"I suppose it depends on how worried you are about the white dragon that has been flying all over these parts." Lia says with a shrug. "We had to scare it off just outside of town here just a few days ago. Up to you though. we need to check in with the Townmaster in the morning, then decide what jobs need doing next. If you are comfortable traveling in a place a dragon has been known to attack travelers, then so be it. The offer is there if you change your mind."
"She speaks the truth, we have all seen the dragon. I, personally, request you all hold until we can confirm its movements here back to you and your team. It truly cannot be underestimated."
Xarroththen sighs, "if you are talking of wares, if it has any sway, perhaps we can take a look and talk possible trade."
"I keep forgetting that around these parts we don't have Waterdeep's garrison patrolling the roads" the halfling says, taling another sip from her mug. "You are right that a dragon would be too much for me and my aides. I guess the people from Gnomegarde will have to wait some more then."
Finishing her drink, Merla stands "the road here was long and I'm looking forward to a good night's rest." She takes a parchment and a piece of wood with a blackened tip, preparing to write "I'll gladly accept your escort offer. If you can tell me what you are looking for and I'll have one of my aides look for it in our cargo while you finish your business in town tomorrow morning. I can't promise we'll have it in stock, but there must be something in there we can trade."
OOC: I had to reinstall the OS in my computer, I'm back :)
"We'll see you in the morning then." Lia says. She turns to her companions. "Do we want to call on the town master tonight yet or see about doing so in the morning?" She looks longingly towards the stairs. "I would not mind taking a bit of time to soak in a warm bath, and get the grit and whatnot from the fortress washed away..."
"I think it's better to do that sort of things during daylight. Let's have some time to ourselves. I sure could have some wine and a tasty food!" Lothliénanswers
"Good plan then." Lia agrees with a relieved sigh. "I am going to see if the innkeep can set a bath up for me in my room, a bottle of wine as well, and maybe some meat and cheese to go with it. I plan on a long soak in a bath, and then simpply ending the night with something to eat and drink as I study my spells." She glances to the others. "Any issues with me doing that?" She asks, in case anyone had concerns with them doing something other than that.
Merla notes the items that Lothlién lists "I think I have a few of these in store. I'll wait for you here next morning to tell you after I check." She bids your group good night and heads upstairs to her room.
After she has gone, Toblen approaches you with a tray of steaming plates "you are in luck, today's goat stew is specially good, even if I say so myself." Hearing Lia's request, he calls for a stable boy and sends the lad to heat a bath while you eat. He nods in the direction where the halfling left and adds "she comes by every few months, never stays more than a single night, but always tips well."
Night passes uneventfully. You wake shortly after dawn, refreshed and free of the dwarven fortress' dusty smell.
Toblen is already up, taking a few dirty plates back to the kitchen as you come into the dining hall. "Give me just a moment and I'll be with you" he says, disappearing into the kitchen and promptly coming back with a tray full of hot bread and a block of cheese. "Today we have rye bread for a change, let me know if you need anything else."
After your hunger is satisfied, you see that Merla and two other halflings are talking among themselves at a pace so quick it makes you wonder they could get a sprained tongue if they keep it up for long. Merla turns to you and switches back to common to greet you "I've found a couple items that were on your list and a few others that may interest you. The gnomes are mostly interested in protective gear for their experiments and construction. We have winged boots, boots of the winterlands, slippers of spider climbing, immovable rod and gloves of swimming and climbing. I'm sure we were carrying a pearl of power, but that must be stashed in the very first box we loaded and if we unpack everything we will not be able to depart today."
Lia takes a seat and helps herself to food. She was not interested in the items brought out by the halfling, once she learned what they could do, so stayed back as the others moved to take a closer look.
"Those boots look useful" Lothlién says, thinking which pair would be best for his adventures. "As I said, me and my friends have some items we won't use, so maybe we can exchange them? We found a Dread Helm, among some other stuff..." he says, looking at the party, waiting for someone to show all the items they found.
Turning to Xarroth, Merla replies "I'm not exactly sure how it works. But I saw with my own eyes a completely exhausted mage cast an amazing spell after just touching one. I only have it because he wanted to trade for a cape I got from Waterdeep long ago and was short on coin at the time."
One of the other halflings whispers something in her ear and she continues "I would like to reach Gnomegarde today before dark. I'll be ready to depart after you have finished your business and could trade it for that helmet your companion showed me, if you throw some extra coin my way."
Lia finishes her food and rises when the others have completed their discussion with the halfling. She would accompany the others to the townmaster's home.
Leaving the halfings talking among themselves, you head out to Townmaster Harbin's house to report your progress. After hearing about how you dealt with the spiders and undead infesting it he is most pleased "it sure is nice to have somewhere to find refuge, should everything end in ruin. I'll have a couple people go there with wheelbarrows to clean up the place. Who knows, maybe we could even find people that want to relocate there permanently." He takes a pouch from his robes and gives it out, not exactly happy, but knowing that he must pay what was promised "250 gold pieces, as the notice said."
OOC: after finishing the quest, you all go up a level. Who is ready to take on a dragon headfirst?
"Living under that rock feels weird to me, but with some care that place can be great for people who likes that lifestyle." Lothliénadds to the Townmaster.
"I'll take 62 gp, since it's an uneven split." he talks to the party.
OOC: I'd be more confortable if we deal with the dragon after I get my warm boots hehe
"Excellent. I, too, can offer to take the 62 gp. That said, I may have to be a bother and disturb that halfling. That Pearl sounds truly quite useful, and I do not believe over-preparation exist for the dangers ahead..." Xarroth says looking to his comrades before turning back looks to purchase the Pearl of Power.
The townmaster looks distraught "cleaning that fortress was a great service to our community. The people have been telling me that they are mortally afraid of the dragon. A few people told me they saw it flying over Neverwiner forest. Hopefully this will calm them down." He thinks a bit and keeps going "the ones that need help the most are Big Al and Falcon, but I think heroes such as yourselves are above such mundane tasks."
Leaving the townmaster's home, you look at the notice board. As he said, both Big Al Kalazorn and Falcon have posted notices asking for builders and farmers. Other than those, there still is a somewhat faded notice saying
The dragon that besets us is not the first to threaten this region. Between here and Neverwinter lies the barrow mound of a warrior whose magical dragon-slaying sword helped fell a green dragon terrorizing the High Road a century ago. Rumor has it the dragon slayer sword is buried there too. Retrieve it, and let the sword be its own reward!
OOC: it's up to you to decide to go after the sword in the tomb, follow the rumors you heard long ago about sunken treasure in broken ships near a lighthouse two days travel west, escort Merla and the other halflings to Gnomegarde, go after the dragon or go off the rails completely.

OOC: item list taken from the OCC thread.

"Give me just a moment and I'll be with you" he says, disappearing into the kitchen and promptly coming back with a tray full of hot bread and a block of cheese. We found a Dread Helm, among some other stuff..." he says, looking at the party, waiting for someone to show all the items they found.
"I cannot lie - I am intrigued by this pearl of power. Care to expand what it does?" Xarroth asks while placing sliced cheese on his warm bread.

"How about 15gp plus the helm?" Lothlién proposes.
As soon as the negotiations are done, he'll lead the way to the Townmaster's home.
"Aye, we could do that" replies Merla "but only after we are safe in Gnomegarde."
Lia finishes her food and rises when the others have completed their discussion with the halfling. She would accompany the others to the townmaster's home.

"What other tasks do you have needing done?" Lia asks the townmaster as she puts away her portion of the coin.
