Lander gets up and whispers to Riona. "I'm gonna leave you alone to question her. I'll just be taking a little walk to decompress. If you need anything though, give me a holler." Lander walks over the half-elf. "Sorry if I was a little rude to you before..... I was just a bit in shock. Fedex is right, we do appreciate your help. I'm Lander." He gives a small, almost ashamed smile as he walks over to the abandoned house to look around a little.
Lander would like to use an investigation check to see if there may be anything of use or something possibly hidden in this run down house, Maybe the bandits left something or stored something of value here. Or maybe a previous owner had something hidden. He moves some furniture aside and taps on walls and floorboards.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Fedex: There are dirty, but serviceable boots for everyone but Lander. None of them appear to be of any better quality than those you currently own.
Lander:
As you search the farmhouse you notice the floor beneath a mouldering armchair appears to contain a trap door concealing a small compartment. Inside you find a cache of assorted valuables, likely stolen from unfortunate passersby. The compartment contains 38gp, 21sp, and 311cp. You also find 2 potion of healing, various pieces of jewelry including a pearl necklace, a gold-plated pocket-watch, and a silver ring with a large yellow gemstone.
Aside from the loot, there is also a folded piece of paper in the compartment. It details instructions for the Bandits to waylay a group travelers and retrieve a packet of documents in their possession. The paper also mentions brief descriptions of you, Fedex, Riona, and Keragri. There is no signature.
Riona smooths down her dress and clothing, casting prestidigitation methodically cleaning her cloths for a few minutes while the dwarven woman burns herself out. Once she runs out of energy, Riona delicately sits down beside her pulling out her crystal and finding direct eye contact with the bound woman.
"I'm just looking for a few answers my dear I'm not looking to hurt you anymore. Won't you do that for me my friend?"
As she speaks in a calm methodical voice she begins pouring magic into her words, forcing a connection between her and this bloodthirsty stranger. The magic finally snaps tight and hits the dwarven woman, completing the casting of Charm Person.

Casting:Spell save DC 13
Loot: I'm not too bothered by however you guys want to split loot but they way I tend to do it is splitting money 5 ways (one for each character and then a party fund), and then if we find any items that people will find useful they just get them and we sell all the stuff no one wants. I like this way because to me if a party member is better because of an item it benefits all of us.
Lander walks out of the abandoned house carrying a cloth that appears to be wrapped around a bunch of items. "I found some stuff for us in a secret compartment. Looks like coin, some random jewelry, and a couple potions of healing. I can either carry it for now and we can settle up later, or we can split this up now if that works. I do think Riona and I should each carry a healing potion though just in case one of us goes down, we have multiple options for any of us to be healed. Oh, Fedex, c'mere when you get a second." Lander is going to walk over to a portion of the fence that appears sturdy. He sits back leaning against the fence and places the cloth on the ground next to him. He opens his backpack and takes out his spellbook. He is hoping he will have time for a short rest where he can relax and study a bit. He waits for Riona to finish the interrogation.
When Fedex walks over he will quietly show him the letter that he found with their descriptions on it and the orders to take any documents they may have. "Have a look at this. Didn't wanna say anything while Riona is talking to the dwarf and I wanted you to hear first before our new friend there." He nods in the direction of Durothil.
(OOC: To track all our extra loot that we intend to split should I just keep track on a sheet of paper at the house here or is there a way to track on my character sheet without mixing up this extra stuff and my personal possessions?)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Riona: The Dwarven Woman shuts her eyes and shouts "No... NO! Keep your fingers outta my head!" in an attempt to drown out the magic laced words.
WIS Save:3
She stops shouting and squirming as you finish your sentence. She looks to you with unfocused eyes and you see a flicker of purple light in them before they focus on you. "Yes... That's fine. I... I'm sorry we tried to kill you. I really am..."
OOC for All: I'll let you all decide how you want to track loot; it sounds like we've had some pretty solid suggestions thus far. I don't mind doing it if that's what you all would prefer. Maybe one person could volunteer to track the "party loot" and post an update at relevant points? Just the stuff that isn't already claimed by a player. I think Riona's idea for splitting the funds five ways has merit as well. An update post might look something like:
Party Loot:
Weapons/Armor: 19 Crossbow Bolts, Heavy Crossbow, Scimitar, Mace, Boots.
