He gives a nod to Rou, making note of the tieflings distaste of alcohol, and grabs the untouched glass of cider. In a swift gulp he downs the crisp pale liquid in one shot. Wiping his mouth with his sleeve he turns to Daran "So where might we find the leader of these ruffians?"
Daran makes a request in hushed tones to one of his workers and goes to take a drink, but stops at the Kharnyl'swords, "And that is exactly what happened. A young town is not kept safe by good intentions alone. Sildar and I were looking to train able-bodied folks, young and keen to make a mark after we've felt a few encroaching bandit groups." The half-elf takes a pull of his drink, "next thing we knew, they're hanging around the Sleeping Giant tap house, threatening businesses to offer coin for their 'protection', tricking people into impossible loans and favours, shoving people about and if they shove back, showing them a knife."
He sighs a moment before turning ti Krammond, "I've spotted them, at early hours, sneaking around the derelict Tresdenar Manor, just outside the south-east of town. When I've been keeping an ear out in Stonehill Inn, I hear they answer to 'Glasstaff'. But, who and what that is, I can't tell you..."
A worker comes over and places large glass jugs over water, orange juice and what seems to be beer on the table. The worker gives Roua smile before leaving...
"I saw some ruins on a bluff to the East as we entered town. If that's the manor houseyou speak of, it seems we'd have to pass through the whole town to reach it. Let's check out the inn or the taphouse on our way there," Kharnyl replies.
You all head towards the Sleeping Giant. You find it a shoddy shell of a place, and before you even go inside, there is a sense of tension as you see five of figures, mostly human with the odd half-orc and half-elf. They're all talking in groups, before they notice your approach...
"Look like you lot are here for business..." One of them approaches, a smug smile on his face, "And here there's a Redbrand Toll for business. Cough up, pups..." He holds his hand out casually, the other hand is cracking knuckles...
Kharnyl, sensing the impending beatdown, intervenes, "Don't mind my overzealous colleague. What he means is, we're interested in joining your organization. We figured there's good coin in it, and each of us is pretty well capable of extorting some local merchants. So, is this where we apply?"
Khanyl you see the the vagabond simply stand aside and let the dwarves through with a coy smile upon his face.
Inside the place, even compared to Stonehill Inn, this place rundown. An off smell lingers, as heads and eyes creak towards the groups direction. You notice roughly six or seven figures dotted around the place, eyeing up the visitors, strips of red dangling off their person. A streak of light from the boarded windows is on the bar where you see a female dwarf chatting to another dwarf and spilled bar...
Kharnyl heads over to the bar where the two dwarves are chatting and orders a beer. Turning to the woman beside him, he looks her over for any literal red flags. "Vemu," he says, placing a haha in her right shoulder, a show of respect to accompany the Dwarven greeting. "I am Kharnyl Deepdelver of Eartheart. What know ye of this town? I've only just arrived yesterday and haven't yet made a full lay of the land."
Upon entering Krammond will take a seat against a wall somewhere while Kharnyl chats up the other dwarves. He will observe the other patrons trying to determine if any pose an immediate threat.
Perception or Insight 22 (both same modifier) whichever you deem appropriate.
The female dwarf shrugs off Kharnyland replies in Common, "I know a few things; I know a group of randoms are kickin' up some dust in our town. A demon-thing, a halfy and a couple of dwarves... And look who just came in?"
Krammondcan tell the tension has, and still is, multiplying as you have stepped in. Eyes are shamelessly glued on you all as you take a seat, Krammond having the wisdom to sit with his back to a wall!
"Now, listen here: we're not looking for any trouble. We're just trying to find the gent what's payin' us to bring some supplies into town. We done our part, now we been gettin' shoved about everywhere we set foot in this town while we track down our skiving employer, and the cold reception we've met here is the last straw! A dwarf showing such disrespect to another dwarf is surely no small slight, and the day a Deepdelver lets some clanless show such insolence unchallenged is the day Moradin's forge goes cold!"
Turning to the bartender, Kharnyl shouts, "Barkeep! Make mine a Gutbuster, and another for my new friend, here!"
Looking back to the insolent dwarven woman, Kharnyl speaks softly: "You and me, drink till one drops. I win: your little buddies leave us be. You win: we'll leave Phandalin by morning."
Ooc: if a drink ever shows up, Kharnyl will raise it and say a blessing before he starts to chug.
The female dwarf stands her spot and rolls up her sleeves, "'Disrespect'?! You've got some nerve using that word! You stomp into my establishment, after using your magics on one of my regulars, embarrassing him. And now your calling me 'clanless'?! How bloody dare you! Out! Out with you! You ain't having anything from my taps!"
The male dwarf who she was talking to previous suddenly stands with a broad figure. A slight human woman to your right who was playing with a dagger, deftly catches it by the handle.
You will all notice idle figures who were conversing have gone silent, those drinking have put their drinks down and edging towards the table where the rest of the party is and around Kharnyl, who's a little separated off.
Krammond will move towards his Dwarven kin, standing tall (for a dwarf) next to Kharnyl. "Hang about Missy, what magics you talken' 'bout? We done nothing wrong by anyone, least I haven't. All I'd like is a flagon of mead and a quiet place to sit 'n' look for the bottom of me mug. Now I haven't known this'n for a long time, but a dwarfs a dwarf. If he done wrong by ya, then it'd be tween you and him. No others be need be involved. How bouts I shout you an ale and we just let water flow under the mountain?"He puts his best case forward to try and prevent bloodshed.

"Don't play coy with me, sonny. One of mine was ready to knock to the heavens, then he got the sudden idea to run away?! A bit odd! And didn't you come in with him? He was speaking on your behalf a moment ago! My word still stands: out." She leans and practically spits the last word with excessive pronunciation.
((Krammond, you can sense the tension is only rising, and quickly!))

Staying silent Rou hears her talk about the thug from the other day. Seeing people getting anxious Rou will use Thaumaturgy to make the ground shake "I will only say this once, we are here to found out what you people know of the ruins to help our friend Gundren. You and your "friends" have been harassing the folks at the other inn." Rou places his hand on his great axe, "I fight to kill, you come at me I'll kill anyone who tries I don't hold back."

((I'm pretty sure the inn in question is where we all met. The Sleeping Giant tap house is worth a try though ))
Thank you for the cider, Daran. It seems we have a few leads to check out. Let's check out the Sleeping Giant.
Seeing the work Rou gives a slight nod in appreciation and drinks his beer. “I could use another drink, lead the way.”
