Halec whirls, hearing the mayor's voice. "Mayor, sir, unsurprisingly there is nothing on this bounty board about the shard locations. We'll need a better plan of action. I will take on the mission to recover the shards, and I would welcome any other skilled adventurers and mercenaries who wish to aid in this to join me. Firstly, do you know where the shards are located, or where we might find a mage or a priest who could use divination magics to locate them? Second, this will not be an easy task. I will need to know the reward, as will other adventurers, if we are to entice them to the cause, and we will need some upfront capital to fund the expedition."
"Well, they're not going to say 'I have a snowflake piece, come and get it' on their bounty, some people may not even know the Ruby snowflake is broken. I'd recommend looking closely at the charts, or ask them if they know any information about where the pieces could be."
"You just met us, Mister Mayor. I can vouch for my own credentials, and I can assure you this is important to me as a man of reasonable character that I do not want your entire city to fall into a ravine. There is still the practical matter of the time table, and the financing. On the time table, with only two weeks before your city falls, our best lead is to head out towards a random, unrelated bounty and hope someone has some information on a shard piece? That doesn't seem at all tactically wise, respectfully," Halec says. "And on the matter of financing - an expedition like this will need it. We will need to move quickly to close the ground and return the shard pieces in the time remaining. We will need provisions, horses, arms and armor. Does your city have a barracks we might access, an armory? Can you provide horses, or the funds to procure them? Lastly, to motivate adventurers, the reward. If I am recruiting others to this cause, what reward can I promise them?"
"I ask again, therefore, are there any powerful priests or mages who might use divination magics to aid us in locating the current wherabouts of the shard pieces in or around your city? What is the reward I can promise adventurers I recruit? And, will you provide us with funds, access to the city's armory, and horses, for our journey?"
Halec looks to Rosemary, Chazrael, and Ca'lley - whose name he still does not know - and adds, "I don't suppose any of you is a skilled diviner who can locate the fragments of this relic, by any chance?"
"With how big our kingdom is, searching for the pieces would take weeks at that pace. I'd recommend gathering information from these people to get this done efficiently. As time goes by, more bounties will be posted, and hopefully, you could find one that involves a snowflake piece."
"I agree, we need more focus in our search, mayor, that is why we need a mage or priest to identify the shards' exact locations. Hoping that someone with a kidnapped brother or a cat lost up a tree just happens to also know the location of a shard piece would be madness. We need surety. A diviner can provide that," Halec says, enunciating clearly and slowly to try to convey his point clearly to the mayor. "A powerful priest. A powerful mage. Does your city have any? Also, the financing, the reward. Where is the city's armory or barracks? Will you be providing horses for our travels? Please, Mr. Mayor, try to focus. Your city has two weeks until it falls. We can't just go about doing odd jobs and hope the shard pieces fall into our laps."
"Well I don't know any who live in Central City, they all live in remote areas, but I think Igna should know something about where some of them could be, she's a witch after all. Armory, its just at the entrance of the town, south of the plaza. Barracks are in the Rouge District. I have no horses, but there should be plenty of transportation services around here."
“Thank you,” Halec says, exasperated. He invites the tiefling sailor, the halfling archer and the yuan ti gentleman, whose name Halec does not yet know, to accompany him if they wish, and he heads first for the armory.
What kind of arms and armor do they have available there? Halec intends to obtain what they can of use from the armory first, and then to go to speak with Igna, the witch.
Halec grumbles on the way to the armory. "I am a simple man. I work with my hands, doing engineering, weapon smith work, making devices based on physical principles that anyone can understand and command. I know magic to be real, and the gods. I've had wounds closed instantly by clerics through the power of the divine, I've fought alongside mages who could create fire from nothing. I know there are fantastical things in the world, and even they have rules, and some semblance of logic. 'Do bounties and hope someone has seen the shard pieces.' Has everyone gone mad? Did the explosion of the Ruby Snowflake drive everyone in this city completely unhinged? I'm no mage myself, but that's exactly what divination is for - finding things!"
He will search through the armory for a suit of Half Plate armor, and invite anyone else who has elected to join the quest for the shards of the Ruby Snowflake to do the same. "Take what you think we will need for this mission, and then we can see what this local witch can tell us."
the armory is a shaded outdoor area with only a bag of tools, an anvil, and a blacksmith behind it. the blacksmith is a huge yuan-ti malison, his head matching that of a snake, with a muscular human body. His clothing is made up of a brown leather shirt with no sleeves, a grey pair of pants, and no shoes. He looks up at the sight of you, speaking in a calm, not-so deep voice "Welcome, what woh- ...what would you like me to make for you?"
Halec sighs. "You have no pre-made armors here in the armory? This isn't an armory then, is it? It's a blacksmith. A seed isn't a tree, and a blacksmith isn't an armory. I could bang us a suit or two of bloody full plate together if we weren't under an extremely important time limit with this business. Sir, do you know if they have any ready to wear armor in the barracks, if not here?"
"Very, very quickly? Fine, how quickly can you produce a suit of Half Plate armor? And whatever my comrades might need," Halec says gesturing to any others who came along with him.
"I can make one piece of armor in the time it takes to shop for some. Don't believe me? Watch." He takes out a large piece of iron and puts it on the anvil, followed by taking a glowing hammer out of his tool bag. When he bangs the hammer on part of the block, a large part of the iron chisel away to form part of a helmet's shape before your eyes. He repeats this until it forms an entire helmet, then picks it up to show off "viola"
Halec blinks. "Wow. Ok, then. Magic tools indeed. Very good, sir, I'll take one suit of Half Plate armor. That would take me a week to forge." He rubs his hands together, excited to see the display of magic and craftsmanship combined.
If Halec notices that Anthony has joined them at the blacksmith's, he opens his mouth as if about to say something, then just shakes his head, and says, "Of course. Of course you'd be here, Anthony or Theorin the Red or whatever you care to go by. It's that kind of day. I don't suppose you've suddenly have an epiphany and decided to give up your life of petty thievery and charlatanism to join a quest to save this valley from absolute destruction by any chance, at risk of life and limb, have you?" Halec sounds very sarcastic, but much less agitated then before. The sight of the magic blacksmithing tools has him in awe.
The blacksmith laughs when Anthony asks for a ring of invisibility"I only have magic tools, I can't make magic items with them." He then goes back to forging the items. "So, your cost for the armor is 600GP, the warhammer is 15GP
"We're not customers. We're the adventurers contracted by your city's mayor to save the bloody valley from falling into a ravine in two weeks time due to the shattered Ruby Snowflake," Halec says. "Bill the mayor's office, if the city survives."
Halec whirls, hearing the mayor's voice. "Mayor, sir, unsurprisingly there is nothing on this bounty board about the shard locations. We'll need a better plan of action. "I may have freshly made armor only, but I can make it very quickly, very useful, thanks to my magic tools."
"Very, very quickly? Fine, how quickly can you produce a suit of Half Plate armor? And whatever my comrades might need," Halec says gesturing to any others who came along with him.

Anthony stares thoughfully, I'd like a Ring of invisbility please... , and if I may, a warhammer!
