"Oh cripes! Why don't I just leave this with you then?" Jayson nearly drops the skull at Wellume's warning, his hands rushing to hold the it at arms length. He hands it over to Wellume for study, eyeing the skulls teeth the whole time. As if it might literally bite him.
"Its not that I'm afraid of magic..." Jayson goes on, subconsciously wiping his hands off on his pants. "I just don't know anything about it!" He touches the tattoo on his face with his fingertips, before wandering off to find something, anything else, to do away from the possibly magical item.
Wellume chuckles
but nothing happens a glowing vial that you thought was a ruby pops out of the eye as Jayson hastily lays it down

(this is the part where you role play, If you have the pearl you may Identify it but upon the detect magic spell you find that it has properties of Transmutation spell mixed with Abjuration of a protection spell (works like mage armor) and you apply it topically to the skin for an hour)

While eating breakfast upon further study of the vial Bhuraelea thinks it would only benefit someone who does not wear armor
