Silent gives a small smile. Might come as a surprise after what went down on that beach... but I've been trying to get away from killing, really. And you're right - I've never been much good at talking, I've always... expressed myself with weapons and violence. If there's no choice I'll always fight - but maybe it's not too late to turn over a new leaf.
He looks over his shoulder and then looks Arael and Pockets in the eye, dropping his voice to a whisper. I'll be honest though, I'm more worried about this artifact and our new employer's goals right now. You're both magic users so you tell me - do you think something that can cause bloody earthquakes should be sitting around in some idiot noble's gallery? Seems like that's asking for trouble - I'd rather destroy the damned thing if push comes to shove, to be honest.
Pockets, you know a fair amount about means to breathe underwater. There is a spell that you cannot cast yet, but you believe you will learn one day, that will allow this. Shamans and wizards can use this magic, and most larger cities would have a practitioner of such things. As for mechanical methods, you saw a picture once of a woman wearing what looked to be a glass dome that encompassed her entire head. You're not sure how to craft such a thing, and you never saw a schematic, but your instinct tells you this would be possible.
Arael nods, agreeing with Silent's perspective on leaf-turning.
I suppose you're right, about becoming something better than you were yesterday. I'm not sure my desire to become someone else extends as far forgiveness for my enemies though.
As to the safest place for the artifact, there's a saying, 'Never underestimate the paranoia of rich people.' I think it would be best for everybody to have that bauble locked up and trapped, away from anyone who would use it.
Silent nods. Agreed, although I'm still not certain this noble's the right fellow for the job... hmm, we might actually be able to gather some intel on him in Port Damali.
Either way, and here Silent's expression turns dark. If we get any whiff of the Captain or anyone else in the operation making their own play for the artifact, we shut them down, yeah? The Captain's well-spoken no doubt, but I trust her about as far as I can throw her. And on this ship that ain't far.
First we find it, then we figure out how to dispose of it properly, right? That’s what we’re all talking about? I’m not sure I trust the Captain right now. On the one hand she did save all of these people, so she can’t be entirely without conscience. On the other, her interest in this artifact is clearly not altruistic. Are we just a means to an end for her?
Pockets, do you know how to go about destroying such a thing?
(OOC: can I roll to see if I know about destroying magic items? history? arcana?)
And as far as the Captain goes, I don't have a reason not to trust her. I think the motivation of gold is much easier to trust than motivations of curiosity or power. If money is what she's after, she'll make sure we live to see the other side of this conflict. And of course she's using us, we're using her just the same. She wants money, I want money and revenge. Neither of us can complete the job on our own. Partnerships have been built on less.
We can ask about this rich nobleman if that makes you all feel more comfortable, but, like I said, he's less likely to cause chaos with it than it's current owner.
Arael shrugs and cleans the dirt from under her sharp, claw-like fingernails.
Arael, you know that Pockets is right. Any magic item is almost impossible to destroy, and requires very powerful magic to do so. It would probably be quite beyond your capabilities.
Silent scratches his head. Ah well, I guess we can hash out what do with the artifact once we have it.
Hopefully things don't get ugly but if the captain or this noble are...uh... not the most responsible keepers of this island-sinker, I think we should be prepared to go back on our deal. I won't presume to try and tell any of you what's right but I reckon we should keep our options open.
Keyo awakes well after the rest of his companions. He pulls himself out of his hammock and sluggishly wanders up to the deck. Emerging out of the hull as he is still slipping into his robes. With a yawn he looks around for his friends, but ends up standing near the bow and looking off into the sea in quiet contemplation.
Silent nods at Pockets though he looks slightly confused. Sure thing Pockets. He'll talk to him in private at the next possible opportunity; if there is still time before reaching Port Damali he'll talk to him on the ship.
It's nothing sensitive. I'm just wondering about tactics. You've been in more fights than I have, so I wanted to pick your brain about how the Sahuagin fight. I noticed that they used tridents and bite attacks. It got me thinking. Should we also arm ourselves with similar weapons?
Silent scratches his beard. Hmmm... in a fight I reckon it's always best to wield what you know. You're a crack shot with that bow and Arael and Keyo seem pretty comfortable with their daggers, not to mention magic. I've used spears and the like before, could probably work a trident... but hell, I'm pretty attached to this sword.
Are you thinking that mimicking their fighting style will give us some kind of... mental advantage? Asserting dominance and all that?

Pockets is receptive to Silent.
(OOC: Leveled up. No issues. Interesting thing about artificers, they can change a cantrip when they level up. That's atypical of most spellcasters.)

Arael can roll an Arcana check if you like.

(OOC: What's magic?)
Even common magic items can be hard to outright destroy. Something like this is beyond me.

Silent, if we have time, I’d like to discuss something with you in private. I think your martial experience would be invaluable.
