"This?" She holds up the scrap with her tweezers. "This is a shard of a treant’s bark, given freely of course. I pay handsomely for rare woods such as this."

Gerrard:
”No, Mistress Boko, he is exhausted and feeling unappreciated. He will improve with rest, food, and beverage,” responds Gerrard, gazing at the dog as well as he helps Boko with the tracks.
Nature check on the dog: 13
”Hey, where did the others go?” he asks after looking up and seeing Qivys nowhere to be found and Kei either likewise gone or just unusually quiet.

Kei
Trying to mind his own business as he works through the images in his mind, Kei is startled by the shriek. He watches as the new dwarf runs towards the door of the guildhall. He smirks at Qivys - Not the smartest, are you? That scream came from near the guildhall not at the guildhall. Fearing the longer he waits the greater the chance he'll misjudge the true direction of the scream he seeks help from his cards.
Perception Unable to parse dice roll. plus 4 Guidance.
With his keen senses he follows the haunting memory of the scream.
Kei wanders over to the collapsed cabin next to the guildhall."Help me, I beg of you" calls out a man's voice. In the dim lamplight from distant sources down the street, Kei can see a man peering out of a crack in what was probably the foundation of the cellar of the ruined house. "The jackals, my leg they tore up. I cannot walk,"pleads the man.
Meanwhile, Gerrard, unaware of either Kei's or Qivys' conversations, notices that Boko, overcome by fatigue, has curled up on the ground next to him and fallen asleep.
People heading off on their own or falling asleep at his feet in the middle of the conversation seemingly all at the same time rings alarm bells in Gerrard’s head (yay passive Insight 12). He bends over and shakes Boko awake, saying to her, “Something is wrong! Wake up! I fear we are being manipulated and purposely separated!”
Yelling, Gerrard calls out, “Master Kei, Master Qivys, Master Fenwader, please return! I fear a nefarious influence is attempting to separate us!”

Peri throws open the door again, ready to give Gerrard an earful about, "Of course we're bein' manipulated!" But he sees Gerrard standing alone, with Boko lying at his feet.
"What's goin' on? Where'd the other two go?" he demands, drawing out his spear and taking up a position near Boko and Gerrard. He scans the area around them with his Eldritch Sight, looking for any sign of an ambush.
Peri scans his surroundings with his Eldritch Sight, but sees nothing arcane other than their own few such possessions.
The canine has vanished.
"Cry out in pain?" responds Kanklesten to Qivys. "Wasn't me. I do have a terribly bad back though. If I raise my arm higher than this," – she demonstrates – "I get shooting pains right down my leg."
Boko awakes with a sleepy start. Jumps up to her feet, awkwardly. "What happened? I dreamt I was sleeping in a burrow... where is the dog? It made me... tired."
She moves over to where she saw the eyes, unless she is held back.
Qivys abuptly closes the door as Kanklesten starts going on about her ailments. Qivys moves around the guildhall, taking a look then moves to the next closest building, unless he sees Kei, then he will move to his location.
As he does so, upon hearing Gerrard, he replies: "I'm checkin out where that cry of pain came from." he calls.
Motioning the others to follow after Qivys calls our, Gerrard says, “Let’s stick together,” and moves over to Qivys (as long as the others are sticking with him.
”Where is Master Kei?” he asks once the four of them are reunited.

Kei
"How on earth did you end up under the building? I didn't hear a building collapse." He questions the trapped man. He waits for the response from the apparent victim. Concentrating on the scene he doesn't hear Gerrards call.
Insight 6
If he senses no deception he will call out to the others to come and assist lifting the debris to free the man.
If non-truth is spoken, "I fear I have no way to help you. I'm but a musician lost after a heavy days drinking. I will send the guard back to render assistance ". He then walks back to the group and informs them of the man's attempted ruse.
"I am hiding under here," replies the man, a middle-aged human in dusty clothing, to Kei. He appears honest to Kei. "The jackals – a whole crowd of them - one bit through my leg! I cannot use it! Please help get me free of here – I beg you!" He appears to be inside the damaged cellar of this collapsed building. "There lies a trapdoor above which I jumped downward through. I simply do not have the strength in my damaged leg to climb again up. I need your help to carry me from this place. Please, sir. I will repay you handsomely."
Meanwhile, Boko investigates the weedy edge of the property, where she saw the doglike thing. It has vanished. She stands at the edge of a slight berm overlooking the narrow, rocky shore. Low surf crashes on tumbling rocks. Snow swirls in the air.
Qivys is not far from Kei, by the abandoned ruin. Peri is the doorway of their cottage next door. Gerrard stands nearby, at the scene of the crime, slowly being covered with light snow.
"Jackals!" Kei shouts back to anyone close enough.
"Here, let me help you out." He climbs on top of the rubble and searches for the trapdoor. Opening it he spots a safe way down to the injured man. He slides down into the small crawl space and attempts to free the survivor from any rubble trapping him. He begins to drag the man to safety. "A little help!" Hoping he can be heard by someone he shouts.
Peri turns toward Kei's call, intending to help, but a sudden flash of suspicion stops him in his tracks. Gerrard was right to worry about being separated. He wasn't familiar with jackals, but if they were anything like their larger lupine cousins they would try to separate one member from the group before overwhelming it. So he instead steps a bit closer to Boko, asking, "See anything? If not, we should stick close to the others; go see what Kei's yellin' about."

Kanklesten jumps in alarm at Qivys sudden appearance. She was evidently in the middle of placing something in a tiny drawer with tweezers.
"I BEG your pardon? I'm trying to close up here. Is there anything more I can do for you?" she asks Qivys in obvious irritation.
"Where did that come from?" he asks hurriedly.
"This?" She holds up the scrap with her tweezers. "This is a shard of a treant’s bark, given freely of course. I pay handsomely for rare woods such as this."

She asks Gerard if Peri has always been like this or if it has been a recent development, starting to be a little suspicious or at least concerned.
"That ain't it." Qivys says. "Heard someone cry out in pain."
