Garet led the way downstairs as they wound down into the earth, occasionally a bone or dark smear would mar the steps as thy descended.
About 100m down the stairs ended in a high vaulted rectangular chamber lined with huge shelves of steel-bound volumes marked with runic script.
A series of desks lined the room but those in the central rows leading towards sundered double doors on the far side of the room had been crushed and splintered as if by a great weight...
Garet curious about the metal tomes and apprehensive about what could have crushed the double doors made his way to Banzo and the books on the table.
Hoping that they may be in dwarvish so he could put to use the hours he had spend with Short John the Dwarven cook on-board the pirate ship Revenge learning to decipher the runic script to a practical use.
Brocc moves to the shelves and begins to look over what is on them. Is he able to read the runic script? Do these look like books or something else?
The script appears to be a slightly archaic form of dwarvish and Brocc is able to make it out fairly easily. Indeed as Banzo opens one it seems to be a tome comprised of metal pages with embossed runes on each page. Reading the spines of the tomes Brocc makes out titles such as " Geological survey of levels 17-38, Fauna and Flora of the Amethyst Cradle, Metallurical Studies in Copper, Zinc and associated alloys."
Banzo will take one of the metal bound books off a shelf and put it on one of the remaining desks off to the side and begin trying to peruse it to see if he can at least determine what they are.
Investigation: 19
"Looks like they were made to last." Banzo will comment about, and gesture toward the metal-bound tome he has on the table.
Its dwarven.....the books show no sign of rust or tarnish whatsoever and the one he has opened contains anatomical diagrams of various insects, annelids and other small creatures.

Looking over Banzos shoulder he determines that this particular book is called " Fauna and Flora of Ragnars Folly."
It seems to be an exhaustive survey and field-guide detailing many different forms of life found in a cavern called Ragnars Folly.
"These three books are indeed magical." Brocc comments as he pulls the three books from their places. He does take time to identify them, explaining what they do to the others. He keeps the dwarven book of hymns for himself, explaining that it will aid him in combat and help the group as a whole. The book of sending and book of diplomancy he would give to whomever wants them.
Garet listens to Broccs explanations of what the magical books can do and although he feels that he to would love a combat boon especially with something large and scary potentially around the next corner. He already speaks dwarvish and having another dwarvish speaker in the group would be no bad thing, he accepts Broccs claim on the book.
As for the other books Garet has no interest in them and would happily support Zeltheris claim to the diplomacy book.
Listening to Banzo, Garet cleared his throat and spoke "I'm not too fond of tactical retreats and feel that there may be more to find, in this place." Garet hoped that the more to find would be more treasure than trouble but would rather take trouble than not finding out.
Once there is nothing more to find here, Brocc would move to the broken down doors and wait for the others to be ready to move on. He would be reading through the book of hymns as he waits.
"Well, I guess that means we're fighting whatever did this?"
Banzo begins pacing up and down the aisles scanning the spines of the metal books, and any other books for any keywords that imply 'spell' or 'magic' in their titles.
Investigation: 26
"If anyone finds a spellbook do let me know."
Banzo completes a thorough scan of the book shelves and is about to leave with a sigh when he spots a piece of parchment folded up and jammed between the edges of a desk.

More bones and dark smears littered the room...
Ooc : are dark smears punctual in several points like in the wall where torches might have been or are they huge smears in certain places?
In other words: I wanna know if a dragon spit fire on these walls
( Same as upstairs, its very old blood.
Not a single torch sconce anywhere in the place.)

Zeltheris stays near the doors and glances around and where whatever crushed the tables may have gone.

Looking through the doors Zeltheris sees faintly in the dark another large square chamber lined with metal doors.
Brocc steps back and casts detect magic as a ritual, wishing to get a look at what might be magical in this chamber.
Three of the Tomes glow faintly to Broccs eyes.

Zeltheris looks greedily at the diplomacy book, "I'd be interested in that one."
Herman does not trust magic in general, nevertheless reading books about magic.
While Brocc identifies the books he looks around the room to notice what have broken such strong tables

The double doors and desks seem to have been crushed under a great weight though there is also evidence of heavy focused impacts.....

Zeltheris tucks the book away for now and moves to follow Brocc.
Meanwhile, Shalana performs maintenance on itself as it follows behind.
