10 gp? For a few straps? Now, I know you drive a hard bargain here, but we're helping the town you see -- we're helping Ambermoor herself, and her customers, which are, by the way, your customers too! These bandits you have, causing trouble, taking gold..
Now I can't afford such a steep price, and you and I both know that you're charging high, and I could counter low.. but we'd be here all day.
Artin leans in with a crafty look on his face, clearly enjoying the negotiation, but doing so in a way that you can't help but laugh with him.
This would really be a bill for Mr. Shieldcaster, wouldn't it? I'm sure he'd be willing to pay... full price?
Artin looks up at the man hopefully
(Persuasion roll 13)
"Look, I don't make a whole lot of money here, but if you insist I can make a discount of four gold pieces"

"If I keep trying, I'll be able to win," the hero thought.
But the harder the hero fought, the further the world seemed to tumble away.
Drowning in doubt, the hero could not even save themselves.
Hero, if you still believe in a brighter future, hold in your heart a thorn that can pierce all doubt."
"Well, let's see. The rob people, beat up and hurt people for the fun of it, vandalize, destroy property," He pauses for a moment, "They... they killed my wife. Ah, she was beautiful, they tried to take her, most of them don't know thier own strength, when she fought back, they hit her on the back of the head to knock her out, but instead they broke her neck. They've been a menace nobody here has stood up to for too long. I'm glad you all came. Anyway, your armor will be done within the hour."

(OOC rules question: Shouldn't I have been adding my proficiency bonus to my die rolls? For example, my char sheet says persuasion +5, but thats +2 from CHA and +3 from having the skill. Don't I also add my +3 proficiency bonus on top of that for a total of +8)
("Having the skill" is proficiency. The rare case where you double that is when you have the Expertise feature for the skill.) (I'll have an IC post done soon)
(OOC Sorry for the newb question here, totally new to 5e, but I'm completely confused by the skill modifier. PHB says to add your generic proficiency bonus to all skill checks. That's +3 for me. Let's take a concrete example. My character sheet shows my untrained skill of Acrobatics (DEX) as +2. That's +2 because my DEX is 14 and has a +2 modifier, right? So then I'd add +3 to that for my generic proficiency and get a total of +5 modifier? Is that right?)
(OOC: I'm assuming all of you are going to be going to confront the bandits. If all of you are free later tonight we can do that while everyone is online. I will be gone from about noon until 5:30 or 6:00 Mountain time zone. If you won't be able to make it, please let me know.)

You only add your proficiency bonus to the skills you are trained in, in your case it would be Performance, persuasion, stealth, and survival.

By Silvanus! That is an unspeakable tragedy.
Artin bends his head in sorrow. This sounds like more than just bullies pushing their weight around and being rude. This is murder.
I promise you, I will put a stop to this. This cannot continue.
Invaih arrive at The Amber Frog shortly after Iradari walked in. Entering silently, less trying to be stealthy and more his natural demeanor, he followed the elf and leaned on a nearby wall during his conversation with Ellie.
So these rude gentlemen... or rather not gentle men from yesterday have a habit of vandalism... I should go have a chat with them. Waiting for Iradari to finish talking to Boo, he approached him and offered: "The drow would be delighted to come along! I have a few ideas to scare the wits out of them, and I can work spreading rumors around town that a ghost has manifested, dealing justice to evildoers. Not as refined a way to deal with them as I would like, but better than beheading them, if it can be helped." Invaih put two fingers under his chin, thinking, then added, "Though I would like to converse with the men for information if the opportunity arises. I need to confirm something."
By then, Artin headed out to get his armor fixed. Invaih would stay in the tavern to finish conversing, then would leave to spread rumors, and purchase a component pouch for his spell materials. "As this was requested to you, I will defer to your judgement as to how to proceed," Invaih told Iradari, "and I will meet back up with you before you depart."

Ok makes sense. But I think you forgot Insight too for that list.

(OOC I'm here all day, so I can move ahead in adventure now. Generally I have my phone with me so I can check or post at least every few hours.) Another rules question. Artin is proficient in Bagpipes AND performance. Since he's already proficient in performance, does that mean that Bagpipes was a "wasted" proficiency selection? In other words, does it do nothing at all since he's already proficient in the performance skill?)
Artin heads back to the group. His armor is clean, polished, and surprising well fitting. You can almost see how his boast of physical prowess might have had something to it, years ago.
I'm back! These bandits are more than the bullies I thought they were. Let's put a stop to this now.
(OOC: great, now just waiting on Rootsdub. Just like other artistans tools, instruments let you double your proficiency bonus when using them to make Performance checks, if you aren't proficient in preformance and are proficient in an instrument, you would add your proficiency bonus.)

(OOC: Being proficient in performance lets you add proficiency modifier to performances that don't require special skill or training, like acting in plays, or impersonating someone else [although impersonation can use the deception proficiency at the DM's discretion]. Instruments require their own proficiencies. Proficiency in bagpipes lets you add your modifier to all variations of bagpipes. In my case, my viol proficiency lets me play viol, violin, and other same-family instruments. At least that is how I interpreted it, but the PHB makes a case for the confusion. -See Chapter 7, Using ability scores, Charisma subsections)
(OOC - I like the DM's ruling more than my interpretation.)
