At the end of the day the entire crew again gathers for the macabre ritual that punctuates the transition from work to recreation. Today Plugg seems particularly disappointed in the results.
"...I should really just flog all of you until your backs are flayed. Ropes scattered across the decks. Bilges in the worst shape they've been in months. Sails stuck half furled because the shrouds are gunked and jammed. Honestly I'm impressed with how quickly you all have allowed the ship to fall into shambles." There is a long pregnant pause, as if Plugg is trying to decide whether or not to throw the whole crew over.
"We don't have time to punish everyone that is deserving today...so one person will have to bear the brunt of everyone else's missteps."
2
"Rosie! It falls to you. Scourge, I think 10 lashes will do to teach the lesson. Sandara, make sure she doesn't die in the process."
Struggling against a few strong hands that grasp onto her, Rosie Cusswell is dragged kicking and screaming to the mast and the process of shackling her to the timber begins.
"I didn't do a damn thing wrong Plugg. I did my feckin' share. This is feckin' wrong and you goram know it!"
*Whippings haven't happened yet...I will give a beat in case anyone wants to respond*
"I will take the beating for the crew." Builder says, stepping forward. "I did not do my work adiquitly today and deserve to bear the responsibility for my own failing."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Plugg glowers at you, but after a moment nods his assent.
"Fine by me. It will be interesting to see if a metal man can bleed."
The others release Rosie as you walk forward unguarded and kneel against the main mast. Scourge smiles viciously as he begins to assail you with his whip.
10 lashes with the whip:
Attack: 5 Damage: 3
Attack: 17 Damage: 2
Attack: 9 Damage: 4
Attack: 8 Damage: 4
Attack: 24 Damage: 6
Attack: 5 Damage: 2
Attack: 10 Damage: 4
Attack: 13 Damage: 2
Attack: 10 Damage: 2
Attack: 12 Damage: 1
Interjected at spots in the whipping process:
As Builder falls unconcious at the 5 lash, Sandara steps in to administer healing. "Isn't that enough Plugg?""I said 10 lashes, and 10 he gets! You'll get some too if you don't shut your feckin' mouth and get out of the way."
Healing!: 8
Builder falls unconcious again on the 8th lash, requiring additional healing from the storm cleric.
Healing!: 4
After everything is said and done you have been healed twice and are currently at 6 hit points.
Bloody hour having been completed the crew heads down to find that without the help of his kitchen hand today Ambrose did not put together a very inspiring meal. Dinner consists of small portions of fatty beef and carrots that have been steamed to the point that their orange looks faded and more yellow than anything else.
Builder, Rosie finds you on the deck once she has collected your meal. "That was a fine damn thing you did for me. Didn't have to. Maybe ya'll are good people. I appreciate it anyway. Anything you need, let me know."Because you stepped up to take Rosie's place she feels indebted to you. Her attitude to the party has been improved from Friendly to Helpful. The rest of the crew also feels a grudging respect. You get advantage on all social rolls to affect their attitude for the next 48 hours.

The evening is the parties. Decide what you will be doing with your rum ration and then take whatever night time actions you choose.
This spoiler contains the names of the two party members getting extra scrutiny tonight RE rum rations and what your adjusted DC is. You can spot your tail and know if you are on the list with a DC 12 perception check of your own (I am presuming that James warned everyone at some point). Otherwise please decide what you are doing with your rum ration and make any appropriate rolls before looking in the spoiler. Varus - Scourge has been told to keep an eye on you tonight. If you attempt to tip your rum you will need to beat his active perception of 14
Okay, my rolls keep changing. Sericea and Varus...the opposed Perception checks rolls have been replaced with the results that were there when I first rolled them.
Yeah, James would have told at least his fellow captives about what he overheard Plugg and Scourge talked about as they headed down to eat. If asked where he got the information from, James would just say that a little bird told him.
While waiting for the food to be served, James will zone out for a minute to check in on Nox to see how he is doing.

