As Ulala continues to play and Percy begins to dance, a sound of metal clanking can be heard coming from the hallway. The group slowly turns to see a human male about 5’11’’ walking into the room adorning full plate, minus his helmet. His armor is well polished and a sword can be seen adorned to the side of his waste. He pauses as he enters the doorway, eyes bouncing around between the group. Letting out a sigh he seemingly mumbles to himself “Well I guess this is my punishment for the handling of the wererat incident last month…”
He begins to walk towards the podium speaking loudly on the way “Beautiful! Beautiful! Now let’s save the rest of that for the tavern tonight. I would like to get this underway.” He arrives at the podium in the front and turns to face the group. Speaking to the group he says “Welcome and thanking for coming. I am Ward Knight Melcher of Eastgate. I am in charge of informing and commanding you in this upcoming incursion. Firstly, I will explain the situation, simple enough that even the dwarf over there can understand…” He stares directly at Gorlok, pausing for a brief moment before continuing.
“For generations, the orcs from the west and the citizens of Odaigo have had conflicts over territory and food. The orcs were always easy to quell once their numbers became too large, but the threat could never be completely eliminated due to the thick and unforgiving nature of the western forest. Some would always survive, regroup and their numbers would grow again until the conflict would renew. This cycle continued till 15 years ago, when the orc attacks began to become sophisticated, and purposed. Upon investigation, a new leader had taken over the orc clan and began to organize their pillaging rampages. This leader was a half-orc/half-human named Boneslasher Grush. Under his influence, the orcs went from a slight inconvenience to a major threat. After 10 long years of conflict, the Baron Euphemes finally was able to make a treaty with Grush. The deal separated the forest from human control and allowed the orcs complete claim. This would be honored as long as the orcs stayed in the forest and never pillaged the fields of Odaigo.
Obviously, if this agreement had been honored we would not be here today. As of a month ago, the raids began again and the Baron has ordered the defeat of these orcs. 10g per head and an extra amount for Boneslasher Grush. 300 gold pieces if Grush is brought back dead. 500 gold pieces if he is brought back alive.” Mechler reaches into his armor and pulls a scroll. Unfurling the scroll he shows the room saying “This order comes directly from the Baron himself.”
After a brief moment, Mechler continues “As part of this unit, you will be assigned the southern flank on the militia force into the western forest. Advancing and eliminating any orcs you encounter on the way. We shall leave at sunrise tomorrow. If you are interested, please sign your name on this piece of paper. Once signed, you are committed to this assignment and if you do not show up, while be charged with deserting and will face punishment in Odaigo. Now, are there any questions?”
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
“500 gold pieces…!?” Ulala reacts under her breath, unable to contain her excitement. She quickly commits her name to the contract, almost as an afterthought. Following up on Gorlok’s inquiry, Ulala approaches Mechler. Fingering his polished armor, she suggests: “You wouldn’t think that some of our more...athletic members could acquire some plate like this, would you? It sounds like we are going to go to a scary place, and I’ll be a defenseless girl without the protection of some strong men...”
Her eyes again appear to glow dimly. Persuasion: 20
Melcher nods at Percy and informs him that they will meet at the West Gate tomorrow morning for departure and that the battle should not take longer than the day.
Melcher turns to Gorlock and says "The first item of business for you needs to rid that ghastly beard... I can't believe you.." When Ulala interrupts him with her request. Seemingly flattered by her Melcher says, "Of course." A soft smile grows across his face. "There will be a Militia Armory tomorrow before departure for those needing last minute supplies. As signing your name, you will have access to it." Seeing Gorlock still staring at him he says " As well as you dwarf."
gorlok stares melcher down, never breaking eye contact.
”Loooks lik ya armors got a scratch there knight melcher, best fetch ya squire boy to buff it out, cant be loookin lika ragamuffin when ya send the farmers tado tha fightin. aye knows appearances are importent to yas”
pressing a finger to his nose, gorlok dramatically clears his nasal passageway, and spits it into the corner of the room.
(addressing Ward Knight Melcher). That is a considerable amount of coin and I am no stranger to the slaying of orcs. Although a night assault would be preferable for my particular skillset, I will sign your paper and be at the battlefront at the appointed time.
After the last signature, Melcher rolls up the piece of parchment and says "I bid you all a best night's rest, and I will see you in the morn at the West Gate."
OOC: If there is anything you guys would like to do before the morning please let me know, otherwise I will move on.
The next morning arises and the group finds themselves assembling at the West Gate. The group can now see that there is roughly 30 militia assembled. Panning through the crowd, they are able to locate Melcher, adorning his armor from the previous night. He greets everyone and turning his attention to Ulala and Gorlok he says as he points "There is a tent over there that has Militia supplies. You are more than welcome to borrow and equipment you find there for the upcoming battle.
Inside the tent, the two are greeted by a man wearing a leather vest. For weapons, there is an assortment of short swords, long swords, bows and arrows in the tent. As well as a few pieces of leather armor and chain mail armor. The man politely asks "By the Baron's order, would you like to borrow any sort of equipment you see here?"
OOC: If you guys are looking for anything in particular, feel free to ask.
Once returned from the tent, Melcher seems to be staring out into the distance and says "Make sure you watch your backs once in the forests. The orcs are sure to know we are coming. Speaking of which, what order will you be marching in?"
