After a few minutes you see the figures bump into each other, grab hands, and walk slowly by the moonlight back to the woods that they came from. You all finish the night with restful sleep.
The morning comes too quickly but you all feel rested. Kelpos is already hard at work and beckons for you to help.
As you begin to wake up you notice that the sun begins to grow darker, it becomes merely a faint light, until it is ultimately extinguished. Birds begin to fly back to their nests, and you hear the crickets begin their song. You see the stars and heavens in their fullest extent, but, In a matter of moments the sun sparks back to life, and the world returns to normal.
Grimnir finishes repairing the gunwale on one of the ships, drops the hammer he was working with gently onto the centre thwart, and heaves himself off the boat with a slight splash into the shallow water where the boats are aground.
He lumbers, exhausted towards the sounds of music and finds Guido nestle beneath the boughs of the tree, reciting a ballad for him.
Grimnir grins slightly from one side of his mouth as he plops down opposite the bard, with his back against the trunk.
"I'm not a deserter...if that's what you're thinking..."
He produces a wineskin as if from nowhere and takes in a few mighty gulps, spilling the liquid haphazardly down his long, dark beard. With a loud belch, he breathes out and wipes up the remaining drink from his mouth with his bulging, olive forearm.
"...It's not that I owe you an explanation..." he continues "...but I owe it to myself to not passively be labelled a traitor."
He pulls in his trunk-like legs towards his torso, resting his arms on his knees, still clutching the wineskin.
"War...it changes people...robs them of a little bit of themselves every instance..."
Taking another drink from the skin and repeating the process of brutish table etiquette, he looks off into the distance at the sea squinting his eyes.
"My lord commander was a good man. Like a father to me...better, really..." His eyes narrow as he turns to face Guido. "But the business of killing took its toll on him."
"He changed, became more ruthless, more ambitious..." His words begin to quicken and become almost erratic. "It was during the second week of a pitched battle against the Levantine forces in Beyrun. The forces of Vesci, we were dying in droves. It's like they were always a step ahead of us...knew where our troops were going to be moving before we did."
He takes in a deep breath before he continues, pausing only briefly to have another drink from the wineskin.
"Arnolt, a boy who was drafted from a flea-bottom village, barely old enough to even pick up a sword...we were out in the field hunting for quail, as our provisions were running short. The dumb bastard...He didn't realize they were ground quarry, he was shooting arrows at anything he saw in the sky. Before I could convince him otherwise, he felled what we thought was a starling. It was a raven, sent from my Lord Commanderto the Levantine Captain, informing them of how many men we had, where we were going next, and talk of payment to him for proper service."
Grimnir drops his head and his voice trembles slightly as he says, "I slit his throat whilst he slept that same evening. That is my crime. Though, in Vaseci, the story goes that I killed my Lord Commander and deserted our forces behind enemy lines."
Grimnir sits motionless for a few seconds after hearing Guido's words. He takes a final gulp from the wineskin and begins to lightly chuckle.
After a moment he is laughing outright, slowly and rhythmically thumping the back of his head against the trunk of the tree they sit beneath.
"I think I'll have them sing it at my execution," he retorts sardonically.
He lets out another round of thunderous laughter before slowly standing to his feet and trotting off towards another tree, drunkenly, to relieve himself.
Right as you say that you see a figure emerging from the tree lines in the distance. Maybe a half mile away you see a large humanoid figure running toward you, limping badly, visibly bloody and looking as if it is in significant pain. Only moments after he exits the trees you see several large shapes, with pale gray skin, pounce on the man. He is engulfed by the attack and disappears underneath the pile of their bodies.
Varis continues working alongside Kelpos, asking questions of what needs to be done and how to do it if necessary. He avoids making the dreaded small talk and keeps everything repair related.

Grimnir finishes his business at the other tree and peers inquisitively over his shoulder at the clamoring sounds coming from the tree-line. He squints his eyes a bit, furrowing his heavy, arched brow.
Perception roll: 13
Sensing something is amiss, he moves towards a pile of his personal belongings, grabbing his shield in his left hand. He carefully wraps the leather strap on its interior around his meaty forearm and then grabs the handle of his longsword with a jerking motion that sends the scabbard off in the opposite direction.
"Be sure to include a verse about how I crushed this enemy with a belly full of mead, bard."

Just as your vision becomes tunneled and you feel the adrenaline filling your stomach, you hear Kelpos call out; "We go now er' we'll be torn tah bits just like Ol' Colbourn!" He jumps on deck and with the help of Colter Jana and Pafaren they prepair one of the larger ships.
Grimnir spits on the ground in frustration, then quickly grabs his remaining gear and leaps over the edge of the boat, joining the others. He grabs a set of oars, pausing only to ensure everyone else is onboard.

You see about half of the orcs fall flat on their faces asleep. There are 4 larger ones that stand up tall and give a loud scream at you. It is deafening and terrifying. After the scream subsides you hear Kelpos barking orders to the others.
Odd. Hey man, sorry I missed that post. If I ever miss a post just give me a shout out in a spoiler. My bad! Back to the action!

A ear piercing blast of sound erupts from the group, throwing them off of the body of Colbourn, which lies motionless. The 4 Large Orcs start to stand up and dust themselves off, while the smaller ones lay motionless. They lock their eyes onto you and start running. they are a ways off in the distance, but are closing quick. Kelpos, Colter, Jana, and Pafaren are all now screaming for you to board the ship.

You blast one of the Large Orcs with your magic projectile, and it stumbles for a moment, but springs back to it's feet and continues chasing after Guido.
Guido
You begin trying to catch the ship as Kelpos and the crew start to pull away. Colter has lowered a knotted rope off the side for you to grab onto. The Orcs are within 50 yards of you by this point. You hear Kelpos Shouting "boy we gotta get movin' now!"
Roll an athletics for running through shallow water to catch the boat and an acrobatics for the leap to reach the rope.
Even at though they seem to be pretty far off, you launch the spear at one of the Orcs. It connects and gets stuck in the orcs shoulder. He smiles and pulls it out, he let's out a scream and continues his pursuit. You get the impression that these orcs much higher ranking, and older than the younglings you have faced.
