OOC: Rastaris' powers are not strong enough to break through dimensions...yet.
Rastaris checks the the scraps of paper on the floor to see if there is any writing on them. After that he then proceeds to check the debris in EF78.
He puts away his crossbow and takes out his staff to sift through the debris.
He muses that the wizard the innkeeper hired definitely passed though here since he placed a rune at the door. Since he did not return, he was presumed to be dead. If the rats did kill him and eat him, his bones and belongings should be around here. Especially the 100GP fee he received from the innkeeper.
And another thing -- where are these rats coming from. They must be getting in from somewhere -- some breach in the foundations. And given their numbers, there might even be a nest someplace here. What is curious is that so far, assuming the wizard was able to cast something before he was taken down, why haven't they seen any rat bones or signs of any battle?
Farnakees stands guard by the door. Despite the stench, his stomach grumbles. He hopes the rest of the party searches the place quickly, but doesn't say anything.
He wonders where that smell is coming from. Does it remind him of anything?
Rastaris stares at the pile of garbage for several minutes; he sees the same thing the others have, but he senses a pattern of sorts. After a few more minutes of staring, he starts to see what it is.
This is a pile of garbage, but there is a haphazard order to it. There are potato skins, orange peels, and spilled grain scattered on the floor, but they're not mixed together. It's clear to Rastaris that the rats devoured the food, but they were almost orderly about it. Almost all the potato skins are in one part of the pile, the orange peels in another, etc. It's as if the rats separated or segregated the food before eating it.
OOC: Garbage segregation! They’re environment-friendly left-wing rats! Much better than most people in Southeast Asia (save for Singapore) and China. 😊
Mithrokk inspects the crates in C7 first then works his way to B7 and A7.
Rastaris ponders on his discovery. This is not normal. The rats are beasts but they seem to be acting more than mere animals.
He addresses they party and shares his discovery.
"This is suddenly not a simple extermination. Be careful. There is more than meets the eye here."
Before he starts poking around, he tells Mithrokk, Lathalas, and Farnakees in a whispered voice: "I feel that we are not dealing with simple vermin here. Even worse, I feel we are being led on. May I request that you be ready to defend me as I inspect the crates."
Moving besides Mithrokk, Rastaris waits for the others to get into position. When they are ready, he investigates the crates in C7. Knowing now what to look for, he tries to see if there exists some pattern in the crates.
OOC: The crates are intact so they are undamaged? The rats have not made holes to get what is inside?
The crates look like they've been broken into, but they contain non-food items that appear more or less to have been left alone by the rats. Most are are now useless, but the party can recover the following if they wish -- 2 bullseye lanterns, 10 flasks of oil, 20 candles, 10 torches, 2 iron pots, a merchant's scale, 10 bars of soap, 3 locks, 10 empty glass bottles, and 10 empty sacks.
Mithrokk asks Farnakees to light some of the torches and place them in the empty sconces on the walls. Perhaps 1 every 10 feet along the 60ft corridor. for 6 torches. Turning to Farnakees, he says, "The elves and I can see well enough in the dark but twould suit us all for you and Rast to see danger well enough. Light some of these torches and set them on the walls, will ye?"
The rest of the items (candles, oil, locks, etc) can be stuffed in an empty sack.
Or perhaps Rastaris can use his unique telepathic link to the gigantic anomaly in control of Dillion?

OOC - Farnakees thinks that it reminds him of garbage and rotten food.
OOC - Rastaris make an Investigation check.
OOC - Mithrokk, roll an Investigation check.
OOC - Your search efforts are all focused at the debris, correct? No one is searching the still intact crates.
Investigation: 14
Mithrokk will check the debris first then the intact crates afterwards.
Mithrokk searches the debris like Lathalas earlier, but also finds nothing of interest. Which crates are you examining?
Investigation Check: 8
Yes, just the debris for me. Depending on the result, will move to the crates next.

Farnakees notices that Rastaris has been staring at the garbage pile for quite a while: "What does your augury portend?" he asks the mage...

Farnakees moves beside the mage, as requested (to D8).
Alianna helps Rastaris with his investigation by looking at the crates in C8.

OOC - What do you guys want to do now?
Farnakees suggests to the party to take the torches for those that need them, as well as the oil, in case the party wants to roast some more rats.
Farnakees takes an extra torch (he already has one in his pack) and 2 flasks of oil.
"Hmmm... no dead wizard here." He moves to the other set of crates and nudges them with his scimitar (to D1)
Mithrokk asks Farnakees to light some of the torches and place them in the empty sconces on the walls. Perhaps 1 every 10 feet along the 60ft corridor. for 6 torches. 80 foot corridor. There are two more doors to the servants quarters at the end of the hall.
"Obsessive compulsive vermin? Intelligent rats? Or hive-mind swarms?"
Farnakees addresses the noble dwarf: "Makes sense. Let's finish up here, and I can light the corridor when we're in eyeshot of each other."
"Right. Let's get on with that. Rastaris? Lathalas? Alianna? Are ye satisfied with yer inspections?"
OOC: Right - 80 feet so 8 torches.
