I will head down to the main room of the tavern, and meditate on the area of the bar, to better understand my surrounds. I spend the last minute or two with a prayer to Kelemvor.
Ourick will head downstairs and move tables away from the tavern entrance so that the enemy has no cover to run to. I will then turn a few tables on their side so that we can have cover to use.
Ourick, give me a persuasion or intimidation (your choice) check to see if the patrons at the tables or Alan try to stop you. Also give me a strength check for table turning.
Macawi will stand by the entrance to the side room [E2] so I can rush them when they come in. I ask Tarina for a description of dead eye and his men.
When Macawi gets in position, she pulls out her shield and prays to Tyr. She asks for forgiveness if this is not true justice, but I have to take down murderous cultists.
You Notice the same characters in the downstairs taproom: There is a shipwright with no eyebrows talking to a scar-faced halfling, an odd man writing in a small book in a corner, a jovial half-orc with a bellowing laugh, and a gregarious astrologer gambling with snooty apothecary wearing a colorful cape, as well as several additional commoners at the bar. The shipwright and the half-orc seem particularly drunk, as does Falten, one of Alan’s bar hands.
In terms of tactical information. You think the stairs to the second story are a good choke point. There are also several partially private booths along the side walls of the taproom that would make good hiding spots for an ambush.
((I will say you can share all this info with the other characters and they can act on it for there “one thing” but you have spent your “one thing” gathering this intel.))
Tarina tells Macawi that Dead-eye is a large man with a clouded right eye, black hair and a black beard. He will probably be dressed ostentatiously. His men will have snake tattoos on their right cheeks and have the look of sailors.
As Ourick starts to move tables, some of the patrons get belligerent. They don’t succumb to Ourick’s impressive demeanor and bullying. One yells out, “Alan! What kind of establishment are you running here? Look at this scurrilous dog!” he points to Ourick as he wrestles a table away from two drunks who were playing cards.
Alan turns and frowns. He orders, “Klank, stop ‘m.” With lightning speed, Klank slams his first down on the table holding it tight to the ground. Alan begins, “I don’t know who you think you…” he stops as he sees Tarina come down the stairs, daggers in hand. “Oh no, if you plan to carve people up in here, then THIS TIME I want a down payment for damages and loss of income. Give me 20 gold or I will set Klank loose on the lot of you!”
Tarina looks at Ourick bashfully and says, “Spot me some coin?”
Ourick releases the table that Klank roughly pounded and looks at Tarina. “This whole situation is your doing. Alan wants a down payment because of a fight you had in here before. There are people on the way here to kill you. I will not front you the money because frankly I don’t trust you. Besides, I don’t even have that much on me. It was your idea to fight them in here, not ours.”
Macawi sees things going south. She walks up to the bar and slams the 20 gold down. Loudly so the whole bar can hear."As a sign of good faith, I'll by a round for every one." [Not sure how much an ale is, can you let me know?
To everyone in the bar, " A man by the name of dead eye us coming to look for trouble with some lads. Anyone who can knock out any one with a serpent on their cheek, will eat and drink for free on me tonight."
To Alan," Hopefully that softens any loss to you."
Journey tries to figure out which of the upstairs rooms might be directly overhead of the front door. He would then ask to buy two bottles of their strongest alcohol possible and a few rags if possible and make his way into the room above the front door. Journey will toss the 20 coin to Alan and will say, “An extra 10 in here for Klank if he helps us do what he does best.”
Tarina turns to Ourick. She seems like the kind of person that rarely knows shame, but Ourick can see some on her face. She says, "I was fleeing for my life. I didn't have time to hit up my stash." She regains some of her bravado and declares to Ourick, "I will repay every last cent this night costs you and your group. I swear it!" Alan huffs and rolls his eyes when Tarina makes her oath.
As Macawi slams down the gold, Alan seems satisfied for the moment. He waves to Klank and the armor goes back to his usual spot in the corner by the door.
So far, the dozen or so onlookers have all been carefully observing the scene with various expressions of amusement, anger or fear. After the mention of a free round a weak cheer goes up. A few of the commoners at the bar that may be too far gone to understand what is happening cheer the loudest. ((the free round for everyone will cost you 2 gold))
Macawi’s promise of free food and drink all night causes Alan’s demeanor to change form disapproving to mildly appreciative. Although, he seems a little skeptical of the generosity. He says, “Well, between the twenty gold and maybe some slobs eating and drinking their fill, I should be alright.”
((Macawi, roll a persuasion check to see if anybody is encouraged to join in the fight.))
Journey is confident that the fancy guest suit (E9) is directly above the entrance to the taproom. He noticed on the way in that that room has two windows that are directly above the front door.
Journey finds Falten, who is slurring his words a bit. He says, “Ohhhh! somebody told you about…hic…my verrrrrry special moonshine. Yep, yep. Just don’t tell Alan I am selling my own stuff OK? OK.” Falten disappears into a backroom and comes back with two bottles. The bottles are poorly corked and you can smell what must be almost pure alcohol. Falten gets uncomfortably close to your face and whispers very loudly, “The secret is nutmeg.” Backing away he says, “Two gold please.”
Journey sees that Falten has left some cleaning rags out on tables.

Fil, give me an perception check to see what tactical information you see about the area down stairs.
