Wash responds "thank you. Do you think that is all of the Xhorhasians? ... Xhorhousians? ... You know what I mean, do you think we have cleared this hideout out? If so, I think we should take what we can carry of value and then head back to town. Alton, I know you wanted to check out the inventor's bedroom, did you want to look there on the way out?"
Wash then approaches the tiny dragon slowly and with his hands held out in a calming gesture and tries to unlock the chains binding it.
Alton, you find an iron chest under the bed. There's a large keyhole in the front.
Wash, as you approach with the key, the creature gets even more excited, though no images or sensations come into your mind. As the chains unlock, the little creature gives a little squeal of joy and takes off into flight, doing somersaults and dives in the air around you before finally coming hesitantly towards you. It's flapping its wings to stay up in the air, and hovering in front of you. An image of the creature perched on your shoulder comes into your mind.
[Also, wash will put a sock on from the change of clothes and put on the fancy robe, then put the rest of the change of clothes and the rations in his bag, to be shared later.]
Alton, the key turns with a satisfying 'click', and the lid of the chest opens. Inside you find 5 platinum, 113 gold, 15 silver, and 10 copper pieces, as well as a well-made dark steel shortsword of a design you have never seen before.
Wash, you don't get any response from the creature; it continues to hover and look at you hopefully.
Alton pulls out the shortsword and holds it out towards Balassar, "I found this shortsword. I think you'd get better use out of it than either myself or Wash will. There is also a good amount of coins too." He sets out to divide the coins in the chest up giving 2 platinum, 37 gold, 5 silver, and 3 copper to Balassar and Wash each; and giving himself the rest (1 platinum, 39 gold, 5 silver, and 4 copper).
Wash asks the creature "Can you talk? I'd thought you were asking if you could perch on my shoulder and I was trying to say emphatically "yes"... as long as you aren't evil. You aren't evil right? You don't look evil. I am usually a fairly good judge of character. Not always though."
After babbling at the creature (and any response) if Wash realises/notices that Alton is trying to give him and Balassar more of a cut of the money than Alton is keeping for himself, he will offer to take the smaller share rather than Alton. He is a sickening little goody two-shoes after all (though also somewhat faint-hearted when in battle - though that is more because his training as a field medic was to keep others up and in the battle).
If a roll is needed/allowed to notice Alton's altruism: 13 add +4 if perception, +2 if investigation. The offer will be genuine and Wash will explain "my needs are simple" but if Alton insists, Wash will cave (so as to not get stuck in a "nice"-off) and will thank Alton for his generosity.
Wash, the little dragon creature lands happily on your shoulder. However, as soon as you suggest it might be evil, it gives you a hard stare with its very adorable little eyes, turns its back to you (though still on your shoulder), and sits down with the general air of being in a huff.
Balassar just smiles as he hands over the weapon and money "This jobs already paying off. Now we have this one we will definitely be enjoying the finer things tonight boys."
Alton would that Wash take his share stating that the story he is getting out of this adventure is making up for a lesser share of any found money. Closing the chest and standing back up he finally takes notice of the small creature on Wash's shoulder, "Oh? What do you have there Wash?" He fishes around in his backpack to pull out an aged sausage from his trail rations and tear off a small piece and offers it to the creature. "It looks friendly."
(OOC: I think the roll you'd want for detecting altruism might be insight, but the DM can correct me if this is wrong.)

Wash apologises"Ummm.... I'm sorry, I mean of course you aren't evil. That is preposterous. But you do understand me, which is good. I'm Dr Sal Washburne by the way. My friends call me Wash..."
Wash responds to Alton "OK then friend, I owe you and wont forget your generosity. This is a..." he looks at the creature, realising he has no idea and asks it "Do you mind if I ask what you are?"
Wash, you get a flash of emotion this time, happiness and relief and hope all jumbled together. The creature bumps its head against your neck in what seems to be a friendly gesture, but makes no other response. You can make a Nature or arcana check to identify the creature if you wish.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Wash's nature check: 13.
[Wash might think it is a frog. Also, it is late where I am, so Wash will follow the others out as discussed on previous pages if someone posts about going back to town.]
Wash, you think it must be some kind of magical creature; it looks like a little dragon, but it's not something you've ever studied. Perhaps you could learn more by doing some research in Hupperdook.
As it stands, there are still some unexplored areas within these caves, which you can choose to investigate. There are a few places you have been but not thoroughly searched yet. You have a drow prisoner. The path to Hupperdook leads out past the waterfall and down the mountain again.

Alton pulls the chest out from under the bed, "Anyone find a key that might fit this chest?"

Wash thinks the same image really hard, hoping the little creature can sense it.
Wash distractedly passes Alton the two keys he found.
Alton will try the keys in the lock of the chest to see if one of them opens it up.

Balassar just remains trained on the drow "Find anything good in there? This one still hasn't moved."
Campaigns:
Wildemount: The Felderwin Irregulars (2020) - Balassar Silverstone - Dragonborn Fighter (Rune Knight) Lv. 5 | Rise of TIamat - Aiwin Aralana - Wood Elf Fighter/Ranger (Arcane Archer/Gloom Stalker) Lv. 9
The drow does indeed seem to remain completely limp and docile.

(OOC: I don't think it really needs a roll. If you think Wash would count the money or pay attention, then he would easily spot the discrepancy.)
