As Builder clears the stairs onto the middle deck he finds it mostly cleared, the rest of the crew having ascended to the main deck for duty call. He steps over to the ropes from the hatch and begins to climb, swinging back and forth between two of the ropes to do so.
Acrobatics to Climb: 13
In the haste of the moment the warforged finds the ropes difficult to ascend. (It is a DC 10 Acrobatics or Athletics check...normally not required, but since we are in initiative order and timing matters...)
Meanwhile on the lower deck, the assailing pirates do not seem to have noticed that one of their quarry has escaped already due to the fog.
Aretta struggles against the strong hold that Varus has her in. "Le' go of me and fight like normal you ugly cur! I'm not interested in dancin'."
Acrobatics to break grapple: 19
Varus athletics to maintain: 14
But while she puts up a suprisingly squirmy struggle, her efforts are in vain.
The remaining pirates continue their bludgeoning of any of the party members they are able to locate.
Syl strikes back at Birel: Attack: 15 Damage: 2
Tam lashes out again at Ventus: Attack: 13 Damage: 2
And the other three begin groping through the fog in an attempt to find someone.

Maheem makes it out of the fog and gets to a vantage point where he can see Ventus and Tam scuffling, but is not able to join in this round.
Fipps randomly walks into Birel and attacks him from behind. Attack: 3 Damage: 2
Jape randomly wanders directly into Aretta as she is struggling against Varus, and not seeing who it is he has found, he swings widly.
Jape attacks Aretta by mistake: Attack: 13 Damage: 2
Sericea quietly inserts her dagger just below Aretta's rib cage. With a squelch and a final gasp the pirate woman falls silent. Her struggles against Varus cease.
(She is exactly at zero hp. Because you were both intentionally trying to take her down non lethally she is stable and will regain 1 hp in one hour unless someone does a DC 10 medicine check or administers healing magic before then. This is my house rule...if you intentionally take someone down non lethally the 1d4 hours roll is automatically a 1.)
(James, Ventus, and Birel still have actions...This partial update was provided since Aretta's condition changed.)

Birel decides that 2 on 1 is probably not a great idea and moves forward till she runs into the pillar before turning to her left and stumbling out of the fog. Seeing Maheem, she gets ready to dodge whatever he tries to throw at her.
Moving 10 feet forward and 15 feet to Birel's left, but on the map it's to the right then taking Dodge
Glaring at the the dwarf after he dodged the pitiful attack, replies to the dwarf’s comment: “I never knew the woman, so how would I know?” Pulling his flute out, he spat out an additional comment. “Your ancestors must be ashamed of you, because you hit like a newborn elf.”
James, starting to feel a little disoriented in the dense fog just stays where he is at for now with his back against the hull of the ship. Trying to get an idea of who or what is around him, he guesses where five feet to his left would be and makes gesture with his hands. "Lets see if this smokes someone out." James casts Prestidigitation using it to make the smell of something burning manifest in that area.
Ventus v Tam - Need another Wisdom Save (DC 12): 6 Damage (If Failed): 1
Tam simply continues to sneer at you, your magic seeming to slide off of his mind like water off of a oiled duck.

Builder - You have cleared your way to the main deck. The light shines brightly off to the East just above the horizon, and about half of the crew, save those down below involved in the scuffle, are standing about awaiting the days assignments. You can see Mr. Plugg standing near the rear of the main deck, looking annoyed that not everyone has reported already. By contrast, Master Scourge looks rather pleased with himself, until he sights you at which point his expression turns sour. *now that you are on the main deck what would you like to do?*
Varus & Sericea - As mentioned before, your captive has fallen silent and stopped struggling.
James - You hear coughing coming from your immediate left (G3) at the non-existent smoke that most exist if there is a fire. "*Cough Cough* Now the've gone and done it. The've set the bloody ship a'fire they 'ave. You fools, gonna get sweated for that you are, if you don kill us all!"
You hear the steps of a man retreating southward, apparently trying to get to the stairs and up to the main deck, away from the "flames". (Slippery Syl Lonegan moves and dashes to get up to the mid-deck).
Jaundiced Jape hears someone (Syl) travelling past him and swings out with a fist, trying to connect to something. (He seems more intent on hurting his allies than his enemies).
Attack: 13 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll.
Fipps once again finds himself lost in the fog. He knows he is against the hull of the ship, but has no idea where anyone else is, and so he randomly wanders out.
Random Walk, 1= East and rotate clockwise, reroll 6s: 3
He steps out of the fog to find he has perfectly pinchered Birel between himself and Maheem. Grinning like a madman he swings at the back of the elf's head.
Attack: 8 Damage: 2
Maheem, seeing Fipps come out of the fog smiles viciously as he times his assault to strike Birel in the gut just as Fipps swings at him from behind.
Varus looks at the dagger in Sericea's hand, then at the silent form of Arreta, then back up to Sericea. He seems to struggle with himself for a moment before speaking, "You, give me that knife. When they go looking for the one of us that hid a knife, they will find me. This one,"he shakes Arreta, "Will not want to admit being taken out by someone like you. Take this in return," he pulls a handaxe out from under his coat, passing it to Sericea, "in case they let me off easy. Otherwise... otherwise, throw my lyre overboard. It shouldn't be played by anyone else, especially not them."
"Reporting for Duty." Builder announces in a voice meant to carry across the ship. "We were waylaid by some of the other crew though, so the others might take a few minutes to get here, and I think a few of the crew might be worse for the attempt to cause us new recruits trouble."
Plugg acknowledges Builder with a nod. "Nice of you to join us. I don't much care about scuffles with the crew, so long as no one is killed or injured to the point of not being able to work. There has to be a release for you bilge rats somewhere, and it certainly can't be insubordination to your superiors."
Scourge continues to glower at Builder, but keeps his distance. He appears content to wait for the others to arrive, evidently hoping that one will be unable to make it above decks.
Sandara inches her way over to Builder though, which does cause Scourge to step forward slightly, eavesdropping on what she says to the warforged. "Is everyone okay down there? If any of your friends were hurt maybe I should go down and check..."
Scourge quickly rushes forward and grabs her by the arm before she has a chance to depart. "You know bett'r than to leave duty call before assignments have been made Sandy...Don't give me a reason to whip you tonight, it would be so much fun."
She roughly jerks her arm free of his grasp and glares at him, but her interest in heading below decks to check on the rest of the party has apparently be quashed for the moment.
(Looks like we need Sericea, Ventus, James, and Birel to decide what they are doing. Varus still has actions as well...but that will likely depend on how his convo with Sericea goes. Remember, you can get a lot conveyed in 6 seconds, but it is a short amount of time...so don't over do it. Not a whole lot of back and forth.)

