Elemoth takes one of the proffered bottles and turns it around in his hand, cocking his head as he inspects it. "Thank you for this wonderful gift, Mr. Durnan, but may I ask what it is?" Elemoth asks, finally looking up from the bottle to the tavernkeeper as he realizes that it probably won't be easy to figure it out on his own. On the inside, he thinks the same thing that Flame just spoke aloud, but keeps quiet, thinking that he'll get the answer to that as soon as Durnan replies to the Tabaxi.
Durnan looks over to Flame a bit confused with the question: "I'ma' bartender. What do I look like?" He then turns towards Elemoth and says: "Ah, yer all new at this aren't 'cha. These'r potions a' healin'. 'Portant things these are, so ya' best keep 'em both handy n' safe." He then turns back, once again, to cleaning glasses.
"Thank you for your... hospitality," Marion says, with a bit of a feigned tone. The barkeep gives off the vibe of an uninvited guest to her. "I need to tend to my wounds an clean my clothes from all the blood and dirt." She puts the potion in a satchel on her belt and proceeds upstairs, taking a room right above the portal if possible. "Easily in the top 3 wierdest days of my life."
Flame squints his eyes in confusion and suspicion, but exhaustion gets the better of him and he decides not to push further. He sighs in resignation, takes one of the potions, and makes his way to a room to pass out for the night.
"Ah yes, I thought they might be, but wasn't quite sure. Thank you again, Mister Durnan." Elemoth replies, nodding. "Well then, I suppose I'll head upstairs to rest then." he continues, gathering his mace and shield from a table he'd left them on, and his healing kit as well. After all those are safely stowed, he heads upstairs, and into a room. Along the way he checks to see if there's anything to use to wash off or otherwise clean himself and his gear.
Shadow is in somewhat of a daze after everything that has transpired. "What is this guy? What is this city? I need sleep." He eyed the bottle of liquid on the counter, "Thank you sir, I appreciate this gift. Well see you lot in the morning." Shadow gives the group a half-hearted wave, and heads off to the first open room he can find. "I haven't felt this tired in a long time." As soon as he hits the bed, he is dead asleep.

Interlude 1: The Council of Waterdeep
You are roused from your fitful sleep by the sound of trumpets blaring. You immediately open your window and you see a trumpeter and a crier, both of whom are on horseback. They face the tavern, while in the background the reconstruction of the last attack has already begun, mages lift heavy objects while gnomes operate great machines that simultaneously hammer in the large planks and slabs onto the ruined houses. The crier clears his throat and shouts out: “HEAR YE! HEAR YE! ALL THOSE WHO HAVE SOME EXPERIENCE IN THE WAY OF ADVENTURING, ARE LOOKING TO MAKE MONEY, OR ARE SEEKING TO HELP WATERDEEP ARE REQUESTED BY LADY LAREAL SILVERHAND! MEET WITH HER IN…” The crier pauses and looks up at the sky, only to then continue. “ER… AN HOUR AND A HALF!”
The crier and the trumpeter continue down the broken cobblestone street, dodging piles of twigs, ancient rotting bodies, scorch marks, and acid splotches. Meanwhile, you look around and you notice that all of the items that you consider your own have been hung up in the closet, how they got there you have no idea. You also notice that a small menu has appeared on the desk, as you look it over it presents the options for breakfast, which apparently is to be served downstairs.
The Yawning Portal Breakfast All meals are served with a cup of ale (black-briar) or orange juice (a copper piece extra) and a side of toast Meal One: Pork Sausages with Lathander's Eggs, eleven copper Meal Two: Flapjacks with Elven Mist-Syrup, sixteen copper Meal Three: Goat-Milk Yogurt and Neverwinter Oats, two copper Meal Four: Amn Watered Eggs with Baldur's Muffins and Axefish, twenty-six copper
Shadow has never had a good night's sleep since the incident, but last night was particularly strange. That voice. That cursed voice. He just can't get it's echoing word out of his mind. Then something loud shook him from his sleep. Still on edge from the day before, he immediately jumps to his feet. He lets out a huge sigh when he realizes the sound is just the bellowing of trumpets. Shadow walked over to the window to inspect.
“HEAR YE! HEAR YE! ALL THOSE WHO HAVE SOME EXPERIENCE IN THE WAY OF ADVENTURING, ARE LOOKING TO MAKE MONEY, OR ARE SEEKING TO HELP WATERDEEP ARE REQUESTED BY LADY LAREAL SILVERHAND! MEET WITH HER IN AN HOUR AND A HALF!”