Nox remains in the dark room that you found him in before...but muffled noises can be heard through the compartment's door. It seems each night at meal time the captain has the officers come into his quarters for dinner. There is a host of voices that you don't recognize or can only vaguely pair with a face you have seen busily walking across the main deck during the day. Through the door it is difficult to hear anything in particular.
Nox makes a perception check: 19
Post will continue in next post after I see the result.

Staying quiet and listening closely, Nox can make out a little bit of the muffled conversation in the Captain's quarters.
"...So there he was, facing down a Chelish battle ship. Couldn't out run 'er. Fighting would be deadly for sure. But the Captain didn't care. He ordered us to broadside her and board, just like she was some tiny merchant marine schooner. We fought hand to hand with them through all the decks, but it was clear we wouldn't be able to take and hold the ship. Lost too many crew on the initial approach to be able to sail her anywhere. So the captain orders her burned to the waves."
Loud cheers and laughter fill the room, but suddenly fall silent again as if cut off by the unseen narrator. The voice sounds familiar. The face of a red haired woman with specks of freckles on her cheeks swims through your mind. You have seen her on deck during the past few days, consulting charts and coordinating with the navigator.
"We lost a lot of good people on that raid. But so did Cheliax. Ultimately it was just me, the captain, and Caulky there that made it out. Oh and Ambrose, but I think he was sleeping through most of the battle, drunk ol' fool."
The crowd erupts in laughter again, but then you hear the Captain's voice cut through it like a knife.
"Lost too many we did. Thas why this crew be so green. Had to promote Plugg to first mate seeing there were none of the crew left. Sent him and Caulky out to press us a new one once we limped back to Peril. We might of bruised the Chels, but they bloodied us bad. It will be a day before we tangle with one of them ships again." His voice sounds thoughtful and intent. A completely different manner than your first impression from when he addressed the crew and essentially said he wanted nothing to do with any of you.

