Gareth-Wyn snorts as the littler people shuffle out to go beat up the remnants of the rat force. He grows more somber when he sees the graves, and traces a rune in the air before them with a bow of respect. Hefting his greatsword, he grins towards the exuberant dwarves. He takes point, whenever the group is ready to go see about rooms A-D.

”whew! After clearing this mine out, I’m going to need a rest!” He wipes more sweat off his face and arms. Patting Fern he psyches himself up to continue. His breathing is starting to relax a bit after using his breathing device but it’s still very ragged. He maintains proximity to Iri.
"How did the wererats get control of the mine? There must have been a lot of them, or they were with something worse. What can you tell us? And are there any areas in the mines we should be careful of - you know, where it might cave in on a hidden pit..."
Whenthe miners are done talking and ready to go, Lanarial takes point and leads the rag-tag group of miners onwards.
"We're not sure!" one dwarf says. "We killed some of them, but their sheer numbers eventually overwhelmed us. There's been no cave ins, and there's no pits that we know of."
Your exploration of areas A, B, C, and finally D yield nothing but storage areas that contain mining equipment and cots. You have successfully cleared the mine!! Yay!!
Butterskull Ranch Quest - INCOMPLETE “Orcs have attacked Butterskull Ranch, five miles east of Conyberry along the Triboar Trail! Travel there with haste, assess the damage, and help any way you can. Ranch owner Alfonse “Big Al” Kalazorn is a retired sheriff who can reward you for your efforts. If he’s dead, return to Townmaster Harbin Wester with proof of Kalazorn’s demise to receive a reward of 100 gp.”
Loggers’ Camp Quest. - INCOMPLETE“Deep in Neverwinter Wood, along the river that flows west toward Neverwinter, is a logging camp. Every two months, Phandalin delivers fresh supplies to the camp, which is run by the half-brother of Phandalin’s townmaster, Harbin Wester. Barthen, the local provisioner, has prepared a new delivery. He needs someone to bear the supplies safely to the camp. Return to Harbin Wester with a notice of delivery signed by his half-brother, Tibor Wester, to claim your reward of 100 gp.”
Mountain’s Toe Quest. - COMPLETE! “The Mountain’s Toe Gold Mine lies fifteen miles northeast of Phandalin. The new overseer, Don-Jon Raskin, just made the trip from Neverwinter to Phandalin and needs to be escorted to the mine. There’s no telling what dangers lie between here and there. Once you deliver Raskin safe and sound, return to Townmaster Harbin Wester to collect a reward of 100 gp.”
"Well that was a lot," Iri says after they clear the rest of the mine. Looking at the new overseer, "Enjoy your new job, try not to let any more of those in." Turning to the rest of the group she asks, "Time to go rescue the sheriff?"
"Yes - it's probably at least a day and a half away - we can rest up on the way."The drow rogue sets off without looking back. He was doing his best to counter a decade plus of enmity taught him as a youth for dwarves, and humans, and especially top-side elves. These people were continuing to help him grow past these biases.
Traveling along the Triboar Trail towards Butterskull Ranch, Lanarial resumes his usual role - scouting ahead and to the sides of the group, looking for trouble. And plants - to concoct a new batch of poison...
“Is it possible for someone else to take the reins for a bit? I need a bit of a lay down .”
Tex will pass out in the wagon, breaking out into feverish sweats, shakes, and mumbles. Fern will lay on top of Tex to keep him from writhing off the wagon, but he does not look good. The bite on his neck is swollen and throbbing with black veins twisting and stretching from the infected wound.

Tex: You have feverish dreams, and not to mention a very fitful sleep. Your body aches, your shivering, you have a loss of appetite - everything you would expect when you have a pretty serious infection of some sort.
As you travel to the Ranch, you pass through Conyberry. The abandoned town of Conyberry is eerily silent except for the whistling of the wind as it blows through the settlement’s burned and crumbled-down structures. As you make their way through the ruins, you spot three unsaddled riding horses grazing near an old well.

Lanarial was still not quite used to horses - the creatures were not to be found in the Underdark. He had heard they were quite the delicacy, and so common in the Above that people used them for work. But still, he was observant and knew that three horses abandoned in an abandoned town was not normal...
The town of Conyberry is deserted. You can see the ranch off in the distance. You spot a single cow in the distance in a grass field between here and the ranch. How unusual.

Vi nods. "Yep. Okay. Cool. Glad we could help, now let's go deal with the rest of them, yeah?" She follows Gareth.

Excellent! The horse, with the help of Lanarial and Iri, remains calm as you approach it. The horse is branded with the initials "BAK".
"Big Al Kalazorn - BAK. Maybe some of the ranch hands are here - fleeing from the orcs? Better check around for them..."

"Yes," Vi agrees. "Let's take a look, and while we're doing that, Iri, do you think you could take a look at Tex and see what's wrong?"

That's a good enough roll to know that when he was bit by the wererat, he probably contracted the curse as well.