Coin: 33gp, 36sp, 431cp.
Potions: 2 Potions of Healing
Objects of value: Pearl necklace, Gold-plated pocket-watch, Silver ring with yellow gemstone, Gold earring, 3 Gold-capped teeth.
I think that's everything you guys have attained so far, correct me if I'm wrong. I did include the coin Fedex got from the Noble since he said he was tracking it separate from his own funds.
"My dear I know were sorry and it's okay, I just need you to tell me a few things." Riona's words are soft as she rests a hand on the woman's arm while she speaks.
"Will you tell me why you attacked us, I'm just trying to understand. You can help me understand right? And are there more of your people waiting for me? I need you to tell me, you don't want me to be in danger do?"
Fedex silently peruses the paper from Lander and hands it back to him.
”I’d like to talk with Durothil before he leaves.”
Fedex non threatenly approaches Durothil and slows and stops 15’ from him and his wolf.
”I want to thank you again. You’ve come along at a most opportune time. Our path takes us on the road through the dark woods. If you came from that direction, perhaps you can give us some insight as to what we might expect? We are more weary than we should be for this time of day. Can we make it through before nightfall, or is there a suitable campsite within the woods? I’m afraid if we get waylaid again before we rest, our fortunes will be far different.”
Riona: The Dwarven Woman looks down at her hands and feet, bound by rope. She looks back to you with a confused expression. She thinks about what you said and says "We've been robbing people for a few months now. Not just here, but along the Trade Way. I thought we'd be leaving soon, we normally don't stay in one place very long. We've had plenty of..." She stops and looks to you, sheepishly "opportunities for work... With the refugees in the area... But Grahl, that's the half-orc..." She looks away, with that same confused look, "Or... he was the half-orc. He's dead now... Anyway, he always said we had to keep moving. He'd say 'A tick gets picked because it feeds in the same spot, growing fat and sluggish.' Which is why I thought it a little strange that he wanted to stick around here so long... Business was good, but the longer we stayed, the more I thought about getting picked. We all started to get a little antsy and Melrick confronted him a few nights ago. Grahl normally plays his cards close to his chest and tells us what he thinks we need to know, but he finally told us he got word something big was headed our way. All we had to do was intercept a packet and deliver it to Baldur's Gate. Grahl said the payout was enough to set us up for years." She draws her knees closer to her chest, still bound by rope, staring blankly at the ground a few feet away. She's quiet for a few seconds, then says "No, it's just the four of us. Or, was... Ugh!" She closes her eyes and shakes her head, "What's going on? What did you do to me?" she shouts, fear in her eyes. Then you see the purple light flicker in her eyes again and she settles down.
Fedex: The man known as Durothil quickly looks to you as you begin talking, but refocuses his attention on Riona and the Dwarven Woman. "No need to thank me. In fact, I'm not exactly sure where this falls on the morality spectrum." He holds his hands out, palms up, raising and lowering them like a scale, "Helping you perform field surgery on someone, good." His left hand raises while the right hand lowers, "That person being someone you were trying to kill not five minutes prior, mmm... grey area..." The left hand lowers, "Saving their life so you can interrogate them and who knows what else after..." He looks back to you and raises and lowers both his hands before crossing his arms again and turning to watch Riona and the woman. "As for where I've been... I'm afraid I have to beg your pardon, but I'm not comfortable sharing that with you all." He watches the two women talk for a bit before saying "What are you going to do with her... after?"
“At this moment, I cannot say what will be done with her. For my part, I would offer her services to you, if you’d have her. Or perhaps offer you some coin to deliver her to justice back in Hill’s Edge. But barring that, I will suggest to our troupe that we take her with us the other direction, through the woods.” Fedex hesitates to let the calculation percolate for just a moment or two before continuing. “The four of us are refugees who have only just met each other, but we share a goal of seeking better lives, and that put us together on this road. None of us have travelled it before so she ...” motioning towards Riona “ ... is trying to get some reconnaissance of what may lie ahead. Her methods may be forceful, but as you know, as a man of action, force must be met with force. And we didn’t start this. You suggested we not take our rest here, and I agree, and that is the reason I ask you what lies ahead in the woods and how long it will take to pass. Protecting ourselves is complicated enough without having to safeguard a known hostile that accompanies us. So, I will restate my inquiry to you, can we make it through the woods with what time is left today? Do you know of a place for us to rest before, during or after entering the woods? And I am sorry for my long-windedness, but just one more question for the moment; can I offer you anything for the berry?” A smile expands on Fedex’s face.
