"Alright, there is a way down inside that room. Just to be safe we should see what's behind that locked door, so we don't have any surprised coming from behind." Alton will move to the locked door, giving it a once over for traps before trying to unlock the door.
Balassar crashes through the door, and (in a sense) unlocks it. The broken remains of the door fall pathetically to the stone floor, revealing a storeroom that appears not to have been used in a long, long time. There are spider webs covering the room, but it does appear that the spiders are regular/small sized ones; you do not see any giant spiders that might attack you. On the sides of the storeroom are empty wooden shelves.
Swin says, "hmm, nothing. Rhane? Where are you? Hold on, let me ask these little buggers something, quiet now,"and approaches the small spiders and whispers through Speech of Beast and Leaf, "Sorry for the noise, won't happen again. We'll leave you be. If you wouldn't mind pointing where the big oafs like us who are usually here tend to go, I'd much appreciate it. I'll be sure to send some insects over to your webs when I see them."
To the others, she appears to be whispering to herself.
She then casts detect magic and moves about the room, looking for traps and other things of note.
Swin, the spiders seem to take a moment to think about it, and then a couple of them gesture in the direction of the other room, and more specifically to the hole leading down.
Your spell detects no magic in this area, but will remain active for the next ten minutes (you may want to remind me from time to time!).
Swin nods a thanks, and then does a 30 second sweep through the current room(s) to see if she missed anything hidden or notable. Investigation: 24
Then she nods to the room the spiders indicated. "I think they tend to go down through that hole. Brodi, can you take a look for us?"and the owl will fly down when the party is ready for him to scout.
Darren waits near the ladder for Brodi to do their thing. He puts his hand on Swin to steady her. This isn’t the first time they’ve done this after all. He hopes that whatever might be down there doesn’t notice the owl.
Through BrodiCam, Swin sees the passage down, the wooden ladder in good condition, the flicker of light at the bottom, and then emerging into the light.
Swin sees a small, empty room with a stone floor and stone walls. Lamps hang from the walls, and there is dust on the ground, dust which shows the footprints of many and frequent trips through.
In the west wall there is a door, open, but the bottom half of the door way is blocked by a wooden board that appears to have been set up as a barricade. Behind the barricade, there's just enough time to count one, two, three armed figures before the shout "Loose!" rings out, and three crossbow bolts fly.
The brigands are terrible shots (7, 7 and 12 against AC); but the 12 is just enough. Swin, you are knocked back into your own pair of eyes as Brodi vanishes to wherever it is they go. You would all have heard the cry from below, though it was rather muffled for everyone except Swin of course.
Swin comes back to herself with a disgruntled but furious expression on her face. “They killed my bird. Prepare your worst.” She explains exactly what she saw down there, with a diagram and gestures.
Before Swin can finish her sentence Darren has started making his way down the ladder. Intensely angry at Brodi’s demise even though he knows it’s only temporary. (Someone is of course able to try and stop him). He is fully intent on dealing with whatever caused it by himself.
(it was my intention, that Darren immediately started down the ladder as soon as Swin said “They killed my bird”. Unless of course anyone tries to stop him.)

Investigation: 23 (Nat 20!) to find any traps.
Be excellent to each other, and roll for initiative dudes!
Alton, you find no traps. Just a door with a keyhole.
Dexterity: 13 to try and open the lock with his Thieves' Tools.

Alton, the door remains closed and locked.
Balassar will look at Alton and then just tap his shoulder "Let me try friend." he says as he goes to kick the door in.
OOC:
Strength Check: 22 (18+4) rolled in game log, sorry accidentally rolled a saving throw first.

Nothing of interest, you are quite certain of that.
Is everyone ready to send Brodi down the hole?
Darren waits near the ladder for Brodi to do their thing. He puts his hand on Swin to steady her. This isn’t the first time they’ve done this after all. He hopes that whatever might be down there doesn’t notice the owl.
Balassar just waits to see what information the owl will bring back.
Brodi flaps down through the open trapdoor, towards whatever lies beneath.
Will Swin be observing through Brodi's eyes for this, or waiting for a report?
Swin pauses and shifts to Brodi's perspective, an owl VR helmet.
Through BrodiCam, Swin sees the passage down, the wooden ladder in good condition, the flicker of light at the bottom, and then emerging into the light.

As Darren starts to make his way down the ladder, Balassar will just follow "Lead the way then."
Okay then. Give me the order you are descending the ladder, and an initiative roll please.
Initiative: 15