Varus takes his meal and rum, swishing around the dark liquid before peering cautiously around himself to see if anyone is watching.
Perception: 18
Noticing Scourge eyeing him from across the room, Varus downs the rum in a single go, making a large motion to make sure the boatswain sees it. Then, feeling a bit bolder, he wanders the ship, searching for Arreta.
Advantage on Charisma checks lasts for 8 hours.
"You didn't seem too satisfied with our last... encounter." He pauses to grin, a bit viciously, "Why don't you give it another go? I'll even give you a handicap: two swings for free."
Sericea is impressed when Builder steps forward to take the punishment. It's hard for her to watch, due to Scourge's cruel enjoyment of the lashing. Builder's compassion contrasted with Scourge's viciousness fills her with resentment of the evil man.
When dinner begins, she goes to thank Builder. Seeing his joints still stiff from the damage, she rests her hand on his shoulder. She is startled to feel a sensation of power flowing through her arm into Builder, as she again feels a righteous anger as the wrongdoing.
OOC: Sericea casts Cure Wounds for the first time: 4 healed
Afterwards, as she chews the rubbery beef, she tries to connect her experiences. The dreams of the deep sea, the control over water and wind, and now the ability to heal... something was calling to her... there was some purpose for this power. She resolves to keep her wits about herself to find out what it was.
After dinner when she's handed her rum, she pretends to take a few sips, but then jumps up and yells for someone to strike up a tune. She sings a song about a pirate who fails at everything he tries (adapted from a Port Peril tune about a local ne'er-do-well). When she gets to the last verse, about how the lad even fails to die at sea by washing up on an island paradise, she makes sure to slosh her cup around vigorously.
Nighttime action: entertain. Seri is less trying to impress and more trying to dispose of her rum. I'll roll for the performance but can make additional rolls if needed.
Performance (exhausted) 10
Regardless of the results of the performance, she plans to go to bed early to sleep off ability damage.
Partial update since I am here...still waiting for other night time actions, so will not move on to dawn just yet.
Birel: After you dump your rump into an available piss pot, you turn to find yourself face to face with Syl Lonegan, the female rigger that you were exchanging blows with yesterday morning. She smiles widely at you. "Plugg's gonna find it real intrestin', you dumpin' rum. Suppose ta drink tha, not waste it Pointy." She turns and walks away in search of Plugg. You might have an opportunity to catch up with her and try to prevent her from snitching if you desire to do so.
Builder: Despite the gesture you made on deck earlier this evening, it seems most of the people that you try to sit down with are nervous about getting on Mr. Plugg's bad side. During the meal at least you find no one that is willing to converse with you. (On future social rolls please indicate who specifically you are targeting or what attitude level you are targetting before rolling. For example: Try to get someone from friendly to helpful, or Builder approaches Jack Scrimshaw with the requested tools. Future attempts to influence others without designating a target will automatically fail. This one could have gotten a friendly to helpful...but I wasn't sure who/what specifically you were trying to do. This is a decision that should be made before the results of the roll are seen. Otherwise this is effectively the same as making an attack roll and then choosing the target whose AC the roll will hit.)
Varus:Aretta appears to have been successfully cowed from your previous engagement. At first she attempts to avoid you, but when you finally corner her and offer a rematch she avoids eye contact and does nothing to show aggression. "Thas...thas fine. Maybe another time. I...um...Its my turn to toss in Hog Lob. Got to go!" She ducks past you and hurries over to another corner of the ship where a game of Hog Lob is already in progress. Also at that game are Maheem and Jaundiced Jape, two of the largest of her little group. She was probably going to them for safety in numbers more than anything else. (Aretta's attitude has been successfully adjusted from Hostile to Unfriendly).
Sericea: I like your attempt to dump tonight. I am going to say that it will require Scourge to make an insight check against your performance check, instead of perception. Let's see how he does.
6
Scourge sprouts a rare smile as you begin to sing what happens to be one of his favorite songs from Port Peril. He cheers and claps in rhythm along with the rest of the crew, and while it is not one of your finest performances, it serves the purpose of distracting him enough that he does not notice that you have accidentally intentionally spilt your rum.
This does count as an entertain the crew action for your night time action...so you don't actually get to go to bed early and heal 2 points of exhaustion and 2 ability damage, but you can go to bed now and heal one of each if you don't want to stay up for mid-watch actions.
****
For the rest, waiting on night time actions from Ventus...and James hasn't taken one yet. Also don't forget you can do mid-watch actions if you want at the risk of getting points of exhaustion from staying up late.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Feeling that Nox is safe for now, James will come back to his senses to find the disappointing meal before him. He halfheartedly eats the meal, consuming mostly the carrots and what meat he can tear off from the fat. Not wanting to push what luck he has had so far, James will reluctantly drink the rum.
Con save against addiction: 12 advantage on all Charisma based skill checks for the next 1 hours
James just sits at the table for some time contemplating his choices on this ship as he glares into the now empty cup. Wondering how many of them were really involved with the slaughter of his former shipmates. Perhaps it was only the captain and his officers that are the only ones left that were involved, or it still could be the entire crew. He has no way of knowing for sure until he can get some answers. Turing the cup over, he places it hard on the table and scans the room trying pick out someone that might know something. He remembers seeing that one of the other swabs, Cog he thinks, had scars from some fights. Getting up from his seat, James will go and try find Cog.
Night action, influence Cog by asking about his scars:10Persuasion "So, what fights were you in that you got those scars from?"

Cog's attitude successfully changed from indifferent to friendly.
"Des? Tavern brawls mostly. Lost tha ear when some feller decided it would make a good snack in the middle of a fist fight. Knocked him to the ground before he got to finish it, but there was no putting it back at tha point." He lifts his tunic and shows of one particularly nasty white line running across his ribs from top to bottom. "This one happened when a lass in tha port found out about a differen' lass in a differn' port. She didn't take kindly."He shrugs nonchalantly. "Its a rough life being so ruggedly handsome. Lasses, they like tha scars...and sometimes they provide more. Some lads collect gold, others tattoos. Seems my lot in life is to collect notches in my skin. How bout choo? What choo collect?"

