The trip to Bilick Glassanvil's farm is a short one -- literally from the jail you can see the massive sign for the "GLASSANVIL RANCH" that encompasses two very large farmhouses. Between the two farmhouses is a wide field almost overgrown with a number of fall vegetables -- peas, pumpkins, onion and garlic. It is a bucolic scene far removed from the world you all have come to know in Varna.
As you approach. you see Bilick standing on his porch, watching you, clad in a simple pair of brown trousers, a plain white shirt and suspenders. He is unkempt and dirty, and his eyes are rimmed red. "You're here to see my brother, ain't ya? I was told you were comin' and ta let ya see...the body." He turns away for a moment, then turns back to you and spits. "Come on then." It is not quite the belligerent greeting you were expecting. Instead, Bilick trudges around to the back of his farmhouse, and throws open the doors of his root cellar. "Dain is down there, Arawai deliver him." He looks each of you over. "Do what you need to do, just don't disturb the body. He needs to look presentable for the funeral. Our mama's going to be there." He starts to walk away and then turns around. "This town is sick, hacks. Something was....broken here during the war and it ain't never been fixed." He stares off towards something over the Commons. He turns and faces you all again. "Shut and latch the cellar door when yer done."
Breyten nodded to Bilick solemnly, he had a respect for him as a fellow farmer, and moreso at the loss of a family member. He looked to the rest of the group, "Someone should stay here, we've been attacked once in this town."
Bilick's farm is lovely, and Peace feels a calm that is incongruous with the situation as he walks up to it. Maybe I can talk the family into moving out here. It'd be cheaper by far. We only have one more of the kids in school. Hmm.. Well not here specifically, perhaps...
"I'm no good with actual investigative work. I'm just here to keep you all out of trouble. I can stand watch while you look over him. Zeenon can stay out here with me if he promises to use nonlethal force if something goes wrong."

The cellar is reasonably well appointed for what amounts to basically an oversized crawlspace. It is clear that Bilick uses this space as a workshop of sorts as there are a number of carpenter's tools hanging from the walls and a wooden work table with remnants of sawdust on it. There are also a number of relics from the Last War hanging on the walls and prominently displayed including the head of a warforged, a number of flags and some medals displayed in frames as well as a large photo.
On top of the work table is the body of Dain Glassanvil. It is clear the body has had a little bit of work done since he was killed. Its clear he's been cleaned up and dressed in a nice suit.
(Breyten -- make a Medicine or Nature check (your choice) if you're going to examine the body. Take advantage since we'll assume Rowan is helping you.)
Breyten took a breath and then began to examine the wounds on Dain's body, his mind flashed back to the conversation they had the night before the drink they had shared, it all made life seem so fragile. "Rowan, what does this look like to you?" he said gaining the assistance of his fellow investigator on what he was seeing
Korvash takes some time studying Bilick's workspace. He pauses as he looks at the relics from the War. He sighs as he reflects on how he had done nothing in the War... nothing, except stealing from those people who were in the greatest need. I wish I could have been in the War, like Bilick was, Korvash thinks. Then my life would be a lot different than it is today.
After a long while of pondering, Korvash moves over closer to Dain's body. He will also study Dain's wounds. (Medicine: 14) After looking at the body, it all becomes too much for him, and he heads back outside to meet Peace and Zeenon. He sits down and begins to write.
Breyten and Rowan, even with Dain's body being in a cleaned up state, you are still able to glean a few important details. The cause of death was clearly a slash mark across the throat that caused Dain Glassanvil to bleed out.
There are a number of slash marks all over Dain's torso and arms, with the majority of slash marks appearing on the dwarf's back. The claw marks are fairly wide set and grouped by threes -- indicating the wounds would have been caused either by a very large paw or a weapon designed to look like creature claws.
Finally, the claw marks also indicate that whatever it was, the creature was bipedal, and from the angle of the marks the creature was either the same size as Dain or slightly higher.
Korvash, in addition to noticing the slash marks, as you look around Bilick's memorabilia, you notice that several figures in the photo are familiar to you. Samuel, Dain Bilick, and even the halfling woman who confronted you in the jail are prominently in the front, holding a banner with the words "HAVENGLEN RAIDERS" emblazoned on it. You don't really know much about the War as you would like given your activities during the war, so the name really doesn't mean anything to you.
Zeenon slowly moves toward the nearest pumpkin vine, taking "baby steps" and watching Peace to see if he intervenes. Once it is within a couple feet of the nearest pumpkin, the warforged finally turns and leans over to view the gourd more closely. "Look, Zeetin," the construct says in a loud whisper. "Big and orange."
Acrobatics check: 13
It stands up again and surveys the patch. Spotting a small, stunted one not too far in, it begins "tip toeing" through the vines and pumpkins after a quick glance at Peace. Six feet into the patch, two pumpkins have been kicked, and one has been hollowed out by the warforged's big, metal foot stepping down through the center. It leans over, retrieves the small one, and practically runs toward Peace. Three steps later, its foot catches on a big vine, and it falls flat on its face. "Oh no. Oh no. Oh no," Zeenon begins repeating as it gets up, various parts of the two pumpkins it landed on clinging to its metal surfaces. It resumes its run, finally escaping the patch.
Breyten examines the marks, "Rowan, we may want to get pictures in case we need to compare them to a weapon or animal we find later as the a suspect" he wasn't able to tell from just these marks whether it was weapon or natural, but the fact that it was done from a height just slightly taller than the dwarf was interesting.
As Peace turns his back, returning his gaze to Zeenon, he watches it try to tiptoe through the pumpkins. He then watches as Zeenon puts his foot through one pumpkin, and then another. "Oh, Zeenon! No! Come back here!" After Zeenon flops to the floor, Peace groans and says, "Zeenon, come here more carefully and stay here. I'll buy you a pumpkin to play with later..."
(Would I know how much pumpkins cost?)

Korvash wonders, What could the Havenglen Raiders possibly mean? He decides to go back down to take another look. On the way, he realizes the meaning of the slash marks. "No, it can't be," he mutters to himself. When he reaches the cellar again, he meets Breyten and Rowan and tells them, "It can't have been Beard. Beard doesn't have claws -- he's a boar type shifter. ... But who could it have been?"
(Peace, pumpkins cost 2 cp each -- You and Zeenon and roll perception checks as well, if you like -- I think you two are the only two above ground.)
Korvash, as you go and check out the memorabilia again, nothing else really stands out. Bilick has the banner in hte photograph displayed vertically on one of the cellar walls and, as you noticed before, he seems to be fairly well decorated as a soldier; the medals are from the Breland military, in which Bilick, Dain, Samuel, and the others in the photo served.

At Korvash's words, Zeenon's posture straightens a little. "Hear that, Zeetin? Zeenon still an old boy. Korvash an old boy, too."

"Zeenon see pumpkins!" the warforge proclaims in response to Peace saying its identification.
