Robwin, approaches Ulla and drops to his knee (really to put them at the same level, but also hoping his pose resembles that of a knight taking a knee before her). "Ulla of Gnomengarde, you are by far the bravest Rock Gnome I've ever met, truly...". He pauses there... And then, "The creature is dead... And it's thanks to you leading our search through these caverns from the very front...". He gives her a bow in the form of a brief nod, and smiles.
After a moment, his smile falters though, "But I have a confession to make... I took up your wand, and used it... ...It was AMAZING, I've never been able to produce such flame!! It, it, oh... But... I... It's...". He holds up the wand, now charred mostly black with soot, the wood blown out a little at the end, and still smouldering. A little trail of smoke drifting up off the tip... "Oh my, maybe I should just keep this one?" he says half hoping "and I'll get you a new one, or I can, umm... Do you have spares?... or... oh no... I'm sorry...".
He holds the tiny wand out laid out across both hands and offers it back to her, his eyes cast down to the floor...
Vimak considers how he is feeling. "A rest would be good," he says. He leans against a wall. "The beds here! I'll bet they are tiny. Maybe if we can line up a row of them? Or we'd be safe by the waterfall, right?"
"A rest sounds like a fine idea right about now."Prosper agrees, discreetly pouring herself a cup of wine and draining it unceremoniously. "I'm sure we'll be able to make arrangements. Should we sweep the rest of the cave? Or do we just report back to the king?"
"Dead as can be." She reassures Ulla. "In pieces." She glances down at the creature's corpse. "Speaking of, we should probably clean that up before we leave."
"Do you have a wagon? A little cart?" Vimak asks Pog. "Whatever you use to clean up large, wet, gooey messes in your workshops." He slings his shield on to his back and hangs his axe there as well. "We're ready to be helpful." Vimak begins rolling up his left sleeve and then his right.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Adas considers the dead creatures corpse and mess, "I will take a look. It should produce something I am sure." He walks over and crouches to observe and see what he can do.
Ulla blushes a bit at Robwin's sudden heroic demeanour. "O-oh. Okay then. I'll trust that it's actually dead." She clears her throat as he asks her about the wand. "W-well! If you want my wand, you can keep it. We have plenty here so you don't need to replace it. I can find a new one myself."Ulla and Robwin walk back to the wine room to join the group.
Adas tries to see if the creature can be harvested for anything useful but he, as well as the whole party, can see the creature has lost its form and is nothing more than a pile of slime-like substance.
Ulla looks at the remains of the creature. "I can get you guys a wagon if you want, but you don't need to clean up. We can do it ourselves. If you want to take a rest, the guard post or domiciles are open to you and I can get you some bread from the kitchen. If not, I'll lead you to the kings."
"Well, if you're sure you can manage yourself, we'll entrust the task to you! Quick dinner sounds good to me, certainly." Prosper nods, prodding at the gunk with a toe, "but how about we switch the order of those two, guys? Work before play, or something along those lines. Tahnis? What do you think? You're the one most in need of a rest, after all."
Being underground is messing with Robwin’s sense of time, “Ulla, how do you track time down here?! What time is it?”.
Then he marvels, “So much has happened since we left the Inn this morning! Is it still the same day?! Maybe we can finish up here and still get back to the Inn for a proper rest in a bed?”.
Robwin nods at Prosper’s ideas, then looks over at Tahnis. “Maybe we should have a short rest here so Tahnis can get some of his strength back? And we can all have something to eat. Then report to the king? And if it’s not too late, head back to town? Ulla, do you still need us to sweep the rest of the caverns? What else do you have over this side we haven’t seen?”.
Robwin fills his cup with wine again from the barrel. He goes and sits down next to Tahnis and offers him the drink. ”You writing about all this?... It’ll make a fine story one day!”. He sits, turning his new, gnome-sized, wand over and over in his hands, examining it.