Graxxy walks along the equipment, his trident being used to prod with the staff end at the equipment. He grimaces unsatisfied with the lack of equipment. He searches to see if a few net are nearby.
Graxxy walks up to Melcher.
"Your orcs are as good as dead. I will be in the front tackling this threat head on. Hopefully the wood walker can help us navigate." says Graxxy motioning to the ranger.
Percy seems in high spirits among the crowd this morning showing off Gotrek to various people. On seeing the rest of the crew from last night he follows them to Melcher and then follows to the equipment tent. He takes a look around for the chance at a shield, morningstar, musket ,and set of half plate.
"Good to see you all again," he says as he roots among the implements of war.
When he returns to Melcher, "I should be able to perform in the front or rear as needed.
Percy is able to locate a shield and a morningstar, but is unable to find the musket and half plate. They do have leather armor and chain mail available if so desired.
Gorlok throughly inspects the weapons, running a finger down the blades and checking them for weight, balance and craftsmanship. disappointed, he turns to ulala
”wha a bunch a shite! seen stronger iron forged from outta goblins ass. bet they be holdin tha good stuff fer pretty boy Melcher and tha likes.”
Gorlok adresses the man in the tent
”aye lad! well be needin a battle axe, long sword, 5 throwin daggers, 100f foota rope, a set a manacles, and most importantly a good shield and as many arrows as i can take”
The man nods his head at Gorlok and respons "Ay we have all of that. You have to decide though between the long sword and the battle axe. You can have the rest though. The shields are over there, and you can find the rope and such in the box over there. Good luck with the orcs today."
Ulala is hungover and in no mood for merrymaking. She enters the tent, and bites her lip angrily in reaction to the lack of high quality plate available; despite her previous interaction with Melcher. She looks for a crossbow. Halfway noticing Gorlok speaking to her before leaving the tent, she playfully twirls a strand of his beard before exiting.
Upon seeing Melcher and the rest of the party outside, Ulala quickly changes her expression and puffs her cheeks childishly. "Oh, by Appollo's light~. It would be much too dangerous for me to be at the forefront of a fight~. Thankfully we have some strong men to lead our way~," she states, while eyeing Graxxy suggestively. Turning her attention to Melcher, she puts on a glowing smile. "I wish someone like you could come with us though. I've always wanted to see what a true hero could do in battle~."
The guard in the tent eyes Ulala from head to toe and says "Umm... Umm crossbows are not part of the equipment militia are allowed to use. Only us soldiers are allowed to us the Baron's crossbows. I am allowed to use a crossbow as a solider of the Baron's' army miss. I know that it is pretty impressive to be a solider at my age."
Melcher looks at Ulala and says "You know you are a charming lady. However, I am no hero. Only young boys have hero's dreams and my spry days are over. Besides, a Ward Knight's duty is to protect their wards at all time. Baron knows that the moment I would leave Eastgate, something would happen and it would be me in the stocks on the streets. I do wish you a glorious battle and besides, I felt the power of that song briefly last night" Melcher looks down at his right hand with a enervated gaze, while beginning to slowly flex his fingers a half fist before continuing by stating ".... if only for a moment."
"Well we could have done better, but at least they bothered to equip us. Here Gorlok I heard your words, this might help.
He takes the battle axe for a moment, does the Mary Poppins thing and reaches like half his body into a small bag hanging on the back of Gotrek and takes a small tool from his bag, attaches it to the handle of the axe and connects it to the head before handing it back to Gorlok with a blue glow. It is noticably lighter and on inspection sharper.
"I've developed a few tricks of my own since being taught. This is a small Infusion of those talents."
"Graxxy I would certainly prefer to stand back and let Gotrek prove himself while I support, but I can certainly hang up close with you two if that would make either of you more comfortable. I just need to know now to prepare a bit better before battle."
This magic weapon grants a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with it.
Graxxy picks up the net and throws it over his shoulder.
Graxxy then turns to Percy.
"My area of expertise is holding people in place and wearing them down while others take cheap shots on them. The further back you can be, the safer I can make you and increase our chances of victory." says Graxxy.

Graxxy looks down at his hand and makes a fist a few times feeling the power flowing through him from Ulala's song he looks at her with curiosity.
"Hmm" is all he says.
As Graxxy sees the male walk in with polished armor a slight smile crossed his face as he knows he's dealing with a professional.
"300 gold it is then." Graxxy says as he steps up and signs the parchment.
"Tempus thanks you." Graxxy says to the questgiver.
Percy bows as the officer comes in and listens eagerly to the simple presentation.
"I think that payment will suffice easily, and I look forward to field testing my products and saving this year's harvest."
Percy walks up and signs the parchment as well."
"You can count on Percy Croft."
He rejoins the others.
"I wish you the best of luck in command. Where and when do we meet next?"
Gorlok approaches the knight admiring his plate armor while signing his name to the parchment.
”wha kinda gear can weh expect ta be outfitted in? aye dont assume yur sendin abuncha farmers to their doom armed wit pitchforks and torches.”
the dwarf motions to the paladin
“a set eh skilled fighters like us will go far wit tha proper tools. jus point us to tha armory and we see to tha rest.