"Shhhhhhshshh it's okay I'm not going to hurt you, I've just given you a little something to make the ... pain... more tolerable. Don't mind the ropes dear, i'll take them off once you prove you wont hurt us, remember you tried to push me down a well, I think you can agree this is only fair. Do you know how hired Grahl, who would offer him enough coin to put himself and his people at risk? Did he not give you a contingency, a name to find should he not make it with you to Baldur's Gate?"
As Riona does her best to sooth and coax information out of the woman she takes out her water skin and offers the dwarf a few drinks.
Fedex: The man watches you silently as you talk. You feel his focus as almost a physical thing, scanning your face, eyes, your stance, your hand movements.
Insight Check for Durothil:22 He's attempting to discern whether you're actually refugees, or something more. I'll roll deception for you in the interest of keeping pace.
Deception Check for Fedex:15
Once you finish talking, he doesn't respond right away. He looks you in the eye with direct and full focus and asks "What about the... other option?" He pauses a moment, letting the full weight of his words come to bear. "You ask me to help you on your way and I understand that, but I want to know... What kind of person am I helping?" He looks to you with your newly claimed Crossbow, and Boots, then to Riona questioning the restrained woman. "You know as well as I, she's a liability. For me, more so than you. I'll get to that in a moment, but for now... You have a decision to make. Will you let her walk away? Knowing what she knows now? Or...? And his eyes go again to the weaponry adorning your body.
Riona: The woman sips the water you offered her and thanks you for it. She tries to blow a leaf out of her hair, but it holds fast. "No, nothing. Grahl was very secretive about the whole thing. I think he was afraid Melrick or Rurik might try to off us and take the money for themselves, so he made sure to keep the details under his hat." She looks around, watches Fedex and Durothil for a bit before turning back to you. "Gods, that wolf is scary innit?" She shivers and says "Well, what now...? What happens... to me?"
“Letting her go to do this to more innocents? I don’t think so.” Fedex is displaying a little frustration because His questions are being answered with questions. “Sir, if you won’t assist us further, can I at least pay you for the berry?”
Fedex is suspecting that Durothil is referring to us killing her, but deep down, is not wanting that option to be on the table.
OOC: I typed that as you were editing. Fedex is trying to be neutral good. If I need to make some rolls let me know, but I am trying to be mostly honest.
Fedex: Durothil nods and says "Thank you for indulging my curiosity. It's born of caution, I assure you. I believe I can help you, sir. I believe we can help each other in fact. You give me what you came to give me, what they wanted," He nods toward the Dwarven Woman "...and I believe that will solve your 'delving into the deep, dark woods' issue." He looks to you, awaiting your reaction before saying, "As for the berry, consider it a gift. On the house."
OOC for Fedex: I saw that, ha ha. I was trying to hurry and finish editing the post once I knew what the rolls were, but I had trouble figuring out what and how I wanted Durothil to say. Feel free to edit your post to better reflect the changes I made if you want. I think it works fine how it is.
Fedex stands stunned, having expended a great portion of his brain power formulating the previous sentences. He realizes why he shouldn't be the spokesman for the party. His brow furrows as he tries to take in the new information and hopes others were within earshot because he is not sure he could relay properly what he just heard. More than anything right now, he wants to be rescued from this conversation and as such, stands silently, glancing in turns to Lander and Riona and Keragri.
Fedex: Durothil raises an eyebrow as he awaits your response "Pardon me, I assumed you were the leader of this group. If you need to gather the others, by all means..."
Lander gets up and whispers to Riona. "I'm gonna leave you alone to question her. I'll just be taking a little walk to decompress. If you need anything though, give me a holler."
