Good to hear, the lawmaster replies with a nod to Wash, before turning his attention to Silent's question.
There are a few shepherds who live in the mountains to the east, not far from the village of Rilt. The village leader was here for the Harvest Close, and said there've been sheep stealings. The shepherds claim they've seen tracks that mean giants, come from the mountains they reckon. Rilt's kind of known for tall tales of giants and fey and other things come down from the mountains; most folk don't believe half the tales they tell. But she was insistent, that something was going on and needed investigating, and I believe her well enough.
(Alton, you know the phrase 'daft as a Rilterman', to describe someone who believes in fantasies and nonsense.)
So, giants. Or big wolves. Or local kids. Under normal circumstances, I'd send two guards to take a look, but with the war I can't spare them. So that's your job. Go to Rilt. Find out what's going on, and stop it. Get a letter from the village leader, Hatta Croom, to say she's happy the matter's resolved. If it's really giants, or something worse than you can handle, come back and report it. Don't get yourselves killed.
As for your period of service, Whisperthin's not as bad as you might think. The news of the war came as a surprise, and he's grasping for whatever resource he can find. Once you've done some good work and he's calmed down a little, I'm sure we can work something out. That's as much as I can promise though.
(I'm sure that phrase has been shot in Alton's direction a few times.)
Alton tucks the badge away, "It appears that we were all put into an uncomfortable spot suddenly. It seemed like you wanted to say something yesterday when the Storasta was talking to us."

Wash will agree with Alton and say, "Yes, we appreciate your frankness, so if there is anything you think would be useful for us to know - or just something you wanted to say - please do" (hopefully providing advantage if Alton needs to make a persuasion check).
Silent also nods to the Lawmaster's description, falling silent as he finishes speaking and scratching his beard, deep in thought and keenly interested in answers to Alton's and Wash's questions.
Alton, make a Persuasion check. For various reasons, Wash's help with cancel the disadvantage rather than give you advantage, so just make a straight roll.
The lawmaster shakes his head, hesitates, and then speaks. Only to... well, mostly what I've already said. It would have been better if you had simply accepted Theanor's conscription immediately. Yesterday was not a day for asking questions. But... well, perhaps I can give you some advice in dealing with the authorities. Your group will benefit from it in the long run. But that's a conversation for another day. Good luck in Rilt. And, unless there's anything else...?
And with that, the audience with the lawmaster comes to an end, and you are shown out of the house where he lives and works.
If there's anything you want to do in town before setting off, let me know. Are you heading to Rilt? Or somewhere else?
Rilt is perhaps 60 miles away, to the east. If you want to ask around town about the best way to get there, and any alternatives to walking, let me know.
On the map below, Rilt is marked with the red dot.
(OOC: Yes, the others do. The horse that Art stole was kept at the Crownsguard headquarters, along with the other two. However, there's a war on, so horses might be more expensive than usual. If Silent wants to buy one, make a Persuasion check.)
Alton nods, "I guess we are going giant hunting. Do you guys want to take stock of what we have before leaving town to see if there is anything we might need to get?"

Silent, a horse is available for sale, a brown mare; the owner was planning a trip to the Menagerie Coast but called it off due to the war. Nevertheless, she wants 120 gold for it, rather than the usual 75 gold.
Alton slips behind Silent after he has turned around and hands the owner 12 platinum for the horse. "Hey Silent, don't leave without your horse." He holds out the regins towards him.
Silent does a double take, jaw hanging open for a few seconds before he walks over and takes the reigns. You gotta let me pay you back for this, Alton... I got 150 gold, enough for the askin' price.

Balassar just nods as the lawmaster provides the details "Got it, we ask around and take care of the issue. Seems simple enough."

Silent has nothing else he wants to do in Felderwin. We goin' on a giant hunt, then?

Silent takes a look at his wallet and grimaces. Feet it is, then. Thanks anyway miss. He will rejoin the others.