"Hmm interesting, I wonder if Flame would be interested in making some coin. I mean we really have no other occupation or current residence, so it will be hard for him to say." Shadow looks out the window for a few minutes, enjoying the scenery, while watching the rebuilding take place. Maybe this could be home after all.
Shadow turns around and take a moment to observe the room, as he did not notice much last night. Strangely all of his belongings are neatly organized and there is also this strange menu sitting on a table. He takes a peek and notices it is for breakfast. "Yes! It has felt like an eternity since I've eaten last!" Shadow gets dressed and gathers all his belongings, making sure to has his weapons ready. After a day like yesterday he can't be certain that we won't get attacked again. He heads downstairs, and sits at the bar.
"Morning barkeep! I'll take breakfast number four, and an orange juice, please." Shadow orders the most expensive meal, because he feels he has earned some kind of reward for the heroics done yesterday. "Hopefully everyone gets down soon, I'm eager for some conversation." Shadow takes out a pipe and lights it. It is so black, that no light seems to reflect off of it's surface. As he blows smoke, the clouds seem to form the shape of skulls.
Flame may as well have been dead to the world. Overcome by a sleep filled with strange dreams, he was confused when heard the sound of a trumpet. "Errrg what is it now?"He sits up groggily and stretches as the events from yesterday come flooding back into his mind. Sleep may have helped alleviate some of the exhaustion, but nothing takes away the screams of burning children.
“HEAR YE! HEAR YE! ALL THOSE WHO HAVE SOME EXPERIENCE IN THE WAY OF ADVENTURING, ARE LOOKING TO MAKE MONEY, OR ARE SEEKING TO HELP WATERDEEP ARE REQUESTED BY LADY LAREAL SILVERHAND! MEET WITH HER IN ER...AN HOUR AND A HALF!”
"I can't believe we need money so badly. I guess I should find Shadow."
As he gets out of bed, he notices everything is neat and ordered. It certainly wasn't that way when he flung everything off to take a hot bath the night before. The menu catches his eye and he realizes he is absolutely famished. He licks his lips as he dresses and heads downstairs, tail flicking back and forth excitedly at the thought of a hot meal. When he gets downstairs, he sees Shadow and takes a seat next to him. "I'll take the sausage and eggs, thanks. With orange juice, please. Sleep well, brother? I can't believe we made it through yesterday."
Elemoth trudges slowly downstairs, dressed in the off-white underclothes he wears under his chainmail with the amulet of Lathander still hanging over his shirt. His hair is a bit bedraggled, but looks to have been briefly combed until it's halfway presentable. He's not wearing any of his adventuring gear except for his mace, which is stowed in a holder on his belt. Regarding the room with slightly bloodshot eyes, he shuffles over to where the 2 Tabaxi are (who are some of the only people he sort of knows at the inn) and regards them with a silent nod before walking to the barkeep. "I'll have meal one AND three please." he mumbles, slapping the copper coins onto the bar. "Yes.. and also both the ale AND the juice." he says with a soft sigh, before turning to regard the brothers again. "Do you mind if I sit here too?" he asks, slightly slouching as he lowers his head to look at the two seated cat-men.
He's such a mess, that anyone who ever worked with him or for him back at the manor would probably be aghast, but at this point he doesn't seem to care much at all, which probably says something about how terrible the previous day's events must have been for him. In the back of his mind, the vision from Lathander he had replays itself, and he wonders if the announcement outside would have anything to do with that. Elemoth has served Lathander for years now, and he had literally never had any signs or messages from his god that were this strong or overt. He even saw an angel in the flesh, and one that was captured no less, and probably needed rescue. The odd dream he had the previous night was very strange too. Almost like an overheard conversation between 2 devils or other evil supernatural beings.
Marion rubs her temples after awaking. "Was that the voice of the floating skull in my dream?" Letting out a sigh, she proceeds to dress heself. "I need more information. Who could know about-" Her thoughts are interupted by the crier outside:
“HEAR YE! HEAR YE! ALL THOSE WHO HAVE SOME EXPERIENCE IN THE WAY OF ADVENTURING, ARE LOOKING TO MAKE MONEY, OR ARE SEEKING TO HELP WATERDEEP ARE REQUESTED BY LADY LAREAL SILVERHAND! MEET WITH HER IN…”
"Lady Silverhand, hm? She must know more about what happened." After finishing her morning routine, she goes downstairs and sits next to the cleric. "Sausages and eggs please. With juice," she says to Durnan. Facing Elemoth and the cat brothers she says: "Crazy evening, huh? Any word yet on what exactly transpired yesterday?"
