Mendax feels the coolness of the ray of frost go by him as it freezes the pirate in mid-strike, his blade aiming for Mendax's head. Mendax then turns to ready a blow against Dead-Eye, but sees Con making the final blow.
Con utters the words as he prepares his strike: Die, pig. Die and be forgotten.
The sword seems to be about to slash, but it's a feint, and instead he stabs towards Dead-Eye's throat and... hits. It goes through, and Con gives a twist, just to make sure. As Dead-Eye drops, Con pulls his sword back and sees that the other enemies are all dead (OOC: Is that right?). He pulls a piece of cloth from his pocket and starts cleaning the blade of his sword, with only the faintest smile of satisfaction on his lips.
Mendax leans on his warhammer and gathers his breath. He mumbles a prayer to Lathander and without looking up he asks the room, "is everyone okay? Does anyone need any aid? Tarina, are you okay?"
((Yes, all the pirates are dead.)) Tarina gives a laugh as she sees Dead-Eye go down and says “Oh I’m fit as a fiddle, not a scratch on me!” Will claps Con on the shoulder and between heaving breaths says “Nice one.” Fairly rushes over to Oloric and kneels at his side but when he sees the ruin of his throat and his blank staring eyes he hangs his head and sits back on his heels. “I’m afraid he’s beyond my skill to help.” He says as he reaches out and closes the playwright’s eyes. Tarina look over at Oloric’s body and says “That’s a shame, I hope he didn’t owe any of you money.”
Kestrell pushes himself off the floor and also runs to Oloric. "Damn! He seemed like a good fellow. Damn!"
Kestrell looks around at everyone else. "So much for taking him into custody. Tarina, that was a lot of pirates. Why did they want you dead, again?" As he talks, he moves around picking up chairs and setting the tables back up upright. "We should pay for these broken chairs."
Mendax wades over the fallen bodies to sit next to Con on one of the other surviving chairs. He lays his warhammer on the table and then looks over Tarina. "All right, we did your business of protecting you." He then points at the chair opposite Con and him and using his stubby dwarven foot kicks it out from the table, "now take a seat so you can Con can ask you some questions," he says as he points at the chair.
Tarina walls over, spits on Dead-Eye, and comes back to sit down. As she goes she answers Kes “Ever since he offed the old captain and became captain himself he’s been tying up loose ends, looks like his was the last loose end he’ll ever tie up, haha!” She sits down and looks at Con and Mendax “So, the Dead Three... Several blocks northwest of here is a public bathhouse with a walled garden and some artsy-fartsy nymphs carved into its front gates. Followers of the Dead Three have been seen coming and going from the bathhouse, and I’m told there’s a secret door inside that leads to a dungeon. That’s where the killers are hiding.” She leans back and smiles. “I guess that makes us even!”
Tarina wrinkles her nose in disgust. “I don’t want any part of that crew’s booty, bad juju for me. It’s all yours so do with it as you like, as for the inkstain’s family, he didn’t have any. Not in Baldur’s Gate anyway. Now, if I was you I’d go and kill the rest of these pirates and claim the Uncivil Serpent for myself, plenty more booty to be had there, I imagine. Now, I’d you don’t mind, or if you do for that matter. I’ll be taking my leave.” She gets up, picks up her crossbow and starts heading for the stairs.
Kes, the pirates have 6 coin pouches with a total of 31 silver in them. Tucked in Dead-Eye’s vest is a pouch containing 32 gp and 15 sp. He also wears two gold necklaces (25 gp each) and a blackened gold ring with a white pearl set in it (125 gp). In addition there are 8 cutlasses, 7 light crossbows, and a dagger.
Kestrell pulls his dagger out of the dead pirate, wipes it clean and sheathes it. Then makes a pile out of the crossbows and cutlasses and dagger.
Then six piles of coins:
6 GP, 1 SP
6 GP, 1 SP
5 GP, 11 SP
5 GP, 11 SP
5 GP, 11 SP
5 GP, 11 SP
"There we go, nice and even. Will and Fairly, one for each of you. Grab a cutlass and a crossbow. Does anyone want the dagger? IF not, I need another. Should we sell the leftover weapons, necklaces and gold ring?"
The battle over, Vin collapses into the nearest intact chair as well, hands wrapped around the bolt sticking out of her gut. "Oww," she hisses through her teeth, "god that hurt."
Vin grits her teeth, and with a slight scream rips the bolt out, grabs the closest bottle of alcohol and dumps it into the wound. "Oh sweet mother-" she curses, cutting herself off before it gets too explicit. She begins patching the wound as best she can while listening to the conversation.
As Tarina gets up to leave, Vin looks around at the others, and the dead bodies littering the floor. A sadness crosses her face. She sighs, and says "well, I could certainly use a few hours rest, and while I don't relish a repeat of this scene, those pirates shouldn't be left to their own..." another sigh.
"We probably should sell that stuff, Kes, and maybe see if there's anything we can shop around for around here to help with the pirates and cultists."
Finally, Vin smiles to Will and Fairly. "Thanks for the assist, gentlemen. If there's anything we can do to make it up to you, just let us know. That could have been a lot messier without your help..." she trails off, eyes drifting to Oloric's body on the ground.
Tarina waves from the top of the stairs and says “So long, you lot aren’t bad in a scrap, I hope you don’t die.” And leaves. Alan, comes upstairs passing Tarina on her way down“Gods above.” He says “What happened here, Fairly? Will?” Will blows out a sigh before answering. “These here came in looking to murder Tarina, when Vin and her friends tried reasoning with them they started trying to kill them too. This is how it shook out.” Alan sees Oloric laying in front of Fairly. “Oh gods.” He cries “Ric you damn fool! You had no business being here.” He looks at the four of you but seems to think better about what he was going to say. “More heart than sense I always said.” Alan looks around at all of you. “I’ll have Klank and Skoona up here to take care of the bodies.” He turns and heads back down the stairs.
Now the full measure of what has happened has begun to set in. For some of you this may be the first time you’ve killed, or even seen death before, for others this may be a more familiar sight perhaps it is becoming too familiar. Whatever reverie each of you finds yourself in is interrupted by the heavy footsteps of the Half-Ogre and the huge armored figure. They begin the grim business of collecting the bodies with the exception of Oloric who Fairly still tends to. You are all now level 2.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
And how many other pirates are on this ship, Tarina? Con asks suspiciously. Insight10, because Con thinks she's clearing up loose ends by sending them to their deaths.
Before leaving Tarina turns and says “looks 8 dead here, Greeny, and the Serpent needs 20 for a crew. You do the math.” Con, you don’t get a good read on her either way as far as truthfulness.
Con waits for Tarina to leave, then looks at Mendax. Nah. We barely made it through this alive. Let the damn pirates keep their crap. I say we take an hour to rest, then head home for the night. No-one’s in any rush, right?
Mendax goes over to Oloric's body and mumbles a prayer from Lathander before the Half-Ogre drags the body away. "I wouldn't mind heading home for some rest and Vin and I can have some propper tea. Then we should head over to Zodge first thing in the morning and update him with what Tarina told us." He then looks over at Con and Kes and says, "unless you think the four of us should investigate these Dead-Three?"
Con shrugs. The job's to deal with the cultists. Zodge might want to know about Tarina, I guess, but mostly I reckon he wants to hear the cultist problem's been dealt with. One way or another, you know. Look, there's no need to go rushing in. We have time to scout out the place, right?
He stands up. We're all alive, and we got what we needed. It's all good. Let's go.