Ulla shrugs. "Time doesn't really matter here, as long as we get our work done, we sleep and stay awake when ever we want. I don't think we need to go through the rest of the caves but if you want to, we haven't been to the kitchen, pantry and crab room yet."
Seeing Tahnis settle down and getting ready for a rest, Ulla heads to the entrance. "Since we're resting, I'll go get some food to go along with the wine. I'll be right back!" She leaves the room and heads to the north.
"Ulla, where is Pog," Adas asks as he comes up empty handed from the goop on the floor, looking about for the gnome. He moves and wipes his hands on a rag he keeps tucked in his belt for such occasions.
Looking at the goo, Vimak seems relived they won't have to try and scoop it up. He settles against the wall not far from Tahnis to wait for the mushroom bread. This room might be a good place to rest. If nothing else, they have wine!
He will take his whetstone out of his bag and begin sharpening his axe. "Resting before keeping our promise to the kings sounds good to me," he says.
When Ulla comes back with food, Robwin will immediately ask “What’s a ‘Crab Room’?!”.
And once they’re well into a short rest, he’ll eventually ask her about magic: “I’m studying Abjuration magic at the Academy in Neverwinter. If you ever want to research there, or visit, I’ll make sure you’re welcome... “.
”But for now, being on the road makes it hard to study... or get magical components... Do you know where I might find things like: spell books, scrolls, magic items, andrare spell components like diamonds and pearls? Do the Rock Gnomes have any written spells or components?”.
"No idea what the time is." Prosper admits freely. "Mostly I'm guessing, because it sure feels like dinnertime around now." She happily picks out a spot on the floor away from the goo and sits down, leaning over to the barrels to pour herself another glass of mushroom wine. "Yeah."She agrees with Robwin noisily after swallowing a mouthful of wine. "A crab room? Is that what it sounds like?"
(Everyone can take a short rest and roll hit die, if needed.)
Ulla returns with a handful of bread and cheese. She sits with the group of the floor, placing the food on the a small piece of cloth. She shrugs at Adas' question about Pog. "I don't know where he is. He went another direction from me."
As the group begin to ask about the crab room, she gives every a look of confusion and amusement. "The crab room is where we keep the crabs, obviously!"
To Robwin, her eyes widen at his suggestion for her to visit Neverwinter."Wow... I've never actually been to a city before. I wonder what it looks like... Well, I'm sure in those cities, you can find all sorts of magic stuff, huh? We don't really have much here. Well, actually, we have a lot of magical items but no scrolls or books or anything like that. I can get you a pearl if you need one, as well."
Robwin seems happy to reminisce about the city he grew up in, for Ulla, "It's all I know really, 'The City'... In comparison, travelling seems wonderful and dangerous!... Although I guess the city can be wonderful and dangerous too... but in different ways!... ...Where I grew up, we were relatively safe. And the magical colleges must be some of the safest places, anywhere!! And beautiful! Oh, you'd love the Academy, the towers, the spires, the books....".
"And yes, you're never far away from the things you need in the city... Maybe that's the challenge of our final assignment: to succeed far away from the Colleges...".
"Wait, you have lots of magical items?!...Where? Here?... Wow, what kinds of things?", he says in wonder. And then half joking, "Ha!, You don't happen to have anything that can stop a Dragon do you?! Ha ha!" and he chuckles at the thought........ But his heart quickly sinks as he remembers the fearsome creature he saw over the forest nearby.
And then "What did you say?? A pearl? You can get me a.....? What? How?......We had access to them at the Academy, of course, but they were always kept locked away under the crystal-domes of the School of Divination.......... If you truly know where to find me a pearl, I would be forever in your debt!".
"I'd be interested in crab. It's very delicious. Butter," Vimak says. "But we said we'd help the town by talking to the kings. We ought to do that too." He puts his whetstone away and picks up the heavy crossbow. "We could talk to the kings while we feast!" he says.
