With that bit of business out of the way Vince is anxious to find his wife and son. He quickly retrieves a beaten up sword from his tent "Everyone stay close. Walk where I walk. As we get closer there are many traps and we'll have to be quiet."
He starts leading the party southeast through the woods.
As he's walking his heads over his shoulder "You know that nobody at the camp is going to leave these woods on their own. Most of the people came because they had no place to live, or no work and they were offered food and shelter... for a price. It starts out simple enough. Chop wood, cook some meals, use whatever skill you have to help out around the camp. Then you start getting asked to do little 'favors'. You know, a repayment for being taken in. Usually it's nothing too dangerous. Deliver this there, listen to so and so here, loosen up this or that cart wheel, and you get paid pretty well. Of course you have to give some of it back for what they say is your guild fees but it's really just them skimming off the top. Before too long you're making a pretty good living. Better than any living you ever had in the city. So anyway. Folks don't want to leave. For some the camp is the only real home they've ever known."
"Wait, before we get too close, can you give us any tactical information about the camp?" Mystwaen asks. "Also, who's asking you to do these 'favors'?"
"That's unfortunate... The prince gave orders... They're going to need to find new homes... Who knows, maybe Gilder will trade them..." Bogue says around the pipe in his teeth, he knows better than to have it lit right now.
"The plains of Gilder do offer plenty of land for farming and hearding animals. There is also some good fishing along the shores if you can tolerate occasionally fighting a shrieking eel for your catch" Charisma turns her attention squarely at Vince, "Tell us more about the Pit where you believe they are holding Jake. How big is it? How many entrances and exits? How many men are usually stationed to guard it? Let's map out an attack plan."
"And more importantly, is everyone armed? Should we be expecting a fight? I mean a real fight, not just resistance to being moved on."Rasskan seems a little concerned that the group may be a little under resourced to get these people to do as they're asked.
As you continue through the forest he says "We should make a plan for sure. We have some time, a few hours, before reaching the camp. I'm sure they'll be expecting that crew we just dispatched to be returning with Me and Helga but if we move quickly we should have some time to take them unaware." He lets out a grunt "Unless my wife gets there first, then I don't know"
"As regards to who asks these favors that would be 'Bloodfang' or well, one of his lieutenants, but the orders all come from Bloodfang. Stupid firggin name. I think his real name is Henry or Irwin or something, but that's not very scary so... Anyway, he runs the whole show. And yeah, he will fight. I think many will if they are rallied. Perhaps they would loose heart if Bloodfang weren't there to rally them though." He looks back to the group with a pointed glance.
Continuing to answer questions "There isn't really an entrance or exit as it's in the forest but there is a main road in. I'm not sure about how many will be guarding the perimeter. Before I left there was talk of starting a regular patrol but I'm afraid I don't know if that ever happened or how many. I would think they aren't too far from camp but I can't be sure"
"The Pit is just what it sounds like. Its about 10' around but maybe 30' deep. It's lined with smoothed off logs and has a heavy iron grate that covers it. The grate has a small hatch that's secured by 2 locks. Bloodfang holds one key, but I don't know who holds the other. They seem to pass it off from lieutenant to lieutenant.
" So it sounds like, if we find Bloodfang and take him down. The masses without a leader might be less eager to do battle with us and more likely to disperse. He will also have the key to the pit, " Charisma summarizes. "Where should we look for boldly named ringleader? The tavern? Local brothel? The latrine?"
"Yes, that may be the best strategy." Vince replies to Charisma. "He mostly stays in his house. It's easy to spot. It's really the only thing in the camp that could be called a house. There are some cabins, huts and tents but his is the only house. I'd guess he has bolt holes and secret escape paths but I can't be sure. I've never been inside. From the outside it has a front door and there's one window on each of the remaining 3 sides."
"So the leader of this patrol we just killed, he was Bloodfang's lieutenant?" Mystwaen inquires, "And these amulets they had on them would have no use in all of this?"
To Mystwaem he replies "No, though I've not seen one personally, I've heard the lieutenants wear gold amulets. I don't know how useful the silver one would be. It may buy some lee-way with some of the newer folks at camp but past that..." After a minute "It porobably does have a basement but I'm sorry I couldn't tell you anything about it" he says to Edith.
(Sorry! I just realized how I asked that. Edith meant that it probably has a basement and separately asks how big the house is, and how hard it is to get to the house. Sorry XD)
He takes a moment to mull that over. "Well. I guess that's really up to you. He considers himself safe so going through the front door may work, but he's no fool so I'd guess he has some kind of security. There's enough of us we could try to make a coordinated attack through the windows and maybe take him unaware?"
"So Wil and I seem to have this whole shield thing down. What if we approach at the front door? Wil, you stay hidden under my cloak. We get in find Bloody Tooth. In the meantime, Bogue can you start a fire that lures everyone else out of the house? Maybe Edith can play Damsel in distress and everyone else can take them down as they come out to help. Once we walk out with their leader bound, they shouldn't resist much anyway." Charisma looks around for a reaction. "I mean unless we just want to all run in raising hell? I could do that too if my damn sword would cooperate" she tapped her sheathed blade as though giving it a displinary tap on the head.
"I'm all for going in weapons drawn," Mystwaen says, spinning her axe in her hand, "but it might be a better idea to go strategic on this one. I think surrounding the house and taking out the leader first, then dealing with the rest of the town is a good plan. A distraction might not be bad either, perhaps a fire on the side of camp opposite to the house? I've a feeling we're going to need our fighting power to attack this 'leader'."
"I could use thaumaturgy and make it seem as though a dragon came." Edith offers. "If we start a fire, I would increase its brightness and make loud roaring sounds," she adds.
Seeing an opportunity to show off, Rasskan grabs a torch from Will's pack with his Mage Hand. "Could this help?" he says while waiving the unlit torch around 15ft in the air.

(What time of day is it now?)
"I can handle... a fire."
