CABOOM! Another crashing boom echoes through the cave.
A narrow ledge overlooks a large cavern that houses a surging, seething body of water. The rhythmic booming heard throughout the mines is louder here. At regular intervals, a fresh surge of water funnels into this chamber and slams against the wall just below the ledge. The echo suggests that this cave might be one arm of a much larger cavern to the northeast.
The water recedes to about 15 feet below the ledge. When it surges into the cave, it comes to within 5 feet of the ledge.
Nyx takes a quick look down the channel she is in and confirms that this is where the miners diverted water from to run the waterwheel in the smelter.
It also look like on old streambed exits this cavern to the north east.
Nyx and Umbriel, you find that the streambed is only about 4 feet high and strewn with rounded boulders and rocks, so the larger folks would have to crawl to get through it. You venture about 30 feet down the streambed, and it seems passable so far.
Baeshra, you jump into the water when it is 15' below you and it seems like you're in the air for a long time (That's a high jump) before you splash into the water. With your darkvision you are able to see quite a ways through the water. It seems to be about 20 feet deep. The rock mass to the north west is an island, and beyond that you see the underground lake going out past your darkvision.
Baeshra easily climbs out of the water using the rope with the two of you anchoring it!
Lyngheid assisted Baeshra up, " Find anything interesting? Where does the water go to? Anything on that land over there? Its like waves.......is it salty water....I would have thought we're too far inland for it to be joined to the ocean...but theres water movement...."
" Well at least there was nothing ancient and terrible lairing in the depths....did I tell you about this one time back home they were opening up a new vein of iron ore and accidentally broke through into a subterranean lake. Flooded the whole lower part of the complex and really pissed off these weird cave-fish-people and their god-thing....fun times."
You follow the old streambed for another 30 or so feet and come out onto a ledge above a wide rift. The 20 foot deep rift fills the eastern half of this cavern. A stream pours out of the west wall, then tumbles down into the rift and flows out again to the north. Several ropes are secured to iron stakes along on the western edge of the rift, leading down to the chasm floor.
At the very edge of your darkvision you can see the start of a set of steps across the rift leading away.
You see two bugbears clearing rock on the rift floor while one more stands guard in the western half of the cavern and a drow appears to be supervising the three bugbears.

" Unless one of you can swim very well, I suggest we take the dry exit across the way. To the north."
" Is this why its called Wave Echo Cave?"
(Both exits are dry, the water no longer runs into the channel or the old stream bed.)
Nyx will scout ahead to the north west exit, doing her best to stay out of the light cast from the parties torch.

Umbriel will peek around the corner of the dry stream bed, but will stay within sight of the group.

Back to the group?
Make an athletics check to see if you can get back on shore.
Updated map:
(Yes, back to the group. He also has a swim speed if that helps any.)
Athletics check: 8
(Assuming that fails) He'll call up for someone to drop him a rope...
Yes, Rosie's got a rope. "Hang on to this Baeshra!" And then toss an end down and give the other end to Lyngheid.
Ireniana is going to walk over and help Lyngheid.
I have an intelligence of six, I know what I'm doing.
Baeshra easily climbs out of the water using the rope with the two of you anchoring it!
Nyx continues around the corner to see if she can determine where the tunnel goes.

What are you using for a light source? Or are you going in dark? Or is Umbriel leading you with his darkvision?
Baeshra shrugs, “Nothing of note. (Fresh/salt) water, but just a large lake, must extend somewhere with movement though, or magic.”
Umbriel will lead Nyx in with his Darkvision, stopping if he catches any movement.
