Silent can see where the tide is turning. He doesn't look especially excited but he proffers a hand to Captain Earrings. I've had odder jobs. If these folks are in, so am I.
He turns to Pockets. You're probably the most familiar with these parts; you interested in a trip back home, or you reckon we should dock at one of the other ports?
I would say so, but as you say, only to the ports and probably only to the odd tavern here and there; as a lowly crewmember he wouldn't have had much free time in port.
Port Damali then. Three Earrings turns to Boerth: Tell our dear navigator. Oh, and the villagers too.
The large man grumbles: They won't like it.
The tabaxi snorts in response. They can go for a nice swim if they don't like it. They're strong enough folk, they can work their passage back home, or walk it. In any case, not our problem. We have more interesting matters to hand.
She looks again at you all. Go now, rest. Make your plans. We'll not be stopping long in the city - don't want the Zhelezo asking for witness accounts and slowing us down with their silly paperwork. Boerth shows you out, and closes the door as Three Earrings continues to study her map intensely.
As the Wavechaser heads towards Port Damali, you have a few options with the remaining hours of daylight:
You can spend time with the folks you rescued from Palma Flora: Aurelio, Joaoand Elanza(who has now woken up).
You can speak to the other refugees of the village; all are young adults in their mid to late twenties, and they keep in a cluser near the bow of the ship.
You can speak to the crew of the Wavechaser. You've met the male human navigator, Kijori, who now stands, sobered up, near the ship's wheel. You've also met Boerth, another male human. You see three other crew - a female half-orc and a male sea elf who are both moving around the ship doing odd jobs, and a female dwarf who stands at the wheel.
Or, you could retire early. The captain has set aside a corner of the hold down below where four hammocks have been prepared; it's an unfamiliar (for most of you) way to sleep, but they prove to be very comfortable.
Pockets checks up with Joao, Elanza and Aurelio. It looks like we’ll be heading away from your home. Do you have means for room and board in Port Damali?
I... Port Damali? No, I... Aurelio looks nervous and unhappy.
Joao and Elanza don't look unhappy at all. Port Damali, Joao says excitedly. I've never been. We were thinking of going next year. I mean, no, I don't know anyone there.
Yes, you do, Elanza interrupts. Hi, she says quickly to Pockets, I'm Elanza, nice to meet you, thanks for saving us. She says all this very quickly, then returns to the matter at hand: Remember Toset, Sarma's older sister?
That's right, she married a... scholar, that's what she said right? Joao's mouth stumbles around the unfamiliar word. Yeah, we can find her and...
... and find work in the big city, and settle down and... Elanza pauses. What about your parents?
Nothing I can do to help them, Joao says, a little uncertain. They survived, or they didn't. If they survived, I can get a message to them. Bound to be a ship going there soon. If not, well... we'll be in Port Damali, and no need to dwell on it, yeah?
Pockets hands them the pouch with Captain Soales’ money, minus the rat skull, along with three gold of his own. I know this isn’t much, but it should help until things stabilize for you.
Since Silent promised to get information for the kids he'll join Pockets. We'll be heading back to Palma Flora pretty soon so we can keep an eye out for your parents, kid. And if either of you, he directs this to Aurelio and Elanza, have any folks on the island you'd like us to look for, give us some information. No sense wasting a trip there and not making the most of it, yeah?
Keyo follows Arael to the bow of the ship to aid with tending to the refugees. "If there is anything you need, please don't hesitate to ask!" Keyo approaches whoever looks most depressed. Possibly Aurelio if he is with this group of refugees. Keyo digs into his backpack and removes a heavy blanket and drapes it across their shoulders. "We will get through this together."
Keyo is feeling noticeably better now after his conversation with his new companions. He is clearly doing better now that he knows he has "Friends and companions" to lean on.
Pockets, Elanza takes the pouch and opens it. Her eyes go wide, and she closes it again and gives it to Aurelio, whispering: Hide this! Both she and Joao were fresh from shark hunting and not wearing all that much. Thank you, the girl says. This... you're so generous. You saved us, and now. You're a hero, you all are. We'll do well, I promise.
Silent, Elanza shakes her head. My family moved away last year. Aurelio says: If you can find Brother Kislin, I would be grateful. He's a priest, and was my tutor for the last few years. I think he was out of the village when the... when it happened, but it would be good if you could check on his. He's an elf, quite young, with fair hair.
