Keyo stares at Arael for a minute before responding. His mind is clearly elsewhere, as if deep in thought. He wipes the sea creature blood off of his dagger, and then drags the sleeve of his robe across his face to rid it of all tears and grime.
"I just came here for a flower... It was supposed to be a simple job for an apothecary friend of mine."
His voice is clearly shaken from the experience. His shoulder visibly shiver, and he clutches his tome to his chest for comfort.
"My magic can do many things Silent, but against hordes of aquatic devils I think your blade is a more powerful weapon. I dare not think what our state would be if you were not there Silent."
He turns to Arael, "I thought we lost you for a minute there. Without Pockets timely intervention our little group would be rather different."
Silent has probably seen faces like Keyo's following battles and he claps him on the shoulder lightly without saying anything. He gives him a nod.
He turns to Arael. Just came down here from...ah... a ways up north. Been wandering around looking for bits o' work here and there. He seems to remember something and fishes in his pack for the letter addressed to the innkeeper. Damn - the poor sod's probably dead now. That's ten gold down the train, too...
You said you were looking for birds, right? He chuckles. Bit more wildlife than you might've bargained for, eh?
(OOC: Silent asked Arael about a crystal sphere she was using when they first met. This might be a long shot but in the heat of battle would he have noticed if she was using it when casting spells?)
(OOC: I didn't use any spells that required components that would have used the orb instead. Not sure what -if any- specific somatic actions ray of frost or magic missile entail. DM - your choice if orb was incorporated or not)
Arael finishes wiping down her daggers and they disappear back into her skirts. She looks sideways at Keyo and Pockets, embarrassed at the mention of going unconscious
Yes, it would have been...her voice falters as she struggles to find the right word... disappointing to die at the hands of such unremarkable enemies.
She looks towards Silent and speaks with more confidence and shrugs,
Birds were a means to an end. Food and shelter aren't always free. I'd rather kill shark-worshippers than pluck feathers though.
She continues, eyes narrowing with suspicion as she puts together the puzzle pieces of his statements,
You're from up north? Where? Why did you come this far south?
It seems unlikely that Arael would continuous put her orb into her pocket and take it out when she's using spells with or without material components. Unless you would like her to do that, I suggest that she just always has the orb out when she's casting.
You've never heard of the serber-whatever or the soltick academy.
Pockets, you look into the pouch and find eight silver pieces, fiftteen coppers, and what looks like the skull of a small rodent. Just the skull, clean and polished.
Silent casts a glance around at the other individuals on board the ship and turns back to Arael. Ah, I'm just from around the, ah, Empire - small towns, you know how it is. Had to satisfy my wanderlust, figured I'd head down to here to soak up some sun. Can't say I'm a fan of it, he adds, and tries to shuffle further into the shade on the deck.
How about the two of you? he adds quickly, looking back at Arael and Keyo. You don't strike me as coastal folk.
Pockets, you see a heavyset male human talking quietly to the refugees; Aurelio has joined them and they listen and nod. He catches your glance, says something else to the listening villagers, and walks towards your group.
Name's Boerth. You idiots look half dead. Good job rescuing Kijori, but don't go bleeding on the captain's deck, she doesn't like it. Not unless she's the one that sliced you open. Settle yourselves here for a while, take some rest and smarten yourselves up. Captain will want to speak with you.
He's not one for chatting, though he'll answer a quick question or two if you want to ask it. Otherwise, you can take an hour to have a short rest.
(OOC: Roll hit die here in the main thread. The easiest way to take a short rest is to click on the 'Short Rest' button in the character sheet; it won't actually roll the die for you, but it will reset the right abilities.)
"I am from Uthodurn originally. So the whole seafaring thing is still new to me. By all that is good I hope I don't get sea sick again. I am an arcanist by trade, I set out to expand my knowledge and experience the world. I was not expecting to experience this facet of the world so quickly."
Keyo looks solemnly around the deck of the ship. His gaze lingers on each of the crew and his companions.

Arael looks to Keyo,
And what exactly did you think the world was, elf? It's just this, blood and battle and victory and defeat. If you thought differently, well, it's time to be rid of that lie.

Silent's hit dice - 14
At Arael's words to Keyo he looks up, his jaw set. Sounds like those words come from experience, Arael. We've got an engineer, an arcanist... and I guess some might call me a professional with a sword. How 'bout yourself?
Arael looks Silent in the eyes, expression drawn and determined.
It's been a long road down here, and I've seen things you three couldn't even imagine. As a mercenary I'm sure you're familiar with how things are, Silent. It would be unwise to leave our companions in the dark about what lurks in the shadows if we want to stay alive.
The scales across Arael's skin seem to shimmer with frost while her familiar crystal orb travels impossible paths along her hands, arms and shoulders.
My magic is...mine. I didn't buy it or build it or read it in a book. I am my own power, and I don't think I would have it any other way. It's mine to control and to use how I see fit.
Silent takes in her words and eventually nods, scratching his scruffy beard. You remind me a bit of one of my old squad mates,he says with a small smile. I reckon we've all seen our fair share of horrible stuff... and these two are tougher than they might appear at first glance. But your point is well-taken, at least on my end.
Hold on, though, he adds and his smile widens. We're companions now, is it?He surveys all three with an intrigued expression on his face.
Keyo looks at his new companions. "You might be right Arael. There is no hiding from a hard truth. We did good today. We were able to help save some people. That counts as a win in my book." Keyo holds out his hand to Silent. "I hope to prove a worthy companion, and a trustworthy friend"
As Keyo rests he flips through his spellbook and uses Arcane Recovery
Arael finds a seat near to Silent and Pockets. She grins, good naturedly at Pockets,
That's a lot of story for a little man. But I definitely appreciate surviving to fight another day. I think you're more useful than you seem.
(OOC: Would I know about the Cerberus Assembly/Soltryce? Can I roll?)
She doesn't show any real interest in the notebook or its designs, but nods politely at the designs.
She unsheathes her daggers and begins cleaning the blood off of her own blades.
And you boys? She looks up to Keyo and Silent, what brought you to this spectacular bloodbath?
Arael, you can roll a History check if you wish.

Arael snort-laughs at Silent and relaxes slightly.
No, I'm not coastal, southern boy.
(OOC: totally agree with having orb out during combat, I just didn't want to RP over spell mechanics/specifics).
Pockets looks around to see if there's anything he can do to help with the running of the ship or tend to anyone in need.

I've always wanted to be part of a crew. And he nods off for a minute.
