tell him that instead.)
Both rooms are empty.
Dwal
Dwal will go inside and follow along.
Initiative:
Giant Centipedes: 13
Missy: 22
Dwal: 4
Peri: 7
Qivys: 17
Seth, Farley: 6
Butter: 7
Missy and Qivys may act first.
Missy
At Seth's shriek Missy pokes her had into the kitchen. The sight makes her pale and she has to swallow back bile. Sill, she has a job to do. With one had wrapped around her arcane focus she lifts the other and points a shaky finger at the closest centipede and casts fire bolt.
To hit - 24
damage if hit - 1
A mote of fire flies from Missy's finger and sears a few tiny legs off the nearest centipede. It is lightly injured, but still quite dangerous. It wiggles its antennae and clacks its jaws at her. (Where is she standing now?)
(Sorry forgot to add she ducks back out of the doorway)
Qivys
Seething with rage befitting a barbarian that his friends bodies are being defiled, the words seem to come from somewhere else, the gestures made without his understanding. Qiv casts Frostbite at the nearest centipede. Once cast, he moves into the room and to the left (west) of the creatures (drawing his hammer if it's allowed by action economy)
(Spell save DC is Con 12 btw.)
With an arcane word and gesture from Qivys, frost begins to form on the creature Missy had struck. The creature tries to overcome the numbing cold - 17 - and succeeds.
Qivys then moves around the creatures on the side near the cracked and discolored stone sink, and draws his hammer.
The centipedes spring. Two upon Qivys, and two upon Seth.
On Seth:
Centipede 1 (wounded) - Attack: 13
Piercing Damage: 4- MissCentipede 2 - Attack: 15
Piercing Damage: 5- MissOn Qivys:
Centipede 3 - Attack: 7
Piercing Damage: 6- MissCentipede 4 - Attack: 13
Piercing Damage: 4- MissSeth is nearly as well-armored as Qivys, and none of the insects' dripping jaws manage to penetrate their thick armor.
Peri may act next.
Peri:
Peri sees Missy and Qivys fire off spells into the next room, and Qivys charges in. He darts into the doorway and sees the half-eaten corpses and the giant centipedes, and he decides he's close enough. He points to whichever centipede he has the clearest line of sight to, and barks "Pilear!" A blue beam of energy leaps out toward the centipede.
Eldritch blast 18 for 3 damage
He then ducks back out of the doorway opposite Missy.
Longsword Attack: 8

Missy and Qivys may act after Dwal.
Dwal
Dwal moves where he can see the target. His dragon blood rises as he fires Magic Missile.
Damage: 5
