Graxxy grins at his companions enjoyment of the festival. His face hardens as he remembers his mission.
Graxxy steps back and will make his way to the tournament but will not participate. Graxxy will walk around the perimeter remaining in sight of the fights looking for anyone looking suspicious of fidgeting nervously.
Graxxy scans the crowd and doesn't notice anyone in particular standing out. Just some nervous performers seem to be the only ones on edge.
After the performance the group decides to head around the fair to locate the fighting tournament which is located towards the center of town, near where the bell tower was located. Upon arrival, the group sees a ring being set up with rows of seats being assembled around the ring. A large tent stands adjacent saying "Sign up here!" Upon entering the tent, the group sees a table and two men behind it. There is a short line of 3 people in front of them. After waiting about 10 minutes, the group is able to make it to the front of the line. The man on the left says "Ah welcome! If you are interested in the dueling tournament, the signs up are here. You will be given a blunt sword and a shield and the first opponent to land 3 hits wins." The man on the right says "And here you can sign up for the archery tournament. This tournament involves competing against your opponent to be the first one to strike 3 targets in the air. Both opponents shot at the same time and the arrow that hits first wins!"
The ma'am continues by saying "Both tournaments take place at the same time, so you can only sign up for one! If you win the tournament you recieve a special prize and 150g!"
Ulala replaces the remaining pieces of lint in her coin purse with the generous coin received from her audience. Joining her companions, she observes the flyer with them. "150g!? ...It looks like it's time to show Odaigo what Kara-Tur archery looks like!" she exclaims, signing up immediately.
Percy listens carefully to the explanations. "I suppose I could compete in either," he says to himself as he looks at Gotrek's hands. " I don't think you will be able to compete with those hands, my friend." Percy sighs and pats the automaton on the head before addressing the woman at the counter. As he signs his own name onto the list he looks up slightly " What if a contestant wishes to enter the tournament unarmed?"
The man responds to Percy "Unfortunately, the contest is rewarded by points given when struck with a sword. If you can't hold a sword I don't see how you could compete..."
The woman responds to Gorlok "Before ever match there will be a betting at the tent near the stands. However any corruption is punishable by imprisonment!"
Graxxy looks outside the tent and notices small groups of guards (2 to 3) patrolling ever so often.
Graxxy walks up and flags down the group of guards next time they pass. He shows them his “Sherriffs Badge” and salutes them.
”Good day to you. I am Graxxy Darrington and have been tasked to track down some unsavory individuals as I believe you all have been informed of their description. Have you seen anything suspicious on your end? All has been quiet for me.” Says Graxxy.
The guard looks at the badge and says "Ah yes, Melcher informed us this morning about the situation. He said if you have any questions, he will be near the main event area, near the center of town. Have you seen anything suspicious so far?"
" Well Gorlok, best of luck in the melee. I was hoping to have Gotrek join you, but it doesn't seem he can compete without holding a sword. I'll have to hope I do well enough in archery to get a chance to show him off." Percy notices Graxxy missing, and takes a scan looking for him. When he notices him with the guards he runs up to him. " Everything going alright so far?"
The guards report to Gorlok that the morning has been relatively uneventful.
After signing up for the competitions, the two people behind the table reach into a box and assign numbers to the competitors.
Melee
Gorlok 14
Archery
Ulala 5
Percy 4
After receiving their numbers, they are informed that the competition will be a single elimination 16 person bracket. Each round will happen simultaneously (OOC this is really just to help speed things up irl). The group heads to their tent and prepares for their matches, in the first round it will be Ulala against competitor 2 and Percy against competitor 4. The rules of the archery tournament are explained as follows.
Archery Rules:
There are three rings distanced in increasing difficulty away from the competitors. The closest ring is worth 1 point, the middle ring is worth 2 points and the furthest ring is worth 3 points. At the start of each round, both competitors will release their arrow and fire at a ring. The competitors points will deduct from each other, unless their arrows pass through the same ring. At that point, the one whose's arrows passes through first will be awarded the points, and the second arrow will be voided. The first opponent to secure 7 or more points, wins the game.
Example: Round 1 Player 1: Shoots at ring 1 and hits. Player 2: Shoots at ring 3 and hits. Player 2 is awarded 2 points (3-1 = 2)
Round 2 Player 1: Shoots at ring 1 and misses. Player 2: Shoots at ring 3 and hits. Player 2 is awarded 3 points (3-0 = 3)
Round 3 Player 1: Shoots at ring 3, hits and his arrow hits first. Player 2: Shoots at ring 3 hits and his arrow hits second. Player 1 is awarded 3 points (no deduction)
How this plays out for your character is every round, your character will decide which ring they will shoot at and then roll an "attack roll" with a longbow (no need to calculate the damage, but all bonuses apply if applicable when you equip a long bow on your character sheet) and an initiative roll to see who shoots first (if both targets choose the same ring).
Gorlok heads to a different area and prepares himself for the fighting tournament. Upon arrival, he is handed a sword and shield. The sword is blunted and the shield is well dented. In similar fashion, the 16 person tournament will have their rounds commence simultaneously. Gorlok will be competing against the mysterious opponent 3.
Melee Arena rules:
The arena fights consist of trying to strike your opponent with your weapon, but not necessarily inflict damage. The first opponent to be struck three times, loses. There is no armor allowed in the tournament, only your shield. Due to the nature of the fighting being more about securing hits and your life is not on the line, advanced tactics can be implemented every round in forms of stances. Neutral does not change your stats, aggressive gives you +3 to attack rolls but -3 to AC, while defensive gives you +3 to AC while a -3 to attack. Initiative will only be rolled once and each stance last until the opponents next turn.
With a slight breeze in the air, the competitors head to their starting arenas. Ready to compete for gold and fame!
Ulala's competitor has white, short hair is pulled back to reveal a full, menacing face. Small amber eyes, set a-symmetrically within their sockets, watch eagerly over the deserts they've grown affectionate of for so long. A beard gracefully compliments his eyes and hair and leaves an amusing memory of his fortunate adventures. This is the mysterious competitor number 2.
Percy's competitor has silver, coily hair double braided to reveal a thin, sad face. Glittering amber eyes, set seductively within their sockets, watch discreetly over the haven they've fought for for so long. Soft skin graciously compliments her eyes and and leaves a beautiful memory of her fortunate destiny. This is the mysterious competitor number 4.
Gorloks competitor has black, short hair awkwardly hangs over a full, lively face. Squinting green eyes, set far within their sockets, watch rapidly over the tribe they've defended for so long. Soft skin seductively compliments his eyes and leaves a heartbreaking memory of his fortunate looks. This is the mysterious competitor number 3.

