The rest of the party follows suit, topping off their water skins and drinking their fill of the cool, clear water. The halflings begin to talk excitedly amongst themselves about stopping for a second breakfast, but Remacle says, "I don't think it would be safe to stop with all these spider webs about. I think it would be best if we move on until we find a place we can make secure, what like them big folks had upstairs."
He looks to Anakis, Aluzira, and the rest of the group for a decision about where to go next. "Shall we go downstairs then?" he asks.
Anakis nods, "I think so. This place is such a maze. I'm amazed at how big it is down here." She moves to the stairs and then carefully moves down, watching for more traps as she descends and especially at the bottom of the stairs after her last experience (Stealth: 19 and Perception: 16).
Suspended in the webs draped over the walls of the stairwell, you can see the mummified remains of some very large centipedes as you descend, many of them more than a foot in length. However, there are no webs when you come to the bottom of the stairs. The air is still once again, and the smell of decaying organic matter lingers in the passageway. To either side of you, a twenty foot wide hallway extends as far as you can see, while directly ahead, a ten-foot wide hall goes a short distance before making what appears to be a sharp turn to the left into a very wide passageway.
You can see by the dim light of those holding torches behind you that there don't appear to be any traps in the immediate area, and the walls, floor, and ceiling all glisten in the torchlight as beads of moisture cling to every surface.
After filling her water skin, Aluzira follows Anakis down the stairs having remaining silent though shuddering at the sight of the large centipedes remains. Once down the stairs and upon seeing more passageways, Aluzira let’s out a sigh. “This place is indeed very large and maze like.”
Anakis makes faces of disgust as she passes each of the large centipedes down the stairs. At the bottom, she looks left, right, then ahead, before looking to Aluzira and replying, "It goes on forever. How long have we been down here now?" She looks around again, touching the damp, glistening yet web-less walls. "At least there are no more spider webs. I'm so glad we didn't find any of those." She walks over to the entrance of ten-foot wide hall across from the bottom of the stairs and sniffs the air. "It smells bad down here. What if we explore this smaller hall first then come back here? This one might just end in a room. There might be treasure for us, hey Mr. Buttons?
"With any luck, yes," replies Mr. Button, "or at least a place to stop and have a rest. By my reckoning (and by the grumbling stomachs of my companions), it's about two hours since we met you all. I told them we'd have the treasure and be out of this place by second breakfast, which is usually one of our more substantial meals, so when we ran into you we skipped straight to elevenses thinking that would sustain us until such a time as we could prepare a proper meal. It appears now that second breakfast will soon be past due, if you know what I mean."
"Regular meals are quite important to my people, just in terms of keeping up morale," he says, patting his ample belly.

"I don't know how you can eat so much. I'm used to not having a lot of food," Anakis replies. She looks down the ten-foot wide hall a moment, then nods to the others, "Let's go have a look then maybe have some time for you all to have some food." She sneaks forward to the bend in the hall and looks around the corner. Once she's had a look around the corner and satisfied her curiosity as to what is there, Anakis continues around the corner and down the hall (Sneak: 18 and Perception: 4).
Approaching the corner, you can see that to the left is a very wide hall, and looking around the corner (which is a sharp left) you can see that after a short distance it turns to the right. Continuing on past this turn, the hallway (now only ten feet wide) ends at an open door beyond which is a large oval-shaped room. It appears to have once been used for storage. There are some bundles of straw stacked on the floor and some large hogshead casks in the room. Across the room are four doors which are closed, two to the left and two on the opposite wall.

"Psst," Anakis whispers back to the others, "I think I found us a room to have your second breakfast and take a rest." And with that, she slinks into the oval room to check it a little more closely, especially the four doors. She will look over them to see if there are any engravings or markings, and also if they are locked (Investigation: 16).
Aluzira nods in response and follows her into the oval shaped room. “I’ve never seen a room this shape before,” she says quietly, while looking around at all the things in it. Seeing Anakis study the doorways she comes over and tries to Help her.
The halflings and the other party members move into the room, and once everyone is inside, Remacle checks the hallway and shuts the door. He produces an iron spike from his backpack and drives it into the floor with Nicolas’ lucky hammer just in front of the door to fasten it shut. “That should hold off whatever nasties are out there,” he says.
Some of the halflings retrieve bundles of wood and frying pans, and begin making small fires over which they heat up sausages and bacon, and fry up mushrooms, potatoes, eggs, and french toast. They make a thick gravy with the sausages and pour it over biscuits which they also toast over the fire. They also make a frittata with potatoes, vegetables, eggs, and cheese.
“If any of you folks are hungry, you’re welcome to some of ours,” says Remacle. “Some of your group look like you could use a good meal and a rest.”
Tarek eagerly accepts. “I must admit,” he says, “that I don’t quite feel myself after falling in that pit. May the blessings of Pelor shine upon you.”
The doors do not appear to have locks or any distinctive markings about them. They simply look like very old wooden doors which might be stuck.
Anakis shrugs after her investigation of the doors. She smells the air in the room, now filled with delicious aromas. At the offer of food, she comes over to take a small plate of food, but then disappears to the edges of the room to hide away with her plate. Every couple of mouthfuls, she gives some to Custard as well.

An hour passes as everyone gets in a short rest. Nicolas helps Tarek bind the worst of his bruises he suffered in the fall, and the acolyte of Pelor seems to feel much better. 11
"Well," he says, donning his armor, "which of these doors would you like me to open first?"
Anakis scratches her head, "I'm not sure. The doors all seem pretty normal. There aren't any markings on them, but they look like they might be a little stuck."
Aluzira gratefully takes a toasted biscuit and some gravy before sitting near to where the others of her group are. “Thank you for the food,” she says to Mr. Remacle and the other halflings with a grateful smile. “It’s very good!” Upon seeing Tarek putting on his armor she stand and straightens her daggers. “Perhaps the third?” she asks before nervously scratching the back of her head. “There is a saying that good things come in threes, though it might not be relevant to door choosing.” she adds with a slight chuckle.
Anakis shrugs, "I've heard third is a charm, so..." she counts to the third door from left to right and points resolutely at the door. "That one then, please Tarek," she gives him a smile.
Tarek opens the door easily. Through the doorway, you can see a twenty-foot wide tunnel, dripping with moisture, that runs straight ahead as far as you can see.

"Well, no spider webs," Anakis says matter-of-factly with a smile. She then slinks away down the hall without another word, moving carefully as she does (Sneak: 21 and Perception: 19).
The rest of the group follows you and, assuming Aluzira does as well, travels up along the tunnel for some time. Torrent and Tarek travel alongside you, Anakis, keeping watch for traps and hidden threats. Nicolas, towards the middle of the group with the halflings, scans the walls for any telltale signs of a secret door. While Ash brings up the rear, making sure no monsters sneak up from behind.
The tunnel is wet, and snails and other small dark bugs are abundant all along its length. Eventually, you come to what looks like a dead end.

Anakis stops as she reaches the dead end, hands on hips. "That's strange. Why would they make a tunnel that leads nowhere? Maybe there's something hidden nearby? Aluzira, can you help?" (Assuming help from Aluzira for my rolls here) Anakis starts scanning the walls with Aluzira's help, trying to find cracks, levers, buttons, or anything that might indicate a secret pathway (Investigation: 12).