(OOC I'm out of town and willl have limited access to a computer so I will follow by mobile but probably not post as much.)
Torment joins the group downstairs, ordering a simple breakfast of oats and yogurt looking very refreshed after a long sleep and warm bath. "I'm assuming you all heard the crier's announcement?"
Shadow turns to see the somewhat disheveled Elemoth, "Not much of a morning person, are you Elemoth?" Shadow lets out a laugh and pats Flame on the shoulder. "Please, sit down, enjoy some breakfast, we are alive after all! I can't believe last night actually happened!"
Shadow turns and sees the wizard from the day before as she sits down. "Good morning mage! I don't think actually got your name yesterday, the name's Veil of Shadows, and this here is my brother, Flame of the Spirit, but you can just call us Shadow and Flame." Shadow extends a paw to shake hands with Marion.
Shadow finishes his food, and stands up to look around the bar just as Torment makes her way downstairs."I'm assuming you all heard the crier's announcement?" Shadow is staring into space, focusing too much on smoking his pipe. "Ohh, excuse me, yes I did hear it, sounds like quite the opportunity to make some good coin. Would you all be interested in the quest as well? Shadow lets out a large puff of smoke that forms into one large skull for just a moment then fades away.
The barkeep looks over the bar, continuing to clean his mugs as he glances down at the coins only to push them back and grumble: "Free room and board. As for the meal tell tha' ta' Kelsie." Immediately upon saying that a woman bursts through the backroom of the inn. She has a kind face, one that you would associate with a mother. She goes over behind the bar, plants a kiss on Durnan's cheek only for him to grumble in response. She then looks over at all of you and speaks in a soft but assertive manner (think diner waitress) "So what can I get cha'll for today? Y'all look tired n' Durnan's already told me of yer 'situation' so feel free to order whatever you'd like." As she listens diligently, she takes each and every one of your orders down (for the sake of posting we need not repeat them). "Well that looks like some mighty fine meals that I'll be makin' this mornin', I'll see ya' in a jiffy. Love ya' hun." She then gives Durnan another kiss on the cheek (and subsequently more grumbles [he seems to like to grumble] but with a bit of a blush behind his mustache). Meanwhile, you begin to hear wonderful music being played from behind you as you see an elegant human performer stands on top of the stage, strumming a lute while singing a beautiful song.
Our heroes, our heroes Claim warriors' hearts I tell you, I tell you The Adventurers come
With old sacred powers Of the ancient lost arts Believe, believe, The Adventurers come
It's an end to the evil Of all Faerun's Foes Beware, beware The Adventurers come
For the darkness has passed And the legend yet grows You'll know, you'll know The Adventurers' come
(Please don't sue me Bethesda, I just love your fantasy songs)
The performer then takes a bow and goes over to you all around the bar. As you get a closer look at her you see that she is absolutely stunning, at any rate, she begins to speak in a mesmerizing voice: "Hiya! Pleasure to meet you all. I'm Pencheska, oh you all look so braver up close, and stronger too... oh, I'm sorry I just started daydreaming for a moment. Anyway, I wanted to thank you all, you saved my life back there last night. If you hadn't come in and destroyed those twig things why, I don't know what I would've done!" She gains a forlorn look before you see her catch Durnan's watchful judging eye. "Well. I best be getting back to my job, thank you all so much for everything that you have done. You're all such brave heroes." After Pencheska leaves Kelsie immediately comes in and is holding several trays along her arms, sliding each one out to its respective owner along with their drink of choice. To Shadow, she passes down what looks like a small circular piece of toast with an egg with the yolk trapped inside (poached) and a pink fish on top, all glazed with an appetizing yellow sauce. To Flame, a plate of sausages and eggs which have been made to have the yolk straight up facing the sky surrounded by the white (Sunny-Side Up). To Elemoth she hands quite a bit, with both Flame's plate and a nice bowl of yogurt and granola topped off with some of the current in-season fruits to make it a far more lively dish. Lastly to Marion and Torment she gives the same meals that I described to the other characters. She then finishes it off by saying: "If there's anything else you'd be needin' don't hesitate to ask. I'll just be 'round servin' the other customers."
And with that, roleplay away! If nobody posts within say... 12 hours of the last post then I'll move it along and say that an hour passes in between.
After the greetings and ordering, Flame looks at Elemoth. "I suppose we have your god to thank for our survival. Tell him thank you for me." Just then, music starts up from behind and Flame turns around to see what's going on.