Builder, seeing the reaction to the cleric's request, stays silent. He does not wish to give away anything the others might wish to have hidden, such as the use of the fog cloud spell and such.
Sericea can't see Varus clearly due to the fog, but she hears the tone in his voice. She almost blushes, as kindness has been so hard to come by since she arrived in Port Peril. But she replies in a quiet voice, "Thank you, but this dagger has saved my hide more than once, and they missed it the first time they searched for it anyway. Besides, I need you to play your lyre tonight when we celebrate!"
She hears Birel cry out, and then hears her footsteps approaching.
I am guessing Birel is at E4 or E5? If she is not on E4 then Sericea moves there.
"Let's get to the deck, but let's give the others a moment to catch up," she whispers.
Action: ready a dagger attack, trigger: an enemy getting in melee range. If she can't tell if it's an enemy, she will instinctively drop concentration on fog cloud to see.
Varus shakes his head, mildly frustrated, "I'm telling you, we're both in for a whipping this bloody hour. I'm just trying to save you from your part. Not much I can do about it if you want to kick a hornets' nest, much less play around with one like a ball. There won't be much to celebrate tonight, I'm sure."
He'll continue dragging Arreta's unconscious body up the stairs and towards the main deck.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Hearing footsteps coming up the stairs behind her Syl looks back and sees Varus carrying an unconcious Aretta on his shoulder.
"Dead?! you killed Aretta! Oh, Plugg will see you in the box for a week for that!"
Urgently wanting to get away from the suspected murderer, Syl steps back carefully and grabs the rope to climb up to the main deck.
Acrobatics to climb: (DC 10) 22 clearing the hatch you see her shouting to Plugg and Scourge from below.
"Mr Plugg! Those new ones, they killed Aretta! Oh, and I think one of them set the lower deck a blaze. Smell fire I did! And there be smoke or fog or something e'rywhere!"
Plugg scowls as he grips the handle of his ninetails tightly. "If we weren't already short handed these new recruits would better serve as bait. I've never seen a more disorderly call to duty. Scourge! Go down and see what is going on. I want to know everyone involved in this little disturbance and each of them will be getting attention tonight. And take Sandara with you, make sure no one is actually dead. Especially if someone has actually lit a bleedin' fire."
With a grimace on his face Scourge renews his grasp on Sandara's arm and leads her to the hatch to head down below. They make it to the mid deck where Varus is with Aretta this round.
Seeing Aretta unconcious across Varus' shoulder, Scourge pushes Sandara forward. "Make sure she's breathin'. If she isn't the Capt'n is going to have yer hide boy." The master at arms lets his whip hang loose, ready to defend himself if the need arises.
...
(Just realized that I never got an action this round from Ventus. I think he was planning on withdrawing, so that will change up what the pirates can do. I will hold off on the rest of the update until we see Ventus' action. In the mean time Varus can respond to Scourge as he sees fit. Also, in map news, a new color has been unlocked. Green = Friendly NPC, like Sandara)
Varus smirks slightly as Syl runs from him, but his grin fades when he sees the master at arms. He places Aretta on the deck unceremoniously, looking up at Scourge after he does so, a flat expression on his face, "She's not dead. She just came to my quarters and tried to headbutt my fist. Seems to have worked, my knuckles are a bit sore."
Evening update: Assuming Ventus is no longer in a threatened area...if he did dash he is up the stairs.
With no one to assault, Maheem, Tam, and Fipps decide that the plan has failed, and make their way to the stairs and come out on the mid deck falling in around Varus looking chagrinned as they notice Scourge down with them scowling.
All three double dash.
Maheem wipes some blood from the corner of his mouth and tries to explain himself. "Scourge, we were down in the bilge like you told us, trying to get some repairs done. When we's comin' up fer duty call these guys jumped us. One of them brought up some smoke like Peppery sometimes do. We couldn't get to duty call and it was all them."
The lie is inelegant, and clearly a fabrication...but Scourge seems to accept it at face value, or more likely knows it is false but is playing along.
"Well be that as it may, Plugg is annoyed at the ruckus and the report of a killing. So get up on deck to report, all of you! I'll go down and make sure there is no sign of fire."
The three pirates look confused at the mention of fire, having not been near enough to experience James's distraction, but they do not question and head towards the ropes to climb to the main deck. Sandara begins to move towards Aretta to assess her condition.
*At this point combat is effectively over unless you choose to continue it. Everyone has an opportunity to take 1 more round of actions if they would like before Scourge heads down stairs to investigate. All positions on the map right now are still accurate, the last lines of the post are essentially indicating what they will do next round unless you change their minds. If you decide to continue hostilities then we will keep this initiative order, but if you do what Scourge is expecting and head up to duty call then we will roll for day 2 duties tomorrow. Good job everybody...you survived your first encounter of the campaign.*
