OOC: Are there any signs of where the rats may have come from? Holes in the walls? Or would it be safe to assume that the rats smelled the food, chewed through the door, and ate with gusto before carefully separating their garbage?
If no other interesting signs, Lathalas will move out into the corridor and inspect the other barrels and crates here.
OOC - Yup, the corridor is 80x40 feet. Which poor schmuck went down the corridor putting the torches in their sconces? Farnakees? Roll 3 separate Perception checks please.
OOC: The innkeeper kept the cellar locked, right? No signs of rats going above either. Are the holes on the outside walls? North and west... What about south?
OOC to the DM: All the items came from the two sets of crates (South and North)?
Did the debris pile in the North show the same segregation pattern?
OOC to Tristan: The light source you have has the following radius: Until the spell ends, the object sheds bright light in a 20-foot radius and dim light for an additional 20 feet.
OOC to the group: Are we checking the barrels and crates before checking the door?
"We can pick up these items on the way back. Maybe, if we're lucky, we can sell them in Phandalin. At the very least, we can use them ourselves."
"Let us continue our search then. Mithrokk, let us proceed to the door you were interested in earlier."
Rastaris makes sure to be alert not to go near any area which is covered with rubbish/debris. He does not want to chance activating a rune which is hidden.
"Step carefully. The wizard may have placed additional runes along this corridor."
Rastaris will be behind the melee guys. He instructs Xelote to watch the rear. (The rats maybe able to travel freely in this space through tunnels. They may try to come from behind.)
"Rastaris, would you enchant this dead rat that it may shine like Lashrael and Felarathael? Then Farnakees, would you chuck this as far down the corridor as you might? The better to see what's at the end."

"What an inspired idea, Lathalas!", Alianna enthuses.
OOC - Lathalas, you guys are under the inn now. That means you should be surrounded by bedrock, which also means no place for rats to pass through. The holes in the walls of the storeroom (most are on the west side) suggest this is not the case. Mithrokk, please make a Perception or Investigation check (your choice).
OOC - Rastaris and Alianna, the list of items is what you can recover from all the intact crates in the storeroom.
OOC - Lathalas, roll a d6 and multiply it by 10 to see how far you throw your lighted rat. Also roll a Constitution check since you''ve been playing with a dead rat (to check for disease).
OOC - So Lathalas lifted up the first barrel before the eastern door? That's what you wrote in the post above, right? Because you did say you were wary, make a Dexterity save with advantage.
OOC - I just saw the map you posted. We can use it, but back up Lathalas to J7. Everyone else is as positioned on the map.

OOC: No one yet... Keeping the party together....
OOC - Finally, an interesting question. Yes, there are holes in the walls of the storeroom. Maybe the stone blocks crumbled or cracked over the years.
OOC: The innkeeper kept the cellar locked, right? No signs of rats going above either. Are the holes on the outside walls? North and west... What about south?
OOC: Has anyone inspected the crates in A/B 1/2 and D-F 1/2? if not:
Alianna checks the debris for the same patterns Rastaris noted and checks the crates for anything useful.
OOC: After that, I'm ready to go down the corridor with the others.
OOC to the DM: All the items came from the two sets of crates (South and North)?

"I'll take point on this."
Lathalas moves the crates and barrels, hoping to reveal any other hidden runes. He's ready to jump away should he find one.
He will not move past the first door on the eastern wall.
"Rastaris, would you enchant this dead rat that it may shine like Lashrael and Felarathael? Then Farnakees, would you chuck this as far down the corridor as you might? The better to see what's at the end."
"What an inspired idea, Lathalas!", Alianna enthuses.
Lathalas bows toward Alianna.
"Unfortunately, as soon as I cast Light on this carcass, the enchantment on the sword will end."
"I do see the utility of what you are proposing"
Rastaris takes a torch and lights it. Carrying the torch in his right hand, he then casts light on the dead rat being held by Lathalas.
OOC: Remember Rastaris and Farnakees don't have dark vision.
"A scimitar embedded in the body of a ghoul casts no light."
OCC: Perhaps on the shield next time?
OOC: Or on your forehead so it casts the light where you look. And with your bald head ... shine bright like a diamond. 🎵🎶🎵
If Lathalas was the only one who traveled down the corridor to J10 and that triggers three Perception checks, here they are:
