Farnakees sighs, not wanting to leave business unfinished. He scratches his head, rats swinging by his ear. "Are we forging on then? The wizard seems weary."
Studying the tunnel, Mithrokk realizes something he should have figured out earlier -- the stonework in the corridor is much older than the stonework he saw in the tavern. He suspects now that the humans probably built the inn over an existing ruin, incorporating whatever this structure used to be and turning it into a cellar.
He also figures out why the human wizard complained about the slow pace of his Unseen Servants. The tunnel is not level with the cellar, but actually slopes downward. The Hoo-man did not realize that he made his task harder by digging a longer tunnel.
Mithrokk can also see that there is no way to go on from here. The tunnel was not completed, though there is a hole in the bedrock at the end of the tunnel.
The sound of running water is coming from behind the hole.

Mithrokk relays this information to the party. He then suggests they rest while considering their next actions.
Not wanting the Innkeeper to send another bunch of adventurers down the cellar, Farnakees walks back to the cellar entrance and lets the Innkeeper know through the door that everything's fine so far, but there are still rats that could be dangerous. Farnakees asks if he could borrow some pickaxes and shovels from the innkeep so the party can get to the source of the infestation. OOC: If none, Farnakees gives innkeep 6 gold pieces if any can be purchased nearby and waits for the tools before going back down.
Farnakees then starts skinning the rats, builds a small fire (not so smokey) fire from broken barrels, and starts roasting and munching. No one takes his offer to tasty rat. Farnakees takes then next available watch after the Wizard and the Paladin.
OOC - Yup, about a day to Phandalin; you were almost there when the storm hit, and you detoured to the inn.
Lath accepts the longbow and arrows from Alianna.
OOC: Updated Lath's equipment
Investigation: 9
Investigation: 6
OOC: Take the higher roll

His expectations for a snack dwindling....
OOC: Ok. Updated Alianna's as well.

OOC: How long is the tunnel? What would we need to breakthrough the hole to allow passage? (Apart from TNT.)
OOC - I gave the length of the tunnel above/ Good old-fashioned muscle and steel will probably allow you to break through the bedrock.
OOC: Does Mithrokk think the running water is from some kind of underground river?
"Let's rest."
Before turning in, Rastaris asks Mithrokk, given how he knows the tunnel slopes down, would he know how far it would be to reach the otherside.
To the DM: During the Long Rest, Rast will try to attune to the hat to determine what it does.
"15 feet to the Southeast."
OOC to DM: We'll take our long rest here before proceeding. There are enough beds for all anyway.
OOC: We should set up a watch. Just in case. Rastaris can take 1st Watch with whoever.
OOC: Long rest done? Attuned to hat? Does it change Rast's gender?
OOC: Mithrokk will join Rast for 1st watch
OOC: Once we are all rested up, Mithrokk will take one of the pickaxes and start breaking through the bedrock

During his watch, Rastaris checks the map and tries to determine where they would be on the map given their present location.
