Leon swears as his handaxe sinks to the bottom of the lake, not even getting close to hitting the dragon. He brings magic to bear, prepared to unleash it as soon as the dragon appears once more.
Dragon's head pocked from the water again, a bit closer this time and Alyssa unleashed ring magic on it (whether it's done anything she sould not say but the show was at least beautiful). Irritated, the dragon dived back, but not before several force darts stung unprotected head and two arrows burred deep in the black scales. (Ramious's javelin missed by a hair but still missed)
Bernard was becoming a little nervous. He was sure he had made at least three solid hits but the dragon still moved about. Any other creature would have surely died but not this dragon. As long as he was hitting, he wasn't going to change tactics.
Readied action: should the dragon break surface he will fire two sharpshooter shots at it.

Ramious curses, watching another javelin vanish into the water. "I didn't know dragons were such sissy's that they cower in the water so much!" he shouts angrily.
He pulls out another javelin and prepares to throw it, trying to stay over the dragon's last position, but never straying more than 30 feet from Leon.

Cold dark water became still again - the giant lizard in it moved smooth like a fish. But even a fish can leave some ripples - Leon's attentive gaze penetrated the black water and he spotted even darker shadow mowing around the island. He sent the force bolts toward it - each struck, he could be sure of it - and the shadow disappear in the darkness below.
Next several seconds were so quiet, you would think you hear your own breath and the heart bits were louder than the waterfall behind. There was no sign of the dragon. But suddenly, a loud thunderous whisper from some farthest corner only Ramious could barely see, filled the cave: "I will remember you. Next time we meet will be the one you are least expecting me".
Then the heavy silence fell again. It seemed the cave and the treasure, peppered with dead decomposing corpses, was abandoned.
"Well, we just drove off a dragon..." Leon says, his words loud in the silence of the chamber. "That is no small thing..." He glances to the others and gives them a broad smile. Then he starts to ritual cast detect magic wanting to see if any of the treasure is magical.
Ramious growls, tucks his wings, plummeting from near the ceiling, to get a quick burst of speed and then unfurls them before he splashes into the water to fly as fast as he can across the surface of the water and across the cave where the sound came from. "Hey boys and girls, I thought it was a dragon, but it was just an overgrown chicken...braaaaahck brack brroooock brock."
Alyssa could feel her heart beating in her ears. The dragon had come so close to her, it was even beautiful in the moments before she spewed rainbow colours in it’s face. The overwhelming intensity of the battle swept her up into such a fight or flight state, she didn’t stop to consider actually conversing with the dragon. Upon hearing its words echo through the cave, she couldn’t help but wonder if there could have been a ‘better’ way. It was an intelligent being. But the dwarfs tried Alyssa... She had to remind herself.
The elf couldn’t bring herself to return Leon’s enthusiasm. She’d remain on guard while Ramious would complete a display of taunting dominance. It simply couldn’t of been this ‘easy’? Alyssa wouldn’t move. She’d send Hue to circle the outer edge of the cave before circling in to watch over Leon investigating the dragons hoard, lending its own eyes to the search if it were safe. The wizard would remain on her guard, readying herself to cast magic at any threat that may (re)appear.
After a fair amount of time. If nothing happens, Bernard will move himself into the water and swim across to the treasure pile. Upon arrival he says, "I suggest caution. Beware of anything tricky the dragon may have left and lets have someone on guard incase it tries to ambush us."
It was scary - may be - but ended up so fast one would wonder what was the problem for dwarves upstairs (or anyone else for that matter) to kill or drive off that dragon? The reptile still did not show it's head again, the cave was still dark and quiet.
Leon finished his ritual, finding out that indeed - among that piles of coins (thousands of silver and gold) there were a few magic items: a wand, three potions (two of them obviously healing), a shield and weapons, bearing Durgeddin’s smith-mark - a greataxe, a longsword, plus clearly not-magical but still marked and very well made handaxe and a warhammer.
Ramious flies back to the island after a bit and lands with a bit of a stumbling run. You wouldn't call him graceful. His wings fold up, in a position that seems much more natural to the Tiefling, and he looks around. "Well...my first battle with a dragon was...surprising. Never thought it'd go down that way. Nice shots bugs, your shots were super accurate when I couldn't hit the broadside of a barn. And Alyssa, some light show. You guys are awesome. Leon, I think you gotta teach me that magical bolt spell."
He looks around at the ground and whistles. "Wowzers. This is...incredible. Look at all this. I didn't think it would ever feel like a 'job' picking up money off the ground."
He stands there admiring the view for a few moments, then sighs heavily, "Well, best get to it before the over sized lizard comes back."
He begins picking up coins and putting them all into a big sack. He doesn't bother counting, they can do that later. "Once we get all this stuff, we should head back up. What are we going to tell the duarger guys? That we took care of it, or ... more likely, that we pissed it off and it ran away?"

Bugs gives a solid nod, "my hand was guided a bit by Alyssa's magic, so I'd say solid team effort." He begins gathering coins as well and moves anything larger than coins or gems to a pile to look at after.
"I think we tell the duarger the truth. We ran it off. They might be able to do something about plugging up its escape tunnel. They will at least make precautions rather than be caught unawares if we tell them it's dead."
Leon puts everything magical into one pile and nods to the handaxe and warhammer. "We should keep those separated, as they will be able to be turned in as our quest's objectives when we return to the guild hall." They wre the non-magical weapons I believe. "I'll identify the rest of these items once we have a chance." he explains, glancing to the pile of magical items.
Alyssa would remain where she was while the boys sorted through the dragon’s hoard. She’d continue to have Hue keep watch from the air in case anything changed. It felt like all was relatively safe for the time being, but she wasn’t entirely satisfied with the outcome. Though that didn’t stop her from enjoying Ramious’ enthusiasm and Bernards credit. ”I agree with telling them the truth.” The wizard agreed with Leon that those items found were worth returning to the guild hall. The extra was bonus fluff. She’d be happy to assist Leon with identifying the items, but he’s been managing fine on his own keeping his senses active for magic and identifying items thus far. The scholar would eventually start to pace. She’d take out her notebook and begin sketching and making notes while some things were still fresh in her memory while they took inventory, keeping an eye on this side of the cave.
"Do we wish to do that here or should we regroup somewhere not on the island of the dragon?" Leon asked with a frown. "I doubt if it will return this moment, it will take time to lick its wounds, but still..."

It is a dead end (seemingly) at least above the water. What is down there in the dark - it is impossible to see from the surface.
