With the death of Gadrille, all of you have struck a great blow to the plans of the Cult of Talos in the immediate area. Lelion is now safe. The question remains, what to do next?
After the cleansing of the influence of the Cult of Talos, the Wayside Inn's new owner, Martisha, needs to assess her situation, repair the damage, and find new staff. She might hire any of you to travel to one of the larger cities to recruit talent.
You could build a home in Lelion. With you all proving yourselves to be the heroes that Leilon needs, the town council might offer one or more of you a parcel of land. You can spend money and resources, as well as time, building your home.
You could build other structures. It is still early in the process of rebuilding Leilon, and there is much to do. The construction of the palisade has barely begun. Most of the people are still living in tents outside of town. The fishing industry, which will sustain Leilon in the future, needs piers and docks and breakwaters and other structures.
You can do any number of things. Perhaps this is where you retire. Perhaps you press on? The choice is up to you.
The renegade drow assassin had finally found a reason to stop running from place to place - a reason to perhaps linger with a group of people he could trust. This strange and eclectic group was the first time in a very long time he felt a connection to - like the family he had never really known. Lanarial wasn't much for building things, but he could certainly run security, and intelligence operations. A new town on the frontier needs an enforcer - someone who can get things done. Someone who can keep the monsters away. He was a hunter, after all. The swift and silent death that one never saw coming...
But first, there was a certain soon-to-no-longer-be-a-bachelor that needed to drink too much ale with the boys and celebrate his impending imprisonment - umm, marriage.
The captain grinned as the dark-skinned half-elf walked into the office. "And that is one Cult of Talos cleaned out," she said smugly. "Leilon's safe as a queen in her castle."
Dana chuckled. "So...all right until some new, creative threat pops up?"
"Precisely." Vi kissed Dana's cheek. "How would you like to use our time?"
"I was actually thinking..." Dana smiled faintly, taking Vi's hand. "What if you did a little less running off? We could use someone to make our guards a little less...clumsy in the woods. We could use a force devoted to wilderness activity, for that matter."
Vi raised an eyebrow. "Why Dana, are you offering me a job?"
"I am." Dana grinned. "What do you say?"
"Hmmm...I have a few conditions. Everyone gets basic training first. I choose the specialty force myself after a month of woods training. And you'll have to be all right with us operating more independently on our missions. We can't check with a superior for permission when we're in the middle of the woods."
"I think all of that can be arranged." Dana laughed. "Anything else?"
"That's all the conditions, but...I do have a request." Vi smiled softly. "Will you let me show you the woods? Just the two of us. There's a glade you'll love."
"Deal." Dana kissed Vi again. "Now, we have a lot of work to do, Specialist Kaua."
"Excuse me, I think I'm a higher rank than Specialist."
The two women chatted all the way out of the office and to the training area.
High above Phandalin, a raven circled once. He remembered his first wizard master fondly, almost as fondly as Vi.
Tex Arkana went on a nice long trip beneath the waves with Iridansa, their journey and subsequent journeys continued on until Tex was a very old man, dying happily in his sleep beside the woman he loved.
