In the dark and during Alton's first watch, there's the noise of movement coming down the road; Alton, you look, and though your eyes struggle with the darkness, you definitely hear footsteps coming towards you, and then charging towards you. You have time to rouse your companions and warn the caravan before you see ten large dog-like creatures headed off the main road and towards your camp. Four veer off to the guards, led by Captain Fray. The other six make for you.

Alton looks at their situation, "Well this isn't good. Two to one aren't the best odds." With that he will aim his hand crossbow at one of the further gnolls and take a shot. Afterwards, he will move ten feet closer to Balassar and Silent saying, "We fought these guys before, their bark is worse than their bite."
Action: Fire a crossbow bolt at G4, Attack: 19Damage: 7 Piercing. Movement: Moves just 10 feet to the left. Bonus Action: Gives Silent some bardic inspiration: Silent can add a 1d6 to one attack roll, saving throw, or ability check in the next 10 minutes.

Silent will use his bonus action to Manifest an Echo 15 feet to the right of Balassar before cautiously advancing into melee with Gnoll 1, attempting to finish the beast after Balassar landed his attack.
Alton gives Balassar a thumbs up saying, "Way to chill those gnolls out. Maybe they'll get cold feet for this fight." He will lock another bolt into his crossbow and fire at the gnoll he has a clear shot on.

Alton, the crossbow bolt sticks into the gnoll's left leg.

Gnoll 6 runs up to join Gnoll 2 in attacking the massive dragonborn in their midst, both with spears:

Soulkeeper swings in an arc and slices deep into the gnoll's torse; you pull it out and Gnoll 1 falls to the ground, dead.
Gnolls 3 and 4 step back and shoot with longbow, one at Balassar, one at the Echo:

The Echo pops into nothingness. Balassar also takes an arrow to the knee, but it barely hurts.
