While Kellen searches (unsuccessfully) for a spyglass, Gerrard shades his eyes from the sunset and squints at the approaching mass. It is long and wormlike. And something is flying above it – a few things. With flapping wings. They are perhaps a mile away, approaching steadily toward both you and city behind you.
Then the wave hits. Rurik tries to bring the crippled vessel around with his makeshift steering. Ship Dex check: 0
The line controlling Rurik's "rudder" disconnects abruptly under the strain, and the wave strikes the ship nearly broadside. It's not nearly as big as the one that assaulted the ship earlier, but it's big enough to cause a minor crisis.
"There is a long, worm-like shape moving through the water and there are winged creatures above it! I see..." says Gerrard, suddenly interrupted by the oncoming wave!

Gerrard,Kellen, and Tamra are slammed against the deck, taking 2 bludgeoning damage, and Kellen and Tamra are swept overboard. Kei manages to hang on, unharmed, as does Rurik, releasing a torrent of foul Dwarvish swears.
The seas quiet, but the approaching shapes grow closer. You can see panic ashore as the citizens of Seaton scramble for safety as the new wave hits the broken city.
Drawing his bow and preparing for the flying creatures' approach, Gerrard says, "Perhaps being able to fly may help in the upcoming combat, assuming they are hostile. Anyone want to give me such a spell?"
(Long Range is 600', Gerrard may start firing if he can confirm they are hostile to them or the city).

Kellen and Tamra begin their swim back to the floundering boat. Sails luff from dropped lines. Rurik races to try to re-rig his makeshift tiller system.
And three massive birdlike things – one with a figure on its back – begins to arc high overhead toward the city. They are high – maybe 500 feet up – but indeed enter within Gerrard's bow's long range.
You can see the warship doubling back, nearer the shore.
And the massive sea serpent approaches, outpaced by its flying companions.
As the flying creature approach, Gerrard says, “With that wave they just used to swamp the city, I can’t imagine their intentions are peaceful,” and he takes careful aim at the body of the flying creature bearing the rider.
”Let’s get their attention,” he adds.

Two of the arrows strike true, catching the flying beast's attention far above. It looks like a massive black, hideous vulture. It wheels about and begins to dive toward you. The rider, clad in black mail, remains upon its back (diving 60 feet per round.)
Kellen: Make a Dex check to see how quickly you can clamber out of the water and back aboard (DC20: This round. DC10 next round. But it will require your whole Action to do so.)
Tamra's Dex check to do the same: 14
Rurik is racing to fix the tiller as the ship drifts and the sails luff.
The sea monster approaches (several rounds away yet.) The warship approaches from the other direction.
"Still out of range for me" he says disappointedly as Gerrard let's loose his arrows. With nothing to contribute to the oncoming fight, Kei looks to Rurik and asks; "What can I do to help? We're sitting ducks at this point".

Gerrard:
Sighting in on the rapidly approaching vultures, Gerrard replies, “Keep helping the ship get underway and the people get on board. If we are dead in the water when the sea beast arrives it will likely swallow us.”
He keeps shooting arrows at the vultures, focusing first on the one bearing the rider. Now that he has gotten a good look at them, he tries to shred wings and induce an uncontrolled fall!

Gerrard fires another volley. One arrow hits the wing of the ugly black bird wheeling downward. Its wing struck through, it begins to plummet... DC 17 Strength Save: 6
Unable to fly with one damaged wing, the massive bird falls out of the sky, its black-armored rider still clinging to its back. They impact the surface of the water, taking 68 bludgeoning damage.
The other two birds begin a direct dive toward you.
Kellen continues to scramble up into the ship. Kei may act.
Both the bird and its rider seem to have survived, although both are badly injured. The filthy black birdlike creature looks not of this plane of existence, yet somehow familar. Its rider, clad in black mail, still half-clings to its back. Her eyes lock with Gerrard's. He recognizes her. Captain Xondros, of the Faithful Quartermasters of Iuz in Saltmarsh. She spits blood and points a black-gloved finger at Gerrard.