Arael, the refugees are three women and two men; two human, two tiefling, and one half-elf. One of the women seems most comfortable to talk to a stranger after what's happened, and the others glance at you, not exactly unfriendly, but definitely wanting to be left alone.
The woman introduces herself as Katya. Yes, I have, she says bluntly. I have family in a village down the coast and was visiting them three years ago when a group of raiders attacked, and took some folk down to their... lair, I suppose. They're said to live far beneath the ocean, and to hunt folks on land for sport more than for food. I know there were raids to Palma Flora in the past, but none in the last ten years.
Keyo, one of the men looks completely in shock, and is staring out to sea. He saw his wife... taken, Katya whispers to you. Gods, those beast took a lot of people. How in the hells did they make the earth shake like that? I'll never forget that. You wrap the blanket around the man; it's still warm, but you know the night will be chilly, and these people will need it.
You talk a little more with the people of Palma Flora. One of the refugees has been to Port Damali before, and seems confident they will be able to survive there - they plan to inform the authorities of the attack, and there will probably be a boat sent by the Zhelezo to investigate in due course - they hope to get a ride home on that.
The afternoon turns into evening, and as the sun goes down, the heat goes with it. It's not cold, exactly, but you find yourselves drawn to your hammocks and bed down for the night. Three of the sailors are dozing nearby, taking the chance to rest before their own night shift begins.
As you drift off to sleep, your minds turn over the events of the day, the fierce fight for survival against a hideous enemy, and the coming danger of the next few days. You are all tired, though, and it's easy to find sleep. You all wake in the morning and complete a long rest. You also reach level two.
(OOC: Please take a long rest using your character sheets, the button at the top. Please also level up, and let me know if you have any problems doing so.)
In the morning, you can talk to the villagers or crew again briefly if you wish, or we can push on to midday as you arrive in Port Damali.
OOC: If at any point Silent feels confident that the group is alone and not within earshot of anyone else on the ship (maybe right after everyone wakes up in the morning? If the other 3 sailors are no longer nearby), he will try to engage one or more of his companions (whoever seems receptive and isn't doing something else) in a conversation regarding the deal they made with the Captain.
He really doesn't want to be overheard so he is willing to wait until they dock if he doesn't feel confident enough on the Wavechaser.
(OOC: Arael will talk to Silent, if there's a chance we won't be overheard. Otherwise, she'll see if she can get more info from the crew regarding the sahuagin and their habits)
(OOC: Leveled up! No issues, I think, Thank Pelor my hit points went up!)
It's a small ship, but you can gather on the main deck and talk; you won't be able to hide the fact that you're having a private conversation, but it's unlikely anyone will manage to overhear you.
I'm surprised you weren't more...enthusiastic about a rematch with the Sahuagin. For a mercenary, I would think negotiations and diplomacy aren't your normal method of fixing a problem. I would've expected that from the elf or even Pockets.

So, Arael looks to her companions, I think we have a deal. I can't say I'm not looking forward to this rematch.

He turns to Pockets. You're probably the most familiar with these parts; you interested in a trip back home, or you reckon we should dock at one of the other ports?
Port Damali is my home, so I’m most familiar with it.
(OOC: Has Pockets been to these places? Even if he has, he’s probably only familiar with the ports and dockside parts of them.)
I would say so, but as you say, only to the ports and probably only to the odd tavern here and there; as a lowly crewmember he wouldn't have had much free time in port.
Which is closest to us?
Have a look at the map. :)
Looks like Port Damali is closest. The quicker we get supplies the sooner we can catch up with the chieftain. I don’t expect time is on our side.
"I think we are all onboard with the plan. Let us go get some supplies and gather what we need see this through."
Port Damali then. Three Earrings turns to Boerth: Tell our dear navigator. Oh, and the villagers too.

Arael moves up to the bow of the ship to chat with the refugees.
I understand this morning's events were...traumatic. Have you seen much of these sahuagin before?
(OOC: She's pressing them for info to see if she can learn anything about the enemy and their wants/needs)
