The tree, despite being closer to the ledge, did not leave the flooded pat of the room yet and Leon had to step quite close, leaving just the line of sight for others. Leon's attack did cut the tendril off, though - Bernard dropped to the water (that turned to be just a few inches deep).
Ramious hurried in after Bernard and Leon, but with Alyssa on the way he lost some speed and did not make to Bernard yet, though the man was still alive and now free, so, it might not be all bad.
(The grappling for carrying Bernard out is not possible, but range attack is (or dashing to get closer)
Leon is on the ledge by the shallow pool of water. Bernard fell near the tree that is next to him now. Ramious 5ft away from the tree and Alyssa is behind the door yet.
Ramious will "dash" for his action so that he can get to Bernard, and grabs him, and then moves (a willing?) person with him at half speed....so hopefully we get about half way out?

This is totally up to you. I figure, if I could grab a corpse and move, then I should be able to grab a willing creature and move him...especially since he can even HELP me. In my brain, the order of difficulty of moving bodies would go like this:
EASIEST
Conscious and willing
Unconcious
Dead
Conscious and unwilling
HARDEST
But, I will TOTALLY be OK with ANYTHING you choose, as you are the DM. I'm trying to get Bernard out of here, if it takes 2 actions, so be it...(unless something interrupts / stops me)....

And I hate it when it's all on me! Rule lawyering required!
The argument here is whether or not grabbing someone is a free action. By RAW - solid "no", because a) the whole "grappling action" is based on the fact that you need an action to do just that - grad someone, b) Bernard is not an object, c) Ramious would need to make a complex movement: bend, grab, take quite a big body out of water and tentacles moving around, turn around and run back. This is more than simple "picking up axe from the ground". (Btw, he can not really "help" - it's not his turn)
I say it's a separate action (two actions to get him out) but another Firebolt is still possible for Ramious.
(Sounds quite fine! We certainly don't want any tom-foolery with PC's moving each other around during combat!! Having thought about it for 2 seconds from the DM perspective, it's just too ripe for abuse!)
No Firebolt, Ramious focus' his action on Dash regardless to try and pull Bernard back..

Alyssas's fireball worked just as good - from the door she could watch it leaving a scorch-mark on the tree-truck. Now Bernard -- still lying in the oily water -- could do something about the attacker.
That close to the monster Bernard could swear it's just the wood - yet, the sword get through, did not even scratch the trunk! Though, the reson could be more simple - the ranger lost a lot of blood, one more bite and he risked to loose his consciousness as well.
But at the moment the tree seemed to be particularly cross with Alyssa:
vs Alyssa: 23
Though others got their share of tendrils as well:
vs Leon: 27
vs Bernard: 22
vs Ramious: 10
(Do not think Leon can do anything here, but how about Alyssa?)
Rock-hard vines curled around three fighters, though the one that went after tiefling got bumped off by the one chasing the mage. The githyanki was pulled closer to the "mouth" - a gape filled with razor sharp short sticks. The creature tried to bite its offender:
vs Leon: Attack: 19 Damage: 23
The armor proved to be too hard to get through, but the creature seemed determined and tendril still kept the warrior bound. (escape from the tendril DC 15. Until the grapple ends, you are restrained and have disadvantage on Strength checks and Strength saving throws (in addition to Disadvantage on Dexterity saves from restrained conditions))
Alyssa would activate her arcane shield once again to protect herself from getting grasped. She'd catch sight of the other tendrils shooting out to grab the others. Now she was sure she recognized these tactics from their previous adventure in the cave ruins.
Bernard didn't seem interesting in being pulled out of the room as he continued to attack, and these vines were tying them all up....muttering under his breath about dumb plans he stops trying to pull at Bernard and instead directs his anger at the plant...with the axe! On his turn Ramious is going to swing the axe at the tree.
Attack: 28 Damage: 15 with booming energy 1 thunder damage.

Bernard, not feeling to great, takes a moment to draw on his magic. Taking breath, he casts a healing spell on himself in hopes of lasting another few seconds to continue the fight.

Dash takes action and so is grabbing/grappling (the willingness means uncontested). But this is RAW, of course. Want to change it?