Varus yawns as Arreta retreats, somewhat satisfied that she'll stay out of his way for the moment. He decides to call it a night at this point, heading down to his quarters to sleep.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Ventus drinks his rum, and then decides to talk with one of his fellow riggers, Barefoot Sammy Toppin. “So why is it you walk everywhere without shoes? Do you simply not have any?”
Samms looks at you and smiles, admiring your strong muscular form. "Oh, aye, I have boots well enough for when I go ashore...but it seems foolhardy to wear them when we be out ta sea. Nothin' quite like the cool feel of the deck under your feet. And the sway of the ocean translatin' up through the rockin' of the boat and from yer soles all the way into your soul. A pair a boots would just be gettin in the way of all tha then. Besides, if I were wearin' boots I wouldn't be as nimble when I danced. Wouldja like to dance with me ya strappin man?"
Barefoot Samms Toppin's attitude has been adjusted from indifferent through friendly and all the way to helpful thanks to that excellent roll. She also seems to have taken a particular liking to Ventus.
She stands up and heads towards the center of the mid-deck, looking back over her shoulder and through her dark hair at Ventus with a knowing grin and a hand stretched out in invitation.

Taking the proffered hand, Ventus gets up from his seat. “Only a fool would refuse such an offer from a beautiful woman like yourself.”He grins at his dance partner. “And I am far from a fool.”

"Ship to ship battles? Eh, once or twice. Brutal things them...sailors fighting other sailors as the sea round them turns red. Dey say our capt'n is known to be vicious on the battle of the waves. I guess we will find out when we find a ship to plunder eh?"
Cog relates to you the last time he was in a battle on the open waves. It was several months ago, before he joined the crew of the Wormwood. He had been hired on as muscle for a merchant marine ship that was smuggling goods along the coast of Thuvia and down into Osirion. A ship from the chelish navy violated Thuvian waters to give them chase and a small skirmish was fought before they could get away. You make friendly conversation about his adventures on the Whistling Portmaster, but quickly realize that he could not have been on the Wormwood when your ship was attacked.
Ventus:
You and Samms dance to a trio of peppy sea shanties that various crew members sing or play. Towards the end she pulls you in and gives you a kiss on the cheek.
"Thank you for the dance mine zephyr. You are spritely and nimble on your feet, rarely have I had a better partner while at sea. Perhaps we will partner again, in dance...or in other activities." She gives you a mischievous wink, but turns and walks away to her hammock before you have an opportunity to respond.
By my reckoning that is everyone's evening action resolved, yes? A few haven't declared that they are heading to rest yet. Is anyone taking any mid-watch actions tonight or shall we move on to the next day?
DragonDenn, I would like an Arcana check from Builder as he "rests" this evening. I will explain more depending on the result.

Persuasion/Intimidation (same mod): 22
Perception check to notice Plugg/Scourge: 8
Varus: Aretta appears to have been successfully cowed from your previous engagement.

He halfheartedly eats the meal, consuming mostly the carrots and what meat he can tear off from the fat. Not wanting to push what luck he has had so far, James will reluctantly drink the rum.

Sericea goes to bed after her routine, removing her last exhaustion level, and going down to 3 con damage.
She will try to return Ventus's coin purse tomorrow.
She didn't take kindly." He shrugs nonchalantly.

“Only a fool would refuse such an offer from a beautiful woman like yourself.” He grins at his dance partner. “And I am far from a fool.”
"It feels like I'm only collecting lashes on this ship." James says with a chuckle. "I actually use to collect little wood carvings whenever I visited a new place, but those are all gone now. Have you ever been in a ship fight before?"
