When I was younger and first learning to interact with people, I was very literal-minded. I now believe I understand how frustrating I must have been. Also, I’m amazed I wasn’t scrapped.
Ha! I ain't mean enough to leave someone alone when they're getting attacked. Been bailed out of too many scrapes myself to not lend a hand. He scratches his beard absentmindedly. 'Specially if she ends up hiring other guards - no reason anyone should get hurt on the road.
It takes some time to find the Zhelezo's base in the Restless Wharf, but you do find it. It's an impressive stone building and clearly one that a decent amount of money has been spent on, both to make it secure and it make it blend in with the surroundings. As you approach the steps leading inside, the two guards on duty at the door look at you both: State your business here, one says, moderately politely.
Silent raises a hand in greeting. I got information to share about the sahuagin threat. Can't promise to be of any help myself but I might be able to guide your next moves.
They take a look at your greatsword, and nod. Inside, door on the left, head to the office at the end. Lieutenant Sarda is the one you want. Happy hunting.
It doesn't take long to find the office of Lieutenant Sarda, a human woman with a fierce expression on her face. Mercs come to sign up? she asks hopefully. She stands up from her desk in what appears to be a new or recently cleaned office; there little clutter, little of anything really, just a cabinet and a bookcase with only a handful of books.
More like a merc with a story. I was on Palma Flora right before the sahuagin sank it. Went underwater after the island sunk to try and lop the head off their leader, a witch with some sort of magic widget that did the sinking. Obviously, I made a real mess of it - the witch must still be in command.
I ain't eager to go fighting them again. Barely escaped alive last time, and it turns out they can be reasoned with. If I were you, I'd try forging a treaty instead of swinging swords.
You were at Palma Flora? That’s where this all started. Word is there was some attempt at making a deal, but... well, we are where we are. So, you signing up or not?
What's your mission? You trying to kill the chieftain, or just making an isolated strike against a smaller band? And what's the strength of your forces like? Four of us weren't near enough last time - the only reason I'm alive is because the chieftain wanted us to kill a man for her and I agreed to it just to save my skin.
You... spoke with the sahuagin chieftain? She looks dismissive, but then another thought... Hold on, you’re saying you agreed to work for... Nah. Look kid, I don’t like people wasting my time. If you’ve got any skill using that big sword, I’ll sign you up but... You want to be careful telling tall tales like that round these parts. There have been attacks all across the Coast now. People dead, and people’s kin looking for blood. You start saying you’re in league with...
I'm in league with no one but myself and this man here. The sahuagin want me dead just as much as anyone... probably more, seeing as I didn't keep up my side o' the bargain. And I ain't smart enough to make up a story like this. I'm here to tell you that peace is on the table, end of story. The chieftain can be convinced to stand down. If you want to continue taking up arms, be my guest. But blood for blood won't end - you need to fight with words and deals now, I learned that well enough.
Killing more sahuagin won't stop the raids. If you want more intel, I'm willing to share it. But if my tall tales ain't welcome, I think we're done here.
I’ll accompany you.
Hanna shrugs as she stands up. You brought it up.
She leaves the tavern without saying another word.

Silent laughs. Maybe she's also made of metal, eh?
Might've let my temper get the better of me there... ah well, if she can't handle some lip I'm not sure she'll find any sellswords worth hiring.
Silent will leave the inn with Magnum and is making for the Restless Wharf.
If we run into her on our way to Felderwin, how much danger does she need to be in for you to feel compelled to help?

All I’m saying is, it had better be a lot of hyenas.
Three hyenas, then. Or five bandits - four if one of 'em has an eyepatch, those ones are always right bastards.
If we see a dragon she’s on her own.
Agreed. I ain't no use to anybody roasted - probably don't taste too good neither.

What would we be signing up to do? Mostly we wanted to see if there was information we could offer, but I am curious what your plan is.

Silent, if you’re trying to get this Zhelezo on side, you can make a persuasion check.
