OOC: Last entry for the night, guys. Because you entered the room with the remains of Alchamazar the Red, and found his journal, the party has achieved the adventure threshold for this level. All characters advance to level 2! Fix up your character sheets tomorrow with your new stats and abilities. You can decide your next move tomorrow.
Ripped and shredded pages fall out of the tome when Rastaris opens it. It appears to be a combination journal and spellbook, but many of the entries and many of the spells are now missing pages. The tome also smells strongly of rat urine.
If the party reads the tome, the following entries can be made out:
"The journal and spellbook of Alchamazar the Red."
"I need to stop wearing red robes. Everyone I meet suspects I am a Red Wizard of Thay."
"Kill the innkeeper, his servants, and guests. Animate them as zombies to fool people into thinking the inn is still occupied. Use Unseen Servants to dig. Good plan."
"I don’t have to kill anyone. The innkeeper is paying me to go into the ruins. Better plan."
"My problem is red is the only color associated with fire that I look good in. I look like a fat feline when I wear orange."
"Rats. Stupid rats. I hate stupid rats."
"Rats not so stupid after all."
"Who is the master of Burning Hands? I am the master of Burning Hands! Ask the barbecued rats."
"The rats keep coming back ... the magic of the idol perhaps?"
"I look good in blue, though. What if I started casting blue-flamed Fireballs? That would allow me to justify a change in color ..."
"The silver rats are enchanted. Be wary of them."
"Obviously, it is the rat idol that is hidden here. A pity it is not one of the greater idols, like the wolf or the boar."
"Using Unseen Servants not a good idea. They are not very strong and take forever to dig through the wall."
"Note to self: create a new, stronger version of Unseen Servant. Sell to other wizards, become rich."
"The idol is likely cursed. Remember to use the scroll to lift curses that I purchased immediately after grabbing the idol."
"Unseen Servants are taking too long. Rats have taken over both storerooms."
"Placed traps along the corridor. Rats can’t bother me now."
"According to the map I stole from the Shrine of Savras, the Unseen Servants are almost through!"
"Can Unseen Servants tailor cloth? I know I saw some nice blue cloth at Barthen's Provisions in Phandalin ..."
"I can see the idol! Scrolls of flight and levitation are prepared."
"There’s too much water flowing into the cave. A stream on the surface, perhaps?"
And the final entry: "Can rats climb up walls?"
Aside from the above entries, there is also a fragment of a map showing a large cave with some sort of pyramid or ziggaurat inside it.
Despite some badly-bitten pages, there is also an intact Unseen Servant spell in the tome.
"Let's report back to the Innkeeper that there's something still down in the cellars, and to keep it sealed," Farnakees suggests, picking up a few rats by the tail for the kitchen.
OOC to DM: Mithrokk will now have access to spellcasting but 4 out of 15 1st Level paladin spells in the PHB are not accessible in the DnD Beyond char sheet unless the online PHB is purchased for USD 30. To save on the purchase, can I instead just list the missing 4 here for you and note in my char sheet which ones I will prepare for that day?
These are the 4 missing spells: 1) Compelled Duel, 2) Searing Smite, 3) Thunderous Smite, 4) Wrathful Smite (Pretty much the ones Mithrokk will be using a lot.)
Rastaris checks out the Western Room then if he find nothing, joins Lathalas in the Eastern Room.
He instructs Xelote to watch the breach in the wall and warn him if anything comes out.
Investigation Western Room: 20
Investigation Eastern Room: 16
Alianna, assisted by the Mage Hand, collects the gold from the floor and divides it among the party.
OOC: If no one is checking the pack, Alianna will do that as well.
OOC: Is the tunnel big enough for the Goliath to go through?
Mithrokk inspects the beds in the western room and if they look soft and bereft of activity, he will make himself comfortable on one of them.
Lathalas watches Mithrokk and when he sees the dwarf comfortable on a bed, he makes chittering rat noises.
OOC - Sorry, that' supposed to be a large tome next to the wizard.
OOC - If Rastaris's Detect Magic enchantment is still up, he notices that the pointy hat appears to be enchanted.
OOC: In the words of my spirit animal... Daffy Duck.... Gimmie gimmie gimmie, mine mine mine.
Rastaris sees if he can safely secure the Hat and the Tome (making sure they are not trapped).
If it isn't trapped, what spells are contained in the tome. (Rastaris examines this near Mithrokk -- just in case)
Lathalas wonders if this is the Hat of Vecna.
Mithrokk thinks it's the Sorting Hat and wonders if he'll get sent to Hufflepuff.

OOC: Huzzah
OOC: I am presuming we are taking a long rest here.
Before we turn in, I'd like to find out what's in the pack? Are there any scrolls mentioned in the journal.
To the DM: Would Rastaris know who Savras is? Were the torn pages cleanly torn or do they look like they were nibbled on by rats.
OOC: Rastaris can make a Religions check.
"Let's report back to the Innkeeper that there's something still down in the cellars, and to keep it sealed," Farnakees suggests, picking up a few rats by the tail for the kitchen.
"Maybe avail of the Inn's services..."
Religion Check: 21
OOC: We split the Gold between those who entered the cellar. Do you want to add that to the each inventory.
OOC: No issues with splitting and updating the inventories.
OOC: Nobody wants to check the tunnel?
OOC: At 2HP, not me.
OOC: How do we handle HP leveling up? Average or roll then take the average of lower?
OOC - Take the average.
To the DM: What are the contents of the pack?
OOC: How did the wizard die? How recent?
