Jakob opens his mouth to reply in the negative to Worm's question about breakfast, but when the goblin immediately ducks his head, the old man closes he mouth and smiles at the others. "Worm is busy this morning. Is it this way every morning? I usually don't get here until supper." Irontail's entrance grabs the human's attention, and he watches silently. He is especially interested in the metallic tail and unabashedly stares at it. But when the sentient keg walks in, Jakob's eyes grow large, and his lips part. "By Silvanus," he whispers in amazement. "I've seen some strange things in my years, but that may be the strangest."
To Beyanna, Jakob says, "I'd like to take a look at the scene again this morning. I'd like to see it in the light of day. Then, I guess we should start visiting the stricken." He sneezes and then blows his nose. The sneeze and nose blowing are at the typical old man volume — loud enough to wake the dead — but Jakob doesn't act like it's anything to apologize for. "I know things seem on the up and up with Rend and Dig, but if we have time, I'd like to swing by the graveyard as well." He takes a deep breath. "But before all that, I'd really like to take a look around that young girl's room. With all of you, of course," he says quickly. He looks around at the kitchen door. "If Worm's ok with it, I'd like to get to know her a little better. It still bothers me that I can't remember her."
"I agree. Once we're done in Tiriana's room we can split into groups to cover more ground." Azure proposes as his eyes follow Irontail and the lumbering mech. He didn't know what to think of that exchange but he inherently didn't like it. Still, he knew he had other things to focus on today. Namely, avenging Tiriana and hopefully finding a cure for the townsfolk and his mother.
As everyone gathers at the inn Norge is still trying to wake himself up. Most of the conversations around him are just white noise but he perks up at the mention of breakfast, specifically the smell of bacon. "I have a feeling we have a long day ahead of us. Give me some bacon and I'll be good to go!" After Worm brings out a plate of bacon Norge grabs a handful and heads upstairs toward Tiriana's room happily crunching to the crispy goodness.
The large Tiefling sits down at the bar near the older couple and begins to eat his pile of breakfast meats. The two pay him little attention and you get the feeling that seeing Irontail around town is nothing new. Looking behind the bar through a window into the kitchen, you all see Worm showing the new employee how to wash dishes. The goblin then collects some fresh bacon from a skillet and puts it on a fresh plate before sliding it across the bar to Norge. "That'll be 5 copper pieces pal" Worm would say with his hand extended outward waiting for coin. When Asked about Triana's room, Worm sighs and his long goblin ears droop a bit. "Yeah, you can check out her room. Take anything you want. Anything left behind I figure I'll either sell or maybe give away to some of my regulars that ain't been feeling too well." He would add with a glance towards the old man at the bar before taking a key from his pocket and placing it on the counter.
As the group heads up the incredibly clean set of wooden stairs, sunlight from the skylights above the hallway illuminate the corridor like spotlights in front of each set of rooms. When you get to her bedroom and open the door, the wooden floor is different inside. Instead of the perfectly smooth finely sanded floor, the floor is more rough and worn. the room is dark with the window shades pulled shut. There is a small chest at the foot of the bed containing a few sets of clothes and some tools that were probably used to polish and sharpen her sword. On the nightstand there are a few pieces of paper and a quill sitting in a bottle of ink.
Anyone that picks up the paper would read this... if they know draconic that is:
Dear Father, It's been three months since I left you. I have to admit that I'm still confused by what happened that day. How did those men find us? Why did it seem like they were after me? I feel like it has something to do with my mother. I heard them speak of a Lord Baltzack. Is he why you hate nobles so? I must admit that I have inherited your prejudice; it comes so naturally. Oh, Father, I miss you so much. I've tried to be strong, as you taught me to be. I've found an out-of-the-way place to live as you told me to. A very nice goblin has given me a job and a place to sleep. I try to keep to myself so that I don't draw attention. I will do my best to keep training. Maybe one day I will bring honor to your memory. I love you. I always will. Tiriana
Jakob sighs as he stands awkwardly in the doorway of the small room. Despite his bravado in wanting to gain entry, he appears uncomfortable with the situation. As Bey or Mith reads the letter to the others, the old man shakes his head in silence.
Beyanna follows the others up to Tiriana's room. Upon entering, a wave of darkness rushes over her, and while she recognizes it as sadness, she wonders if there's something else that's triggering those feelings as well. Doing her best to contain her sorrow, she helps search the room, thinking to herself that she's never actually been inside Tir's room before.
Walking over to the nightstand, Bey finds the paper and quill. She picks up the letter and reads it to herself.
"Here is a letter that she was writing to her father. It's scribed in Draconic, which is often the language used by mages for arcane notation. I will translate for you," she says before speaking the words to the others in common, using a hushed tone.
Afterwards, she says, "Do any of you know the name Lord Baltzack?
"Where was she from anyways, anyone remember? Maybe trouble followed her here and there's more going on than we realize! She never said anything to me. And Worm said one of his regulars was sick and he looked at the guy at the bar. We should talk to him and see who and where he has been lately."
"That's sad. It sounds like she was just trying her best to stay safe." Norge says as he looks around the room to see if there is anything else of interest that may help the investigation.
OOC: You would all know that there arn't really any Nobles exactly that live in town. There are some people like the mayor and Irontail that have considerable wealth and influence but no true nobles. There are nobles that stop through town on occasion or that stick around town for a few days when purchasing goods from Irontail or providing him with a grocery list of items that they would like him to procure for them.
As Azure thinks about the letter written on the night stand, and about his deceased friend... He believes he has heard of a Lord Baltzack before. There was a group of men that passed through town months ago saying that noble named Baltzack had been looking for a man called Hamon... Something about a bounty on Hamon's head...
Norge looks around the room for anything else of interest. When he looks under her pillow he finds a simple unsheathed dagger.
Azure pondered on the name and recalled a group of men who visited a while back. "Ah, I remember. There was a group of men who came through Darkwater, months ago. They said they were looking for someone and there was a bounty on his head... Hem...Han... Hamor. Hamor!" he says reassuring himself of the name. "Do you think that her father is this Hamor?" he pauses thinking about the letter and Tiriana's personality. "Makes sense now, why she never really liked nobles or rich folk. Once we put an end to this disease and masked man, we should try to find her father... At least to let him know about his daughter."he adds looking torn over his feelings.
"What kind of father would leave his child in a place like this?" he thought to himself.
"Looks like she had a dagger in addition to that sword she carried. She must have been on pins and needles to sleep with a dagger under her pillow." Norge frowns as he realizes his friend had a more troubling past than he realized. "Perhaps we should head out and check some other leads. As we're gathering information about the plague maybe we'll catch some information related to this Baltzack fellow."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Azure, I am of the same mind. We should try and find Tiriana's father and deliver news of her passing. And Norge is right, if nothing else is to be found here, it would be a prudent idea to start questioning some of the locals who have come down with the plague. Who do we know in Darkwater who has contacted the disease?"
Bey conducts one final search of the room, checking to see if there are any hidden compartments or panels inside the chest or any makeshift hiding places that might have been created underneath the bed.

OOC: Are there any nobles in Darkwater?
Azure listens to Bey recite the letter and fights to hold back tears thinking of the sweet girl who less than 24 hours ago he was conversing with.

"Worm may know more. It seems he may have known her the longest," Jakob suggests.
"Then perhaps we should go talk with Worm. It sounds like he has a keen knowledge about the people and events in this area."