gorlok immediately signs his name to the list ignoring the women’s explanation of the rules.
”killen men fer sport an entertainment! reminds meh of tha slave pits back home it does! meh tha best man win.”
gorlok looks to the nearest participant and growls
”bes watch yerslef lad. got my eye on ya!”

”if som one wer ta....make a wager an place a few gold on tha matches, who might weh talk to...”
*wink*
Graxxy let’s others have fun but stays vigilant ready to pounce.
Does Graxxy see any guards nearby?
The man responds to Percy "Unfortunately, the contest is rewarded by points given when struck with a sword. If you can't hold a sword I don't see how you could compete..."

Graxxy looks outside the tent and notices small groups of guards (2 to 3) patrolling ever so often.
" I see. Thank you sir." Percy turns to Gotrek, " I'm sorry my friend. Maybe I can still get a chance to show you off."
Ulala enters the tent and places a 20g bet on Gorlok and a 20g bet on herself.
As Ulala places her bet, she is informed that winning a bet nets 50% more of what she bet. (So in this case she would win 30g, after placing 20g)
Graxxy walks up and flags down the group of guards next time they pass. He shows them his “Sherriffs Badge” and salutes them.

“aye, any unusual activity so far lads? missin persons? dismembered corpses? rat folks? Shady characters? wutcha got?”

Graxxy crosses his arms and stands next to the guards watching his friends compete for a brief moment before staying vigilant and watching the crowd.
"Nothing suspicious here yet my friend. I am staying vigilant and I am glad all these people can count on you to do the same." says Graxxy.
