Smiling at the warm reception, Gerrard says, "Oh no, I couldn't impose, good Guildwoman. We are here to investigate the disappearance of some young children in the area--Constable Farbern informed us that someone from your guild found one of them deceased today? Having just gotten back into town, we...ah...volunteered to look into the matter in the hopes of rescuing the other children before it is too late. Could you please find someone who knows where the unfortunate girl was found that we may begin our work?"

Gerrards words come as a shock. Gone was the naivety of those born with a silver spoon in their mouth. Instead there was a man that may be worth following. A man whose eyes had been opened by the unnatural events that had unfolded in the past weeks. Kei does his best to not let the spark of admiration show but instead falls into line behind the group. He remains quiet while they make their way to the carpenters guildhall. To his colleagues it would appear as though he is sulking like a berated child.
Boko listens as well, and waits for a later opportunity to briefly introduce herself and to ask if there have been any odd flora or fauna-related changes since the children began to go missing. She's out of her element, exhausted, and trying to stick to the areas of her own expertise.

Peri:
Peri follows Gerrard into the Guildhall. He lets out a low whistle, admiring the fine joinery on display in the building's structure. "I was apprenticed under the Ship's Carpenter on my second ship. Learned which end of the chisel to hold and how to saw a square line. But he packed me off when our ideas of "good enough" differed. Said my mortises looked like -- what was it again? Ah, 'the gnawings of a one-toothed, drunken beaver.'" He runs a hand over a seam so fine as to be invisible were it not for the change of grain. "Bit harsh, I thought, but seein' this work I hafta agree I'd never've been a real craftsman."
He makes his way around the inside of the Hall, ostensibly admiring the workmanship but in fact searching for any hidden runes or other carvings that might offer insight into why the evil of the Cove doesn't encroach on this building. Perception: 19
Kanklesten frowns at Peri and then tries to ignore him. She looks back at Gerrard with a bright smile.
"Yes, my employee Dinah found the girl's body, outside the new cabin – the one in the middle, yours is it not? White as a cloud; all the blood drained from her. I think you were pretty stu – I wonder if you were ill-advised in rebuilding those cottages. There's an old evil there. Has been as long as I've lived here, and that's near eighty years. Sometimes I can hear the spirits calling from the rubble late at night. I try my best to get home long before midnight hours approach. Most local folks know to stay away from Crabbers Cove, especially at night. People have been disappearing there for centuries – the crabs ate 'em up, they said. But you folks come and clear the crabs out and start building things, and it seems like things are getting worse, not better."
"No, no flora or fauna changes," she adds, addressing Boko. "Well, maybe a bit more rodent activity. I poison my foundation heavily, I admit. Seems to keep 'em mostly out. Nothing much ever grows there but the odd weed."
"Three more kids still missing, I hear. Probably dragged into the deeps somewhere."
Peri examines the interior for evidence of runes or other arcana. There's some very unusual wood here – a wide variety of specimens from blackened stumps to silvery thorns to multi-hued hardwoods, but nothing that strikes him as magical.
”Indeed. Is Miss Dinah here? I would hear of her experience and perhaps see exactly where and in what condition she found the body. Also, you spoke of the ‘deeps’—I assume you mean underwater, but if the body was not wet, perhaps there is another hidden area around here where this evil lairs,” suggests Gerrard.
Qivys says little during this time, lost in his own thoughts. "Blasted bird." he mutters under his breath.
"Has tha watch set up any type of guard or patrol fer down here or was they just avoidin' tha place and lettin' folks fend fer themselves?" Qivys asks.
"Dinah's gone home. She'll be back in the morning. The body was in front of your house. Not wet, as far as I heard, but I didn't go see it. But I wouldn't doubt for a minute that the others could have been dragged into the water."
"Guards?" She shrugs. "They come down this way sometimes but usually turn around here. They're not in the habit of going all the way down to the end of the road, no."
You know that much of the rubble was recently cleaned up, at least in and around your two cottages. One collapsed cabin, the one nearest the Carpenters' Guildhall, is still more or less untouched by your efforts.
”That’s it then, I suppose. We’ll see what we can find. Will you be here later in case we have further questions?” asks Gerrard as he prepares to leave.
After waiting to see if anyone else has questions or other business, Gerrard says his goodbyes and heads over to the indicated body recovery location.

It's cold and dark. A moderate snow is falling, although not much has accumulated, except in a few patches.
The indicated spot where the body was found was indeed right by your doorstep, practically on the road. There is little to see – some boot prints in the mud, now frozen.
A pair of canine eyes shine out from the scrub by the beach, watching.
”Anyone have skill with tracking?” asks Gerrard, “Some of these boot prints may be from the ones who found the body, but perhaps there are tracks of whatever brought her here as well.”

Boko frowns at the tracks and bootprints. "Gerrard, last time we were here, I admit I could made hide nor tail of the tracks that were around your cook. Would you mind watching me while I try to make sense of these? My eyes are fatigued."She steps a bit closer and whispers. "I am also mindful of our canine watcher over there, but I do not want to spook them. Keep an eye on them while I watch the ground, and I will then turn to address it. Perhaps with a charm, or as a dire wolf."
She looks at the tracks, accepting help from Gerrard, and also tries to ascertain the form of the creature behind the canine eyes.

Peri:
Peri trudges down the muddy street to the spot in front of their cabins. "These people!" he grouses. "We try helpin' and all we get is blame and suspicion! Oh, I'm so sorry we've ruined your perfect little hamlet. How rude of us to get rid of the terrifyin' shrieks comin' from that old mansion; I didn't know they were just part of the local color! And bustin' up the local smugglers -- ruined a local business, we did! Those goblin bandits? Kept nosey neighbors out! But our worst crime was gettin' rid of the crab infestation and fixin' up a pair of old cottages, fools that we are. Everyone knows that place is evil and dangerous! Course that doesn't stop us from lettin' kids go play down there, but we're gonna give you the stink-eye when they disappear! I'm done with these stupid people! Let's try to find their stupid missing kids, so they can lead long, stupid lives waiting for the next thing to come drag off more townsfolk, then I'm washin' my hands of 'em, and good riddance!"
He barely pauses at the site where the body was found, figuring if Boko can't find anything he's unlikely to. Instead he goes into the cabin, banging the door open and slamming it shut behind him. He gives the cabin a quick look-over to see if anything is lurking in here with him. (Perception15) Seeing nothing, he spreads out a bedroll in the main room, intent on sleeping here tonight.

The tracks are frozen, muddled, and dusted with snow. They appear to be indeterminate, common boot prints, suggesting something not dissimilar to what the local guards tend to wear. There are also some common rodent prints. Nothing too unusual, though.
( Canine stealth check: 17 )
Meanwhile, Peri examines the cabin, and finds nothing out of place. It is as they left it.
An irritated-looking gnome answers the door. "Yes?" she asks, curtly.
Inside you see a large, highly-organized workshop filled with neat stacks of wood, tools, and half-finished barrels.
"Oh! Mr. Feldren?" Her demeanor changes abruptly. "Gerrard! Mr. Feldren! Come in! May I make you some tea? I'm so sorry it's such a mess in here..."

Qivys turns and rushes to the carpenter's guildhall. Once he gets there he will call out: "What's going on?" he asks as he opens the door.
