Silent unhooks a handaxe from his belt. Could be bandits, could be some kid lookin' for berries, or with our luck could be more berserk birds. Way I see it, we can hit 'em with one o' these(he brandishes the handaxe) or we can give a good yell, give 'em an opportunity to come out if they don't mean us no harm. You got any brighter ideas?
Alton readies his hand cross bow, "I've heard a story about some guards that spotted an ambush before. The guards just waited them out until the bandits got bored and came out on their own. Of course I don't think we have the time to really wait around for them to come out." He looks at the trees that caught their attention before giving Silent a wink and saying pretty loudly, "Hey Rincewind, I'm sure I saw something moving in those trees ahead. Why don't you toss a few fireballs at them? With the luck we've been having on this trip it is probably more of those perytons."
Alton shrugs, "Well that kind of worked." He turns to the caravan behind them and yells, "Get everyone back and to safety. Sounds like something big is coming for us."

He is going to Ready an attack with the handaxe if a hostile creature appears from the tree and makes an attack against him or any of the other members of the caravan. If a creature appears and does not seem to mean any immediate harm, he won't make the attack.
Silent, you race north, jumping a little to make the higher ground, and you see behind the tree a giant, mostly naked but holding a huge branch that serves as a weapon:

You hear the pounding of huge feet running, but not from this giant; something is approaching at a great speed from the east. You, and also Alton and Balassar, see another hill giant, club raised to attack, dashing towards you all. The rest of the caravan seems to be hanging back, not keen to get up close to such a dangerous foe, though you do see shortbows and crossbows being readied.
Alton will see the two giants, "Oh, well this isn't good." He will focus on the one in the road and move closer to it, getting within 30 feet of the giant. Once in range he says to the giant, "What do you call it when an kenku get angry? A vicious mockery," casting Tasha’s Hideous Laughter.
Movement: Moves within 30 feet of Giant2. Action: Casts Tasha’s Hideous Laughter at Giant2, DC 14 Wis save.

Alton, your spell seems to confuse the giant momentarily, but they seem not to understand it or find it funny.
Balassar uses a bonus action to grow to twice his normal size before moving to attack. He's not able to get in melee range of Giant 2, so he draws his crossbow, fires a bolt, then drops it and gets his scimitar ready:

You can tell it's not his favourite weapon; the shot goes massively wide.

Giant 1 stomps out of the bushes towards Silent, but stops, grins, picks up a large rock from nearby and throws it:

Silent, the rock comes at you much faster than you expected, and you don't manage to dodge it. The giant laughs, apparently finding this very funny, and it stays where it is, looking for another rock it seems.
There's a volley of crossbow bolts and arrows from the guards, as they shoot towards Giant 2:

Dazed from the impact, Silent slowly wipes blood from his forehead. He cranes his neck to look up at the giant, turns around to look back at the caravan, then turns back to the giant again and swears loudly. Nine hells...
He breaks into a run towards the giant, drawing his greatsword. Once adjacent to it, he'll summon his Echo. He then uses his Action Surge to take two Attack actions against the brute, and burns two uses of Unleash Incarnationto have the Echo make two attacks of its own. All four slashes are aimed at the giant's bulbous gut.

Giant 2 is definitely more interested in the large dragonborn that has just appeared, and with its branch swinging in the air, runs up to attack Balassar twice:

A glancing blow, deflected by Balassar's shield, and then a huge swing dodged by the surprisingly nimble fighter. The giant looks confused, but Balassar is unscathed.
Alton darts behind Balassar and moves to put himself between Balassar and Silent, while staying out of either giant's reach. As he runs behind Balassar, Alton will fire a bolt from his hand crossbow at the giant. "That is for not laughing a my joke." When he is close enough to Silent, Alton will say, "I'll see your nine hells and raise you one heal."
