Moira: You learn plenty of random facts about kobolds, one of which is that they are often found to be nocturnal due to their sensitivity to sunlight. It's currently early morning and the weather is calm and the sun is beginning to come out.
Anyone who sent familiars: Flying into the cave the familiar/familiars fly through various passages of which there are several side rooms. There are about seven openings that appear to be rooms of a sort and none appear to be lit at all currently. They see four figures in one room, and another four in a second room with two more in another, that appear to be huddled up together and in one larger room they see the larger form of the dragon just standing in the center of the room barely moving. Other than that, there are two kobold guards standing just inside the cave entrance avoiding the sunlight.
"Ok, there appear to be a dozen kobolds and the dragon." Kellin reports back in once his familiar has completed its fly-through of the caves. He considers this a moment. "I think we have two options. We either set up some sort of ambush here,as outlined already, or we attack the cave directly." He shrugs. "Either way we have to fight both the kobolds and dragon at the same time, so I don't know that it matters too much which way we go. The attack on the cave directly would have the least chance of the battle spilling over to the town though, so that may be our best option if we want to limit damage to the town further."
"Doubt if you are going to keep a dragon in there for long." Kellin says with a shake of his head. "There doesn't seem to many options, unless we wish to try to reason with the dragon. We either kill it, and the kobolds, or we give up." He glances to the group. "I don't like the idea of facing down a dragon, especially a red, but I don't see that we have much for choice."
Torvin replies to Kellin : " I'm afraid you are right. I do not look forward to facing it in it's lair though." "Do we need to rest up and maybe test the kobolds later this afternoon while it's still daylight?"
(OOC: Technically there are two entrances, the one the dragons comes out of, and the one on the side that the kobolds use.)
Hodil comes to the Inn to see how everyone is doing and makes sure everyone is ok. "I've searched through my mothers belongings she left me and found a few items that might help along the way. Please take them with my blessing. "
He takes out a small leather pack clearly designed to hold potions and inside you can see 6 Potion of Healing inside.
Once he hands them over, he urges you to get some rest before attempting any more confrontations with the Dragon or its minions.
"Let us get some rest." Kellin agrees. He thanks the mayor for the potions and takes one of them for himself. Then he goes to find a place to rest up for the confrontation to come.
(If we take a long rest now, we will wake up around early to mid-afternoon, right?)
I go to my room in the inn, lock the door, put a chair under the handle and close the windows. I tell Ify to screech loudly if someone tries to break in and go to sleep.
(OOC: Mid Afternoon would be about right, you all get your long rest in.)
You all take your rest and wake up later in the day. Meeting back at the feast hall, you find Hodil waiting for you. "I'm glad you have rested, though I worry about a potential backlash from the mountain after last night. What are your plans to end this threat to our town?"
“Should we get something, or build something to block the cave behind us? That way, maybe none of the kobolds could run away.” Alto suggests as a possibility.
"I can do that. Either with earth or with a wooden barricade on top of an earthen wall. The latter would take longer though. How wide and how high are the entrances?"
(How long would it take to block the entrance using mold earth? How long would it take me to construct a crude barricade out of the wood available?)
"Building a wall or blocking the entrance to the cave is a good idea, but, I'm not keen on the idea of walling ourselves in the cave with the dragon and the kobolds. There are several options in blocking off the cave entrance that could work in our favor: (1) We could create a wall high enough that the kobolds would be trapped inside the cave, but, allowing a space for the dragon to get out. We could then attack the dragon while it is trying to get out of the opening. After the dragon is dead, we could then go after the kobolds. (2) We block the mouth of the cave off completely, but, leave a small, kobold size opening at one edge of the cave, and then lure the kobolds out and kill them as they exit the cave. Once the kobolds are dead, we go after the dragon. (3) we close most of the cave mouth off, but, leave a small enough opening to start a fire, and use smoke to asphyxiate the kobolds. I don't know how the dragon would be affected by that, but, it would at least leave us fewer enemies to attack."
Turning to Moira, Telcar asks "How big of a wall can you create, and how fast can you build it?"
ooc The Mold Earth cantrip only effects a 5 ft x 5 ft x 5 ft cube. Even if the wall was only 1 ft thick, Moira could only build a wall 11 ft x 11 ft. I don't know if that would be enough to block off the mouth of the cave. Another possibility is to use the mold earth to create a above the cave mouth, blocking it in that way.
"I can create a 5 feet thick, 5 times 10 feet big wall of loose earth in 5 minutes. I think if it is thinner, it won't hold very well. Instead of the wall I could change the terrain, which would slow everyone down who tries to traverse it. Those changes last for one hour."
"Given time we could maybe trap the kobold entrance and close it up. Then if we attack from the dragon entrance still by day, then we won't have enemies in our backs."
"I don't think we have time for much of anything to block the main cave mouth." Kellin would say with a shake of his head. "The smaller, kobold entrance, we could probably block up fairly quickly though." He shrugs. "Seems like we are making convoluted plans again though. The main threat is the dragon. Those kobolds would not be a threat for the town if we take out the dragon, so I am not sure why we care if some of the kobolds run away. The less to fight the better I say."

(Alto is 22) “If there is only one entrance, couldn’t we just collapse it so they can’t get out?”
"Maybe we should investigate, how many entrances there are. I agree with both of you, Kellin and Alto."
Trapping them in the mountain is a good idea but how would we accomplish that? Anyone have any ideas?

Also, if no one else did, then I looted the kobolds during my conversation with Torvin back after the fight.

"That would save us time as well. So do we go in through the dragon entrance and fight our way through?"
I send Ify to scout said entrance and come back.
