Swin nods at the two of them. "Sounds like as good as any plan we'd have on our own. What do you say, Darren, wanna head out with full bellies and see if these are the brigands that took Rhane?"
She's happy to leave with the group. Do we have mounts?
“Uh sure. That uh. Sounds… good. Yeah.” He nervously begins tapping a utensil on the table which emits light that changes color every time he taps it on the table. “No sense hanging around here if we have a chance to find Rhane.”
"I'm not really all that smart. I'm just good at talking, usually." Alton nods and finishes downing his drink, "Well, if there's nothing else, lets get going."

Balassar just looks at Alton "Smarter than me. Anyway, should we get going? I'm thinking we could take the cart and horses just shy of the area and head out on foot from there? It'd also help us bring back anything we find in there."
Darren gives a wry smile at the mention of smarts. To him it’s a toss up between Swim and himself as to who is smarter. But he says nothing on the matter. Might as well let the small halfling take the lead anyway. “Yes let’s get going.” He stops tapping the utensil and leaves it on the table with a faint yellow glow.
A young man, really a teenager, has come up to you as you were speaking. He's not wearing any Crownsguard uniform or armour., but Balassar would recognise Kef, the young and very untrained Crownsguard recruit who was standing guard outside their headquarters the day before.
"I... ummmm... I've come to join?" he says to Balassar directly, his voice rising as though he were asking a question.
Darren, you doubt very much this boy has actually fought in real combat. Perhaps he's done some practice training. Perhaps.
Balassar, Kef replies "I don't have armour. I have a friend with some old leather I could borrow. He'll lend it to me, for sure." He doesn't sound sure. "I can't wear my official armour. This isn't an official task, and it would cause a lot of trouble. I think this will already cause trouble anyways, but I don't want to make it worse. I heard you speak. I was in the back room, sorting out the files and... well, I guess I want to help. I think it's my duty. I have my short sword." He turns slightly so you can see it, hanging from his belt. It looks old and beaten, but serviceable.
Balassar just nods “Guess that makes sense then. Though I’m sure they’d let it slide if you helped the CrownsGuard get some credit. Was really hoping more of you would show up.”
He looks at his companions and then to Kef “We’ll meet up with you. I’m gonna take Kef to the blacksmith real quick and see if they don’t have some armor and a shield lying around.”
He begins to walk towards the blacksmiths shop looking back at Kef “Come on soldier.”
Swin watches Balaassar prepare to leave with the boy, then she leans toward Darren without moving her gaze and says out of the corner of her mouth, "some kind of joke? they pranking the kid? or maybe they aren't and just don't like him..."
Alton gives Balassar and kid a wave as they leave, "Looks like we both had some luck today. Alright, see you two in a bit then." He turns to Swin and Darren, "We saw him standing guard outside the Crownsguard building the other day. Balassar takes being a soldier pretty seriously. Anyway, while they are at the blacksmith we can go get our horse and cart and then meet up with them there. Unless, you two want to check out the market for any supplies we might need."

Darren replies to Soar, “Seems to me the lad is jus’ doing what he t’inks is right. Often that’s the most difficult when people are telling you it is wrong.”
To Alton he simply says, “Lead the way, o fearless leader.”
Balassar, you head to the blacksmith, the one you have visited before. Kef follows happily, perhaps surprised and certainly pleased that you are taking him seriously. The half-elf smith and her husband are at work, much as they were the day before. The man, Juul, looks up as you enter, and nods at Kef, clearly recognising him. "Looks like you've made a friend, Kef. What can I do for you today, Master Silverstone?"
Alton, you head to the inn's small stable, Swin and Darren following. You find the place empty. A halfling, one you haven't met before, looks at you as you enter. "Your friends drove the cart off during the night," she says helpfully.
Darren quirks an eyebrow, “Sounds like someone stole tha cart.” And lightly pats Alton on the shoulder. “I suppose we could go after them first… or find another cart?” Darren supplies trying to be helpful and diffuse any potential stress from the situation.
As they walk to the smithy Balassar just looks at Kef "What type of armor are you most comfortable in and what type of weapon do you usually fight with?"
Balassar just looks at the smith as they enters and nods "Yeah, he's offered to help with something and get some training. I was wondering if you all might have some decent armor and a decent weapon for around 400 gold?"
Balassar just nods adding “Sounds good, if y’all couldn’t tell Alton’s the brains and I’m the brawn.”
Swin nods at the two of them. "Sounds like as good as any plan we'd have on our own. What do you say, Darren, wanna head out with full bellies and see if these are the brigands that took Rhane?"

"Ummm..." says a voice.

Darren looks at Alton and Balassar then back to this kid trying to size him up and get a sense of if he’s seen any sort of combat.
(insight roll in game log: 6 (passive is 14))
Balassar just smiles and laughs joyously “Good on ya man. Where’s your armor and weapon? You looking to fight the bandits with your fist?
Swin's eyebrow cocks at the kid. "You know this one?" she says to Alton and Balassar.

Swin nods and stands, and settles the bill if the hosts had not already. She accompanies Alton to get horses and proceed to the bandit hideout.