Our heroes, our heroes Claim warriors' hearts I tell you, I tell you The Adventurers come

If a cat could blush, Flame would be blushing. He can't take his eyes off Pencheska as she walks away. His mouth hangs partially open until he says "By the gods, I have never seen a creature so...heavenly! (The angel from the previous day is completely gone from his mind.) He turns around quickly. "Durnan, who is that woman?"
Shadow turns to so Flame practically drooling over this woman. "Geez Flame, get a room!" Shadow gives flame a clap on the back. "Here, I got ya brother." Shadow gets up and walks over to Pencheska. "Excuse me ma'am, my brother over there seems to think you have fallen from the heavens, he thinks you are a quite stunning woman." Shadow turns around and gives Flame a wink. "Anyway, you have quite the voice there. Are you going to be performing again soon?"
Flame tries his best to hide behind literally anything, realizes there is nowhere to go, then sheepishly waves toward Shadow and Pencheska. "What a dick."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Marion shakes the offered paw. "Pleased to meet you. I'm..." She glances over at Durnan and remembers his gaze yesterday. "Marion Black! Yes! That is my name." She puts on a forced grin.
Deception: 2
Shadow finishes his food, and stands up to look around the bar just as Torment makes her way downstairs."I'm assuming you all heard the crier's announcement?" Shadow is staring into space, focusing too much on smoking his pipe. "Ohh, excuse me, yes I did hear it, sounds like quite the opportunity to make some good coin. Would you all be interested in the quest as well? Shadow lets out a large puff of smoke that forms into one large skull for just a moment then fades away.
"I'd be interested in meeting Lady Silverhand and hear what she has to offer."
"Well yes, I'm not much of a morning person today." Elemoth replies to Shadow, taking a seat next to the brothers. "And honestly, I can't believe it happened either."
As Durnan pushes his coins back, Elemoth takes them back with a nod, and gives them to Kelsie as she arrives.
After the greetings and ordering, Flame looks at Elemoth. "I suppose we have your god to thank for our survival. Tell him thank you for me."
"Yes, well... to be fair, you and your brother are quite excellent warriors. I will indeed give him my thanks, but I should hardly believe that either of you would need much of his help. In fact, I think he would be thankful to you for saving so many of the good people of this city, including many of his followers." says in response to Flame.
As Marion sits next to him, he turn to acknowledge her as he waits for the the food to arrive.
Facing Elemoth and the cat brothers she says: "Crazy evening, huh? Any word yet on what exactly transpired yesterday?"
Elemoth begins to move his shoulders up in a shrug before wincing slightly, and thinking better of it. "Well my lady.. I don't know myself, but I'm thinking of going to Lady Silverhand after breakfast to see if she knows." he replies, before raising a hand to massage a shoulder with a slightly pained expression on his face. "I never realized that so much of the weight of Chainmail went straight to the shoulders..." he mutters aloud, mostly to himself.
As Marion introduces herself, Elemoth decides it would be a good time to join in. "Elemoth Dyrannel, former head household servant to house Devaux of Waterdeep, and current wandering servant of Lathander." he says by way of introduction, offering his hand to any who want to take it. "I'm pleased to meet all of you. And pleased to meet Torment again, even in newer and more... challenging circumstances." he continues, gesturing towards Torment whenever she comes down. "I knew you were a quite capable event and party planner, but all those erm... other skills were quite a surprise. A pleasant surprise that saved many lives of course, but I just wasn't expecting.. ah but of course I should have been expecting it, this IS Waterdeep after all."

Our heroes, our heroes
Claim warriors' hearts
I tell you, I tell you
The Adventurers come
With old sacred powers
Of the ancient lost arts
Believe, believe,
The Adventurers come
It's an end to the evil
Of all Faerun's Foes
Beware, beware
The Adventurers come
For the darkness has passed
And the legend yet grows
You'll know, you'll know
The Adventurers' come
(Please don't sue me Bethesda, I just love your fantasy songs)
DM of Tomb of Annihilation (and more) Group 2 and Group 3
After the greetings and ordering, Flame looks at Elemoth. "I suppose we have your god to thank for our survival. Tell him thank you for me." Just then, music starts up from behind and Flame turns around to see what's going on.

Marion shakes the offered paw. "Pleased to meet you. I'm..." She glances over at Durnan and remembers his gaze yesterday. "Marion Black! Yes! That is my name." She puts on a forced grin.
Deception: 2
"I'd be interested in meeting Lady Silverhand and hear what she has to offer."
