"Very well." Raven says with a shrug. "I was not there when the first group got to the the scene, so will step back from any further questions." She steps back from the podium.
Elwin had started to get annoyed at the proceedings. All this just to punish someone? Still, it made sense that testimony was needed.
"My name is Elwin Cold, of Slate City" he began, emphasizing his still-new last name. "And the incident happened just as Good Del said." He then proceeded to tell the same story from his own perspective, occasionally getting a bit long-winded about the fight, and his specific attacks and tactics during it.
Finishing, he pointed to Lemmet. "Bottom line--he was the one we saw run away. Him and the satyrs."
Quentin goes last introducing himself as, "Lord Quentin Adiyodi of the Ellentar Court." He then goes through his events of the day, leaving out the finding out of the Hat of Disguise. He does go into detail about the deal made with the Nacia's and how they did not seemed concerned, nor where the satyrs, with the missing individuals.
After Mindartis testifies, she asks."Mindartis Liadon, you are from the Feywild, are you not? May I ask what you do when you are not...focusing on killing things?"
To Elwin she remarks, "Another from Slate City. May I ask what part of the city? Did you know Galanodel Tosh before you came to Lomalos?"

Lady Rayna accepts your answers with no further comment. She seems strangely excited to interview Quentin.
"It is an honor to have a noble of the Ellantar court visit us," she says. "However, none of us know you personally, Lord Quentin. Are you aware that there are disturbing rumors on the street that you might not be who you say you are? After all, it would be perfectly simple for some evil highwayman to attack the real Lord Quentin on his journey, steal his signet ring and other proofs of identity, and masquerade as a noble in an unfamiliar town. Wouldn't you agree....Bloody Mithven the Red-Handed?" she finishes pointing at you with a dramatic gesture and an expression of pure triumph. The courtroom is dead silent.

After a few minutes, whispering among the spectators gets louder and louder, until the judge pounds on his desk, demanding that the court come to order. That seems to snap the prosecutor out of a stunned silence, and he yelps, "I object! Street rumors are no basis for such an accusation against a guest in this kingdom, especially one of noble blood!"
"If he is," Rayna mutters.
"The defense is merely trying to smear the witnesses! I demand that the last statement be stricken from the record!"
The judge looks hesitant. "I've heard rumors as well," he mutters.
Lord Flaniet shouts "Unsubstantiated rumors! Do you have any proof of this outrageous claim?"
"Maybe," says Rayna. "Does HE have any proof that he's really not Mithven the Red-Handed? Does anybody here know him? Have even his friends met his family or visited his mansions in Ellantar?"
Lord Flaniet snorts. "Can YOU prove you're not a goblin changeling? I want to see documentation!"

After a few moments the judge says, "Unless you have some evidence, Lady Rayna, the accusation must be withdrawn."

"This is a disgrace." Raven says with an angry look around the room. "I am a citizen of this city, and I feel ashamed at the way this court is allowing this woman to sidetrack a simple case with accusations and with witnesses that do not even appear to be real." She stares straight at the judge. "Regardless of the Elf Lord's identity, or my own testimony, are you truly going to allow her to muddy this and change it from a trial of the one actually on trial here, to a trial of us instead? is she going to come up with more things to accuse the other members of this group with as well?"
Elwin didn't even bother to stand back up or look at the judge.
"Does it really matter if he's some fancy 'Lord?' Is that the kind of justice you people deliver here... one set of rules for yourselves, the rest for the common folk? Interesting way of doing business, but not unfamiliar. Rather shameful, really. The fact is... it changes NOTHING about the situation."
At this point he finally stood again, pointing again at Lemmet as he did. "It is STILL the case, that Good Del and I were the ones who spotted this man fleeing from a den of moonshine. I challenge anyone to prove that even if Quentin were a devil from the lower planes, that it would change that!"
"Also," he added as an afterthought, turning to Lady Rayna. "My fair lady--" the tone was dripping with indignant disappointment, "--perhaps your so-called witness realized he couldn't dispute this either, which is why he's fled the courtroom?"

After Del's speech, you hear a voice shout "That's right! Funny way for highwaymen to act, saving the students and fighting monsters!" It's Teydaar. You can see him standing up next to his grandfather across the room, among a group of oddly-dressed people who seem to be from the Simul family...or at least from the Academy, since there are a few non-elves among them.
Lord Flaniet stands up from leaning over Captain Kibble and says, "The Captain of the Queen's Guard tells me that last night, these heroes caught and killed the kidnapper who has been preying on the children of Lomalos! Surely my esteemed colleague would not wish to besmirch the reputations of these traveling saints." Glaring at his young cousin, he whispers to you, "I don't suppose you could have left him to claim ONE more victim..."
Raven's outburst gets a less friendly reaction, a couple of the Naica family jeering, and pointing out, "You're not in the Free City! You're in the kingdom now!"
Elwin's speech quiets a lot of the whispering as people look at him with respect, and seem to take his words seriously.
The judge has been pounding on his desk throughout all this noise, and when it is quiet enough to be heard, he says, "There will be a brief recess while Lord Reglan is found." He stands up and walks over to confer with the King.
"Better than street theater," says Beezger happily. "It's almost a pity that this is the royal court. In the lower court, they'd be throwing eggs and vegetables by now. But you do get to see all the nobility on display. Oh, but most of you are new to Lomalos, aren't you? Well, you know the Simuls and the Naicas. Those are the Aldalires over there..." He gestures toward a group of dark-haired, sharp-featured, shrewd-faced nobles. Both the attorneys share a resemblance with them. Their clothes aren't flashy or ornate, but extremely well tailored, and Lord Quentin can feel in his pores how very, very expensive they are. They look like what the Naicas are trying hard to appear to be. "Those are the Vithans." He points to a group of straight-backed nobles, many with fair or red hair, many sharing the judge's stocky build and seemingly permanent expression of moral outrage. "Those are the Lithelons, the King's family." Seated behind the King are a group of calm, unremarkable, and frankly, the most normal-seeming group in this room.
"And of course, that's King Celairatar himself, and next to him the eldest son, Prince Lintelér, then Princess Anarórë and the youngest, Prince Kalrondo." The eldest prince is studying a thick law book and has been paying intense attention to the trial. He shares his father's long, dusty-brown hair. The two next to him have more intense, short and wavy auburn hair, and far less interest in the proceedings. The princess has been staring ahead with a fixed, polite expression and slightly glazed eyes, and the younger prince has made no effort to hide his boredom. Now they are chatting quietly among themselves. "The Queen isn't here. She might be patrolling with the guards, or she might just have skipped. She hates political things. I think that must be where Prince Kalrondo gets his temperament, to be honest."
As you sit, there is a disturbance as a side door opens and you hear outraged muttering and even a few shrieks. "Out a the way, out a the way, comin' through.
